I'm no fudd. The man asked for an inexpensive, reliable, cheap to feed bear gun. Nothing beats a sawed-off 12 ga for that purpose while camping. Anything better, is going to either be out of his price range or have too refined a palate.

The study you're referencing too didn't take in account of caliber, weapon used or skill of the shooter. Bear spray is good but its not the endall beall, if you're never been maced before and you fuckup on a windy day...You're dead.

Pump shotgun with bear banger or a blank in the chamber followed by slugs is still the best option.

There are several studies that i have looked at that give bear spray survival rates anywhere from 80 to 97%. The only people that prefer guns over spray are people on gun forums. Who use wishful thinking as their reasoning. They typically can't even offer anecdotal evidence. They just say "A gun will work better because....its a gun and I have wrapped my ego up in my guns therefore want it to be better so it is." Don't get me wrong I'm not some anti gunner. I'm a shooter, have been since 10 years old. I also know a hammer is a great tool but everything is not a nail.

If you type in bear spray vs firearms in your favorite search engine. You will find that even the most optomisic uses of firearms still trails behind bear spray.
