A quick glance at the reloading manual shows that subsonic .300 AAC 208 A-max, a very soft bullet, uses roughly half the powder of 62gr 5.56, so maybe that would be easier on your ear drums?

.300 BLK gets a full powder burn in 9-inches of barrel, the difference between a 9-inch barrel and a 16-inch barrel is about 200 FPS (2300 FPS to 2100 FPS) with 110 grain bullets.

.300 BLK out of a 9-inch barrel has like 95% of the energy that a 5.56 round has out of a 16-inch barrel.
