Now that the dust has settled, heh, what are your thoughts on su-30? Specifically mki variant
>>
>>34772165
Probably the finest affordable combat aircraft in the world right now.

>Probably the finest affordable combat aircraft in the world right now.
That would be the Gripen desu
>>
>>34772165
Meme aside, what is the difference between Su-30SM and Su-35? They both seems to be top of the line flankers to me
>>
>>34773022
Su-30SM is 2 seater and Su-35 is single seat. Then the engine, radar, cockpit, IRST is different. Also Su-30 have canard.

Su-30MKM is my planefu
>>
>>34772165
A solid 4th gen aircraft. Decent radar, good speed and manouverability on the plus side. Most complaints are about the poor reliability of the engines.
>>
>>34773072
Is it unreliable? The only complaint I've heard is from Indian Air Force. Other operator seems fine with it
>>
>>34773022

In terms of role

Su-30 = strike fighter (F15E)
Su-35 = pure fighter (F15C)

But >>34773036 does a good job of covering the basic differences

The official average lifetime of the AL-31 is around 3000 hours, MTBO around 1000 hours which is not even a tenth of the lifetime of comparable western jet engines.
Since India has (or at least had) to send the engines to Russia for maintenance I can see why they complain a lot.

From the airbase staff our MKM is not well liked compared to the F-18D. The thing needs US$100million air conditioned bunker all year round while Hornets are more reliable.
>>
>>34773104
I have seen Sukhois standing around outside in the Russia winter.
Why do they keep them in air conditioned bunkers? Humidity?
>>
>>34773097
I don't think its purpose is to be a strike fighter, but just a 2 seater Su-27. Su-34 is the one that similar to F-15E
>>
>>34773104
Why tho? Russia still have many planes that don't use hangar in 2nd tier airbase and they still fine
>>
>>34773115
Could be an opsec thing. There's nothing on the Malaysian F-18Ds worth stealing in comparison
>>
>>34773104
Malay?
>>
>>34773115
>Humidity
That would make sense, winter ain't such a big deal, it's cold and dry, so long as you keep the snow out of the guts of the thing. Much worse to have it hot and humid
>>
I only like planes that are still in development and cant fly in the rain

>>34773115
Yes, Gong Kedak is the Malaysian AF base facing the south china sea where its 90%+ humidity all year.
Butterworth base which houses the Hornets doesn't need the same.
>>
>>34773146
Damn that humidity. The maintenance crew of planes and vehicle need to work overtime
>>
>>34773103
How hard would it be to re-engine them with something like a GE F110?
>>
>>34773082
Malaysia has shelved our Mig-29 replacement program due to bad economy, so the Mig and Sukhoi will soldier on.
>>
>>34773146
Google tells me that Gong Kedak (Kuala Besut, closest city) averages in excess of 80% humidity for every month of the god damn year. Yikes.

But Butterworth isn't much better, averaging between 70% and 80%.
>>
>>34773171
The engine diameter is different so impossible
>>
>>34773182
The US Marines Super Hornets frequently do joint training at Gong Kedak. F-35s and Typhoons also are frequent visitors.
>>
>>34773171
Very difficult. The F110 is narrower but longer and heavier, you'd need to completely re-build the aircraft.
>>
>>34773146
In comparison, Russia stores their planes outside to keep them fresh.

I recall some visiting Marines also complaining about humidity and we already lost 3 training jets in that area, one went down straight into the south china sea.
Opsec might also be the reason, they released a video of the MKM dropping a paveway 2 last year but them removed it for unknown reason.
Saw 2 of them at Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition this year but my camera is potato but this site has better pictures.

>>34773197
I don't think F-35 ever came here, most international visitors go to Butterworth which is the home base for Five Powers Agreement.
>>
Potentially not as maneuverable as the MKI, but a lot more versatile and with more and better weapon loadouts: The Shenyang J-16.

>>34773204
Is that Su-27S, SM, SM2, or SM3? I can never tell the difference
>>
>>34773222
And JD-16 EW version. The "Sino-Growler".
>>
>>34772165
It would've been a great plane for the last decade, but fot now it's just a big target.

Su-27 variants can be really dangerous but only if they had good technology, the Su-35 per example is really great for these times
>>
>>34773223
IMHO a Su-27S.

Plane has an RCS of a barn door, but somehow they want to use stealth features on a cluster-bomb dispenser?
Sure its not a cruise missile with sub-munitions ala JASSM?
>>
>>34773271
Maybe it is also inteded to be used by the J-20?

Algeria has like 56 Su-30MKA, and they deploy them in the Sahara desert (I think).

But information about their army is really shallow, they don't say much tough they have a high rate of aircraft accidents
>>
>>34773173
The MiGs have been mothballed for a while now, pretty much any Slav weapons under consideration were dropped instantly after MH17.
Thailand is reactivating their F-5 so we might do the same to make up for the numbers.
>>
>>34773287
>they have a high rate of aircraft accidents
Well. they ARE arabs after all
>>
>>34773291
Its a shame. Buying more Su-30MKM should be cheaper

Well desu per example saudi arabia has more than 72 F-15s since 1982, an only lost 7 till now, compared to the US loses it's a good number, or per example Morocco that got F-1 mirage since 1975 and they're still flying them in an excellent condition. I'm afraid to say it's the Russian monkey models

Can't be helped, besides Slav also have delivery issues and worse customer support than western ones, less user friendly plus there are good reasons why they want western planes for MiG replacement which is preferably the Super Hornet and when Lahad Datu happened the Hornet became our first plane to fire in anger after 3 decades.
On the plus side the armed little bird program signed in previous LIMA is still ongoing, that should take care of current patrol needs.

ah, yeah that makes much more sense.
though, the mental image of a J-16 doing low-level cluster runs dos make my peepee feel strange

Yeah, it is just showing that the Chinese want to have the J-16 as kinda their version of the Strike Eagle, integrating literally everything onto that airframe, be it glide-bombs, cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles or K-100 styled super long range AWACS killer missiles.

I bet they also would mount ASAT missiles on them one day.

The PLAAF envisions the J-16 as the Flanker to end all Flankers, even if it is not as advanced as the Su-35SK that they also operate in terms of propulsion7.
>>
>>34773394
Why can't J-11 and J-12s be brought to this standard? 50cent dog
>>
>>34774257
2 seat is better than one seat for strike missions.

No IFR for the J-11.

J-16 has wings and structure based on the Su-30, hence made with payload in mind.
>>
>>34772871
you mean the F-16?
