I snipe rats around the neighbourhood the odd night. Use a low powered (6fpe) PCP, suppressed, with a cheap cobbled together night vision scope thing. Out as far as 20 metres or so it's very effective, always one shot one kill. Only able to shoot late at night, as any gun discharge in the city is in violation of a bylaw, but no one is around between midnight and two so I spend the odd late evening popping rats between the eyes. My rig is so quiet that the impacts with .177" wadcutters is about twice as loud, and even that isn't noticed by sleeping folk.

Each one has about as much meat as a chicken leg and it's tough so you have to slow cook it.

I like to blast 3 or 4, soak then in milk for a couple hours, dredge them in Panko and Penzey's Barvarian spice blend, and bake them low and kinda slow (200 degrees, 2 hours, covered for the first 90 minutes).

I've never seen a rat running around in daylight around here. We have dozens of other annoying and destructive rodents, but they're not classified as varmints (thanks, PETA), so you best not get caught shooting them.

God knows... I own all types of firearms, and literally just today bought myself a pellet gun for small critters like rats and squirrels. Then this thread pops up. Small world.

I'm surprised pellet guns aren't more popular while we're at it. Quieter than an unsupressed .22, and even quieter with a suppressor (legal in pellet guns btw... i think)

If your american rimfire is .22lr buy some CCI quiet and go at it. It's about as loud/quiet as a multi pump pellet gun so unless you have super easily triggered neighbors that will call cops the moment they see someone carrying a gun shaped object you'll be fine. Or be 100% legal and just buy a pellet gun.

My current ratting setup. I put it in my trenchcoat and when I'm at the warehouse or walking home at night and I see a rat I look around to make sure no one's looking and pop it. It's agreat way to relieve stress after work. Ratting within city limits is illegal but it's not like the rats are going to call the police. I call it ghetto trophy hunting. I popped a 12 incher at a bridge with some people standing across the hallway and they didn't even know lol.

No video. Unfortunately my setup is a Carson NV200 monocular behind a 3x scope. The infrared emitter is pulled out and mounted separarely in a tube to clear the scope. No video possible really. But the setup looks like this. A competition pistol adapted into an ugly carbine with a plastic grip for the wire stock, as I don't want to damage my maple grip.
