This is as vague as if yo asked a civilian how much free time do you have?
All depends man, in general though yes you will have free time to learn a language, especially when stateside. While deployed its usually tougher.

I heard the average enlisted is easily offended by literally everything, unless they are combat arms.

All MOSes allow you to do split option (doing training over the summer), the MOS you do AIT for depends on what your state has. What MOS are you looking into?

Air Force requires the highest ASVAB score, doesn't pad ASVAB scores like the other services do, and has the best MWR and lowest physical requirements. Marines have the highest physical requirements but don't expect you to be smart.

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to do what I like, but I honestly have no idea what I would like. I would at least like a base that's not in the Confederate South, or midwest. Korea and Germany seem nice.

I like intelligence, logistics, aircrew, investigative, computing and IT, and any AFSC that works with explosives, but is not a missileer. Would not like maintenance, security, or administrative; too stupid for medical. Thought about the 3D AFSC, but from what I understand that's being phased out to contractors.

Wouldn't mind something that has job value after I discharge, but I'm looking to help out the country somehow and get an, at the very least, satisfactory experience and to see more than just my rural state in my lifetime.

>>
>>34781341
Intentionally damaging navy property (by breaking doors) explains it. Furthermore, you're lucky you were in A school in the navy. If you were rooming with salty, ptsd-seasoned operators, you might not have made it past the first door. My first thought would be you were an active shooter. You could've been shot by a nosy MP.

totally fair punishment, IMO.
>>
>>34783288
I'm that guy. I really think I'm going to enlist and just use the GI bill on grad school. I can't imagine staring at a commissioning board while they're all looking at my transcripts and judging me.

I flunked out my first year at a liberal arts college (academic suspension- they told me to take a semester off to get my grades up at another school or work for a year- LOL fuck that). I transferred to a CC and did okay but still failed quite a few classes and got put on probation. Pulled grades up there, and transferred to a better state school, there I got put on probation once more, but then i stopped drinking and school got easier, and i buckled down and finished.

it only took me 5 years start to finish, but its a horrible embarrassing and convoluted story that earmarks me as an extremely risky bet for a commission. what ever you do, don't make the same mistakes I did. Taik yer skewlin sereeuslee.

My max weight is 184. Before, I was around 186. Didn't eat breakfast, cleared MEPS. I didn't start seriously working out until I got my ship date. My fault, but I was in waiver hell for a very, very long time.

So I've been working out a lot, and my weight actually shot up to 190 and has been stagnant there for a few days. I ship out in about 40 days.

I've been trying my best to maintain a calorie deficit, and am drinking a ton of water, which I guess I would attribute the gain to.

Any tips to make it come off reliably so I can be below my target weight by the time I ship? Really don't want to go through the hell of being over.

If youre doing it right, you can eat 700 calories a day on keto and not feel hungry whatsoever. Intermittent fasting helps too. Skip breakfast and work out first thing in the morning. If you have enough fat in your diet, you will have to remind yourself to eat, not be ruled by hunger.

How bad of an idea is it to join the Marines if I'm a lazy ass, a huge pussy, and have a low pain threshold?

I'm looking into being an Armorer, going Intel, or doing logistics, nothing remotely grunt-like. Generally I want to be in a position with a lot of organizational or informational responsibilities, rather than strictly physical ones.

I've considered Admin and other turbopog positions, but they're simply not as appealing.

Marines are much much more likely to be stationed driving distance from where I live (SW) and receive more infantry training than POGs in other branches, regardless of MOS.

Marines = Number 1 badasses

Nigger listen, im not you. So i dont know what youll find cool/fun/interesting. Theres a huge number of jobs that translate into civilian life. I cant chose for you. Again go look at the MOS list and chose maybe 5 that look good then come back.

I think even civvies know the Air Force is military-lite.

Alright boys, going to be putting in an app for the Canadian forces.

>Infantry
>Vehicle Tech
>Armoured Soldier

Those are the 3 trades. Only one i am not that sure of is armoured soldier, seems like it could be cool but shit at the same time. I can imagine lots of hearing loss and if you ever actually fight anybody a horrible death. Also don't know how good it would be being a mechanic in the army etc.

I know it is not the Americam mil, but should be quite similar. Thanks in advance.

How valuable would a free month or a month and a half before AF BMT be? Wondering if it's worth the 1900 I'd miss from work. Bear in mind I may have a 5 month long tech school as well.
>>
>>34797813
if youre out of shape, yes a month of daily exercise ( weekend rests ) is very helpful.

