What is the best gun for campers/ hikers living in the Midwest?

If you need it for defense then a concealable handgun if you're on public land. If you're way out in the boonies or on private land and don't mind the weight then probably a pump shotgun or any quality semi automatic rifle in 7.62 or 5.56.
My personal choice would probably be a .357 mag revolver with a 4"+ barrel or a g20.
Concealable, pretty lightweight, flat shooting, and enough energy to take a deer or put down a black bear if necessary.
If you're simply looking for something to hunt with then a .22 or 12g would be best depending on what game youre likely to run into.
