I'll kick things off with something retarded.

Why shouldnt I put a flash hider on my GLAWK™

Fuck yes I remembered it.

Has anyone who ordered an HMG StG gotten an email asking about which color stock you want?

They wrote somewhere (maybe their website, maybe facebook) that they would send out emails about a month before your gun was to ship, asking if you wanted light or dark stained wood.

Just curious if they've gotten that close to shipping any yet.

A guy at my shooting club recently bought a HK SFP9 and it was getting constant failure to feed issues and failure to eject.

Also the slide would not stay open after emptying the mag
>>
>>34776126

change magazines, change ammo, and clean and oil the gun. more often than not, malfunctions are either caused by defective, damaged, or out of spec magazines, or poor quality or otherwise defective ammunition.

as for the not locking back, thats either a magazine issue, or a grip or finger position issue. not having handled a VP9/SFP9, i can't comment on the location of the slide release and the potential of fingering it during firing, but it's always a possibility.

Is it normal that on a 1911, the ejection port is actually too short to fit a .45 round through sideways?

>loaded gun
>want to clear it
>drop mag
>rack slide
>gun spergs out
It ejects fine when you shoot it, the empty casing flies out no problemo, but the extra length of the bullet gets stuck on the forward end of the ejection port when I try to manually rack the slide. Worst case, the round gets stuck diagonally with the slide arkwardly held back by the stuck round.

Is that normal or do I just have a 1911 with a rather short ejection port?
Whats the ideal way to resolve that situation? I did resort to dropping the mag (if not done be4), slowly letting the slide go forward and pushing the round down the magwell. It kinda works, but I assume just pooping the round out like that looks somewhat disgraceful... if there's a better method, I'd like to know.

Pic is related.

>CS/warranty
naw I'm pretty sure its intentional, I was just wondering if its common. Thanks for your concern though, I know that gun+dremel=bad. Got a gun very cheap because a previous owner was a dipshit with his dremel. Had the barrel replaced, good as new. I could resell it and literally make dosh, but I kinda like it so I'm keeping her.

>>34776766
Our analytics guy at work takes whitetail with his every year. Much like 7.62x39, 200y and in and you're fine.
>>
>>34777024
Light primer strike, check your rounds after the first trigger pull it should have a shallow indent.

Easiest fix would be to use different ammo.
Other option is replacing the firing pin spring.
>>
>>34777024
Did you see an indention in the primer? If so, it might be a problem with your striker. You can do the old redneck ballpoint pen test where drop a flat plastic base ball point pen down your barrel and see if the striker launches it a good ways up.

If there wasn't a mark on the primer, you might have had an out-of-battery malfunction.
>>
>>34777011
Does that have to do with the fact that I'm throwing extra weight on the end of a tilting barrel design?

Hmmm, the flash hider weight may be more of a factor than I thought.

Glock 17 barrel weight 4 oz.
Most flash hiders weigh around 2.

That's a 50% increase in weight. Perhaps this endeavor isnt worth it.

Thanks either way.

How is pocket carry? Thinking about a J frame and a pocket holster

I used to pocket carry a J-frame, one day I went on a long walk and ended up with a revolver-shaped bruise on my thigh. Shortly after I got a Keltec P3at.
>>
>>34777452
Interesting. Were your pockets baggy?

I'm interested in pocket carry because my workplace requires tucked shirts so OWB isn't really doable and IWB would be hard to access.
>>
>>34777491

Fairly so, it takes pretty deep pockets to fit a J-frame well. A lot of khakis and slacks aren't quite deep enough and the butt of the grip will end up poking out.
>>
>>34777309
>run and cry to the feds at the sound of too many pews
Because if they don't they can be charged as accessories to the felony or something. Particularly the range owner.
So the hypothetical owner would be much better off shooting on private land.

I was wondering what exactly is the disconnector pressing up against and what is actually going on with that little mod? When fired does the disconnector move or perform any extra action? Or is it just pressing on that little thing.

Is that the connector or the trigger bar its pressing up against?

I'm guessing I'll just replace the RGB with a new normal front sight gas block. how the fug do i make sure the front sight gas block doesnt end up canted too???
>>
>>34780091
You'd better hope that it is just the gas block that is canted. If the gas port is off center, you're sol.

Is the block pinned or is it a clamp-on?
>>
Painting a glass-reinforced nylon stock.

I scuffed it with 220 before cleaning and painting. OOPS.

Now, even after a couple of coats, it is a hairy bastard.

Anything to do other than spray it with a thick coat of primer/filler to bury the hairs?
>>
>>34780150
i think its clamped on, its a dpms oracle and theres some hex screws on the bottom of the gas block.

I think i might just buy a 20 inch barrel and install a front sight gasblock anyways. How does one make sure the front sight is straight? will the gas port be perfectly straight?
>>
>>34780200
You may be in luck. The gas block will have a port in it that needs to exactly line up with the gas port in the barrel.

A quick look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-iPHq3uE4w (if this is the same as yours) shows that the barrel has elongated dimples for the setscrews to go into.