Basic training isn't a straight up cake walk but it definitely isn't some grand accomplishment. People go to basic not able to do 1 push-up or sit-up and come out fine.

but to make it easier for yourself you should work out prior to leaving because that's all they will make you do. Most military jobs have a good amount of free time where you have nothing to do all day except workout or play games or be bored out of your mind.

Also I have a hard on for the idea of serving in combat.

I don't know the MOS codes but I know each branch has some shit in the PR field that's like combat sketcher or whatever the fuck.
You might wanna look into it, same field as photojournalist/combat camera/videographer etc.

Doing a uni right now but plan on doing an ADF gap year as a rifleman, and maybe serving a 4 year contract after that.

The only reason im doing a uni course is backup plan. I have always wanted to serve as a professional soldier with good training and job prospects, but whereas the US has green berets and rangers which are difficult but not impossible to get into, the australian df has commandos, which are notoriously difficult for even peak athletes to get into.

My basic plan so far has been to do a rifle gap year, maybe serve, request a work visa into america on the grounds of joining their military, and go for something like green berets or rangers that has post military (but still k) prospects

Am i a fucking idiot?

What are the Pros and Cons of the Navy and Marine Corps?
>>
>>34802000
Associates. E-4 is w/ Bachelors.

>>34801772
How hard is it to make rank if you're squared away mentally and physically?
>>
>>34802538
>Navy
Pros: Much, much larger variety of jobs. Most of them are less demanding as well. Travel more.
Cons: Boats suck, other branches shit on you

>Marines
Pros: lol
Cons: 150% more work than the other branches for the same job, every is fucking retarded, only branch with motards, less jobs with useful skills for enlisted
>>
>>34802000
>>34802553

Not in the marines. College credit can only bump you to E-2. Just another con to add to the list.>>34802642

With the possible exception of the marines, you also can't really talk about respect for an entire branch like that. For instance, if you're in the Air Force people will probably respect you a lot more if they think you're a pilot.

Also,
>be me
>be in Navy
>use my military ID to buy a beer at a baseball game (no driver's license so it's my only proof of being 21+)
>woman looks at ID and goes "Oooooooooo you're one of them Navy SEALS!"
>"no ma'am, I'm just in the regular part of the Navy"
>"Oh that's okay, I still like you anyways."
>tfw

The guard has combat arms units, with the guard you'll only be deployed with your unit, with reserves you could be deployed to fill a vacant slot in another unit even if your unit is not called, also the guard gets extra education bonuses from most states
>>
>>34802538
Comparing the two directly,

>Why to join the Navy over the Marine Corps
More job variety
Skills transfer more easily to the civilian sector
Generally speaking, less unnecessary stress than in the Marines
Less chance of literally getting shot and/or dying
More potential for interesting travel
IMO jobs are just holistically more interesting

>Why to join the Marines over the Navy
If you have to ask this you probably shouldn't be a Marine
OOH-RAH
Americans tend to lionize the Marines as the pinnacle of bravery, so probably get thanked for your service a lot. Maybe this leads to more sex or something. I don't know, I'm not a marine.

First off wtf is a generic marine? Do you mean infantry?
Second off they dont fire anyone. You can get forced out eventually if you dont make rank. Do you not know that?
Third you say start in force recon as if its easy. Its incredibly difficult.
Fourth going MARSOC is leagues tougher and you need to be training for years to even try and you talk about it so casually like it is just something you fall into.
Fifth you said
>but I figure they won't keep me there forever, so i'd have to go to school after and come back
and I have no idea what this even means.
You clearly have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and havent done a single drop of research on your own. I wouldnt be surprised if this is your first time in a meg thread.

Thoughts? Crewman is an armoured soldier, get trained to be a gunner, driver, operator or observer. In recon vehicles/tanks. Military is Canadian.

Nigga I started talking to my recruiter a week ago, i'm researching now.

Im a janitor with no degree, they arent gonna give me a data actuary position because I score well on the asvab, so I assume that unless I use force recon/an outside degree to eventually rank up I will get discharged.
>>
>>34803660
If someone was dq'd from the army could they still apply for their states national guard?

Thats not how it works at all. How can you be so oblivious to how the military works? Seriously dont post here again until you go read up.

Is it worthwhile to go for deployment several times?
Seems like the majority of people like it, and it's not a bad way to get some savings and experience.
I spend almost all my minuscule free time reading and drawing anyways so it's not like I'll do anything different when I sit in some remote base.
