It's definitely propaganda, but the subtext is fascinating. A former navy seal (who speaks with a British accent ffs) and a handful of mercenaries absolutely bodies the PLA and its most elite soldiers. China's fear of the white man is on full display as they're portrayed as giant unstoppable juggernauts slaying scores of PLA. The second half of the movie redeems itself as the gunplay, especially featuring Chinese guns you don't typically see elsewhere, is fun to watch. But you definitely can't shake the feeling that China is trying to act like a tough world power but they're actually afraid of the white man.


That being said, ingotta see the sequel. The trailer makes it look like they're poured more money into it and the cast doesn't look bad.