You may be in luck and it was just slapped together cockeyed.

Have you shot it yet? Does it actually function?

You're going to have to loosen the gas block set screws and see if the ports lines= up or if you can straighten the block and still have it lined up with the port in the barrel.
>>
>>34780091
You can't just replace a set-screw style gas block with a "normal" front sight gas block. The normal ones are retained with a tapered pin. The hole for that pin goes partially through the barrel.

You need a proper jig to drill for the pin.

But you have to make sure your gas port isn't canted first.

I posted this in another thread but I figured I'd just drop it here in case

So when I try to eject a spent shell out of my ithaca it is difficult to pump, and requires a good bit of force to cycle. This doesn't happen with a dummy round or a live round, they both eject perfectly, and it cycles with no issue when there's nothing in it which is why I didn't notice when I bought it.

Would you know of any quick fixes for it? I have a few spent shells laying around I can test with

I've been fucking around with it for a few minutes, there's nothing wrong with the feed or cycle, it's just like the tip of the plastic expands too much and causes the extractor to need more force than it should to do it's job

break up your outline, especially of your head and shoulders
use netting so you can incorporate local flora
realize it will be hot, and incorporate ventilation
anticipate the types of movements and stances you plan to use. reinforce drag areas, and don't overly camouflage areas that will be obscured by terrain
good camouflage that's moving is more noticeable than poor camouflage that's still
>>
>>34782633
Good tips, thanks for input. I'll be sure to remember this.

Is there any legal bad juju with using NFA items in home or self defense scenarios?
A suppressed SBR sounds pretty choice for stopping Jamal and friends, but I'm worried there's some kind of legal nonsense surrounding it.
>>
>>34782943
Remember that if your case goes to court, you have to convince 9 normies what you did was not murder, while some other chuckle fuck will appeal to emotion for hours with the sole intention of convincing said 9 normies that you are a baby killer. It's not any more illegal than shooting an intruder with any other gun, just have a really good lawyer on standby.
>>
>>34782943
On top of what other anon said there is a very good chance that the police will take any weapon used for dindu removal for at least as long as it takes your case to get through the court system.

Fuck that, just use a mossberg shockwave.

if you can afford a suppressor and the tax stamp you can afford a lawyer. he will answer questions like this and tell a jury why it's legal.
>>
>>34780091
You really need a gunsmith to install a front sight base, it is not a DIY job.

The better alternative for you is to install a low profile gas block and then an extended free float rail to cover it up.
>>
>>34783078
>lawyer tells jury why an evil salt rifle, designed to be better able to conceal, with a suppressor for assaniations is legal
>prosecution explains that it is a tool used by professional killers and spree shooters

I have absolute confidence in our legal system. Who was that guy that was convicted and spent two years in jail after using a 10memeometer in self defense and was later acquitted?
>>
>>34783078
shockwave is just as practice as a suppressed SBR for home defense.
>>
>>34783091
Historically good advice is to find out what the local police use and then use the same.

This doesn't work however if you are in a city and you get a dindu jury that thinks police are baby killers.

from what little i know about .308 ARs, not all of the parts are as plug-and-play as the 5.56 type. If you build, make sure the parts will fit. if you buy, make sure the existing parts will fit with anything you might want to use down the road. >>
>>34785157
There are 50 billion variants, so honestly it's going to just depend on what they have. Ask for the nice one I guess.
>>
>>34785167
The range has a Ruger SR1911CMD9mm, Sig Sauer 1911 XO .45acp, Remington 1911R1 .45 auto, and a S&W SW1911 e series .45acp.

Do any of these stand out for being better/worse for learning to shoot?
>>
As a general rule of thumb stay away from Remington, they started going downhill as of 2008 if not sooner as they were bought out by foreign corporate interests who value profit margins over quality. The 1911 was also designed as a .45 gun, so I'd give the ruger a pass as well as its in 9mm.

S&W are a-ok, and sigs are great. Either one would be a good start.

sure. it won't hurt anything and it will help prevent rust.
but a super thin coat is all you need. basically wipe it on. wait a minute. wipe it off with a dry rag. you won't remove all the oil, but you will remove the excess.
have fun with your new gun, and be safe.

If I buy a gun and something's fucked off to the point that I have to send it back to the manufacturer, when they send it back to me does it have to go to an FFL or can they send it directly to my door?

I've shipped a gun to a gunsmith directly from me to him and it was 100% legal. To me it seems that you sending a gun to the manufacturer for repair would be no different because it's not being transferred (sold, from you to them, and so on) it's just being sent in for repair work.
To be 10000% sure you could always ask the manufacturer when you're dealing with this hypothetical problem.

FFL dealer here, the ATF says if I only have it one day I don't have to send it back through an FFL. If I keep it for more than one day, it's gotta to through an FFL dealer. Most gunsmiths are FFL dealers and just do the paperwork as part if the service, but if the gun crises state lines you're going to need to get it transferred. Talk to your gunsmith and see what he is willing to do.

