Redpill me on the ergonomics of the AK platform.

How does it hold up to more modern weapons like the G36 or the Tavor, or even the AR15?
>>

left side charging handle would fix everything.
>>
>>34787566
no
t. Devil handed
>>
Its alright. Not inline recoil, but in spite of it being the current year, few weapons are apart from AR15s and SCARs.

I've handled couple AK-type rifles so far (RK-62, Norinco T-56), couple AR-15s and a sporter Vepr.

Personally, I have had no problems with the barebones, basic AK. In my opinion, they are surprisingly small and lightweight guns in reality, and easy to point.
Some people bitch about the right-side charging handle, but that's prolly just yanks and their weird fixation of having to operate everything with their support hand. I find it much easier and faster to do the AK reloads with my right hand.
>>
>>34787577
All modern Aks have inline recoil
>>
>>34787559
perfectly fine and viable. some people with longer arms may prefer a longer stock, as i do.
>>
>>34788707
No comments on the safety or magazine catch?
>>
They shoot just fine...that being said, if you are a normal size american, the stock will be too short for you. Buy a magpul zhukov stock or something to make it fit.
>>
>>34788747
That's inherently impossible if the barrel is above the highest point that the shoulder touches on the stock
>>
>>34787559

I love AKM, was a fine rifle. Used in the military, also trained with G36 KA4, M14 and M16 (the old version, probably A1 or A2).

M16 > AKM > M14 > G36

Slow reply here,
Neither has ever caused me problems.
I actually prefer the rock-in style mags and the paddle release.

Safety is just there, but you're either hot or safe. No need to constantly flip it around like some AR owners do.

It is probably the least ambidextrous rifle ever.
Charging handle is pokey to a lefty with it slung.
Safety is hard to use.
Standard AR is much more ambi.
I'd prefer a forward charging handle on any rifle.
AK's can peen themselves badly, the gas tubes can loosen and rattle, milled receiver ones are very heavy and stamped receivers (if not built right) can lead to broken trunnions etc...
Other than that, it's all great.
>>
>>34795735
I got leftie-scum friends, and none of them have complained about the AK's interface at any point.

It's a sad time to live when a sub-4KG rifle is considered "very heavy".

i have none of these issues. don't buy a shit rifle and there will be no quality problems
>>
>>34795766
Well, as a lefty, I have the c39v2 pistol with brace and it's noticeably heavier than an AR or some of the other rifles I've recently owned. It's a brick.

I don't go around whining about the ergos of the AK either but if someone asks, they're not good ergos for a lefty.
>>
>>34791710
Are you retarded or what? There's barely any difference.
>>
>>34787559
The ergonomics are ok for a combat rifle, but they were mostly designed for ease of production rather than ease of use. An AR is simply quicker to manipulate.

My slr106 is noticeably heavier while also having more felt recoil thanks to the larger amount of mass moving back and forth. I still like the 106, but given the choice of which one to carry I'd take the AR every time

that's a big difference friendo

Pro Tip: It doesnt.

it doesn't melt

it's lighter

it doesn't explode

Daily reminder that the AK originally had a right side charging handle and it was found problematic during trials.

>The charging handle is integral with the bolt carrier, it has been moved to the right side, so the receiver cover, along with a step-cut on the right side of the ejection port (cartridges) was also a slot for the charging handle". This decision was carried out at the request of marksmen-soldiers NIPSVO. who noted that the left-hand drive lever to reload an AK-46 number 2 prevents firing on the move on the fly without stopping, touching his stomach. 15 in the same position for firing and reloading weapons uncomfortable.

The G36 has objectively the best ergonomics. After you fire a few rounds through it, the polymer has a wonderful pliability, insertion into the anus is still not quite smooth, but still pleasent. After slightly cooling off, it takes the shape of the anus and is a perfect form of pleasure, far superior to comparable weapon platforms or the dragon dildo system.
>>
>>34787559
honestly the ergonomics of the AK aren't awful. you'll get slightly longer reloads.

the biggest problem with the AK in my mind are the iron sights. it's difficult to find the front sight post when compared to an AR

The ergonomics are shit, m8. The buttstock is ridiculously short and you need to take your hand off the grip to swipe the safety on/off.

G36 is weak and spindly

SL8 is thick and won't break on you if you club someone
>>
>>34800037
That's at least partially true. Standard Russian AK pattern rifles before the 200/12 series you either have to partially break your grip to actuate the lever with your middle finger or completely break your grip to use your thumb to actuate the lever. Some AK's like the Polish Tantal or the Israeli Galil have thumb-actuated safeties on the left hand side of the pistol grip in addition to the traditional AK safety lever. Also, apparently the Warsaw-length buttstocks are that way because they're compensating for flak vests/body armor-- you can get AK's with NATO length buttstocks.

I think my biggest complaint is the small as fuck pistol grips, honestly, but then again you can always get aftermarket grips. And then right after that I'd say the handguards heating up super quick is not so great.
