The new world would become Vinland, a pagan stronghold that slowly incorporated the skraeling nations, rather than America, built on the bodies of the conquored and plague-ridden Indians.

But the vikings weren't obstreperous fuckwits like most of the christian nations. If you could demonstrate that a weapon, tool or tactic worked, they would use it, no argument.
History is full of examples of one or two men upon whom the hinge of history revolved. Temujin, Napoleon, Ethelred, Rommel, Guderain, DaVinci.
I don't have to be a genius or a superb strategist, I just have to know things that no one else could possibly know at that time and place. things like how to build and employ primitive field artilery in a midevial setting. Germ theory. Navigation and Noth American ethnogeography. A rough order of events in the 50 years to come and what battles will be fought where and how they went wrong.

>But the vikings weren't obstreperous fuckwits like most of the christian nations
The vikings of that era were Christians. Hardrada was a Christian.
>prevent the horrors of the catholic excesses over the next 600 years. The new world would become Vinland, a pagan stronghold that slowly incorporated the skraeling nations
Again, The vikings of this era were by and large Christian. Hardrada was a Christian. The last Norse Pagan king (note that he'd be 'king' of a little chunk of Sweden) that might have even existed would die just 15 years later, and he likely didn't exist or lived 100 years earlier.
>If you could demonstrate that a weapon, tool or tactic worked, they would use it, no argument.
Except Cavalry, they never got any good at that.
>The Vatican, Byzantium and Mecca would all fall to the axe and trebuchet
I mean, again, the Vikings of this era were Christians. While there were definitely pagans in the countryside they were starting to fall out of majority, and all the rulers were Christian.
But aside from that, holy fucking shit it's hilarious to imagine your rag-tag band of vikings actually taking on Constantinople. You'd all die, you'd never breach the walls. Even if you built a trebuchet, you would not breech the walls. Even if you built a canon, you would not breech the walls. Never mind you wouldn't have the numbers to actually besiege Constantinople; even if Odin descended from Valhalla and gave you an army, you still would not breech the walls.
>sacking Mecca
I mean great idea but it would end horribly for you.
>and their sack would leave them defenseless against the invading mongols in the 13th century, ending the threat of islamic and catholic terror for future generations world-wide.

>>34809904
>Didn't Constantinople only fall because of the use of cannons?
Not really. It fell because the Byzantine Empire consisted solely of a tiny scrap of southern Greece and Constantinople, the rest was conquered by the Turks.
Cannons WERE the weapon that damaged the walls, but in 1066 they never would have even been set up. You can't siege a city with a cannon alone, you need manpower too. If you got literally every faction involved in the conquest of England together to band forces by magic, The English, the Norwegians, and even the Normans, you'd only have an army of 36,000 men (at an unrealistically high estimate). It took the Turks 50,000 and they still took some heavy losses against a ludicrously weaker Empire.
Also the prospects of any /k/ommando forging a cannon like the Ottomans did and not having it blow up in their face are...doubtful. The infrastructure didn't exist at all. When we say cannon we're talking a monstrosity the size of God's dick that lobs a 1200lb projectile and really fucks up whatever it hits up to a mile away. It was the third biggest cannon ever made. When your bore is measured not in inches but feet, shit is real.
Even this gun lasted only six shots before it fucked itself too much to be fired.
You'd need to be really sure your metallurgy was on point, which would be difficult since the scientific understanding of steel in this period, in that region, essentially consisted of 'it's magic, we burn fucking peat moss and get iron, can't explain that'. That's not even going into the amount of metal produced, Scandinavia in this time literally could not make a bombard cannon.
>Also, Vikings were used in as some sort of guard in the aftermath of the 1st crusade I think it was. One of the crusades at least
Talking about the Varangian Guard? Started off before the Crusades. They'd actually be fighting against that guy, pretty funny.