If that bullet is accelerating forward, Newton #3 would indicate something has to be accelerating backwards. How much you feel it in your arms depends entirely on how much the recoil spring is under compression.

they ship it back to you. The only time the FFL stuff applies is when it is a transfer. Since you are sending a gun in that you already own for warranty/repair, it is not changing ownership and therefore is not a transfer.

Over the years I've shipped various guns in for warranty work, and they always shipped directly back to me. The only caveat is that it must be signature required, both ways. I recommend USPS for rifles and suppressors, UPS for pistols and SBR's.

this. Break barrels are more durable for sure, where as the red rider bb gun has been bastardized so much that they barely last a month after christmas. Break barrels are also not too kid friendly and require adult strength to operate. Good thing if you don't want your kids fucking with it when they're still too you and you're not around. Try to find one with a lighter trigger pull so your kids can actually learn fundamentals rather than trying their damndest to just pull the trigger. (idk how old we're talkin here)

if you are using a more boxy suppressor like osprey then maybe an HKusp or other similarly big boxy like the FN45x

A scoped revolver? Not very, handgun hunting is a thing that people do here, hell that was one of the primary design goals for the Desert Eagle. Ruger Super Redhawks come from the factory pre tapped and with a pair of scope rings included in the purchase price.

The SAF its a SMG based on the SIG-540, similar to what the MP-5 is to the G-3 family, the SAF is to the SIGs.

One of the importers has been promising expensive metal mags for the last 3 years. And to top it off they were stuck with 5 Rd mags...

>>
>>34796126
Can you see if it extracts, then gets pushed back in, or does it just stay in the chamber?
If it stays in the chamber, your extractor is possibly broken, or worn out of spec.
If it extracts, but then gets pushed back in, your extractor is OK but your ejector is broken.

Either way, should be repairable.

they're usually precision machined parts that have to withstand a lot of abuse and still be concentric with the bore. if you have skill but no money you can always build one after playing mother-may-i with the ATF

I have the 9mm, zero issues. Loads of fun, cheap to shoot, and theoretically you can use it to hunt small deer at close range (at least in my state, you can use the .45. Not sure I'd want to though).

if you attach anything that reduces the sound of your gun firing without approved suppressor paperwork, you get to spend 10 years in club fed. not a lawyer, but i'm pretty sure you can serialize the tube and switch out baffles to play around with how effective it is
tldr lurk NFA general
don't put anything on your gun that quiets it without completed, approved paperwork

BLM lands are usually standalone out here, outside of national parks/forests/whatever

It's basically just extra state-owned land that isn't special enough for other designation, and sometimes has private ranches so watch out for those

General rule of thumb for shooting in BLM land is keep a couple hundred yards away (at least) from roads or any building, clean up your brass/shells, and have a decent fuckin backstop please

Hi /k/ you know when you get those shits where a fart comes out right afterwards and it sort of fires it out your ass? In a country/state/county/city/etc where air guns are regulated or banned would having such a shit get you in trouble, because you have basicly created an air gun? (firing an offensive projectile, aka the shit, out of a barrel, aka your asshole, using the action of compressed air or other gas, aka the fart).
Could this be used in a self defence situation in a place where you can't carry weapons? (you would be scared so it would be easy to shit) What diets would be good for fostering the best shit projectiles? (hard but smelling really bad) and at the same time encouraging farts to shoot them out your ass as and when needed?

It's a Colman R1. I'm not quite looking to get rid of it, but trading up always interests me. I have an AAC 7.62SD on the way, and I figured a SCAR would be a better host. I know the FAL will go well with it, but a SCAR is quite a bit shorter, lighter, and modular. It also has that neat suppressor setting on the gas block.

Can I legally buy an AR-15 lower and parts kit through private sale at the age of 18? In Virginia btw.
>>
>>34797539
In Virginia, you have to be 18 for """""assault""""" rifle purchases. No background check required for private sales. You're good to go.
>>
>>34796760
I had one, but I attribute it to not being seated properly.

The mags sit flush with the bottom of the pistol grip, a lot of people don't slap them in all the way. I think that's a good part of it. The mags aren't super great. They werk, but the problem is they rust pretty easily. I have to WD40 them and wipe them off about once a year.
>>
>>34796728
It was my first personal-rifle buy. It really, really isn't a bad decision. If you plan on hunting, a Savage Axis/scope combo isn't a bad alternative. If you just want a semi-auto plinker that can do out to 100 yards okay, Hipoints honestly are one of the best intro-to-gun deals out there. The alternative is waiting for a PSA sale on ARs or something and getting a flat-top AR for about $350-400.
>>

There are STANAG conversion kits around, at least for the 5.56 one.

AR lowers are treated as pistols. Seeing as you could hypothetically convert it into a pistol.

Preserving freedom in name only, most in the gun community, especially older fudds at the range would happily turn in any guns that would violate any laws, and be glad to turn on their own quickly. They arent as pro gun as you would like to think, and simply enjoy the sport or hunting
