I've been having a lot of jams with these duckbill magazines, is the difference in reliability with the original fixed mags very noticeable?
>>
>>34771840
Yes, some duckbills work but no aftermarket one will be as good as an original. those chink fixed 20 rounders come closest but still fall short
>>
>>34771840
Try the LVS mags. Haven't had any issues with my tapcos, though.
>>
>>34771931

Good to hear, what should I watch out for when buying stripper clips?
>>
>>34771436
Bubba no
>>
>>34771955
stay far away from clips stamped made in china. There's some arsenal marks to keep your eyes out for like chinese oval numbers and BXN/BXN 71 (czech manufacture)
There's a myriad of other markings out there as well.
I generally just buy clips that feel in good condition or have what at least apear to be arsenal marks.
All in all, it's kind of a crapshoot but needle-nose pliers can fix some wonky clips
>>
>>34772000
Oh and I should note not all "made in china" clips are unusable fingerflaying trash. Just the vast majority of them. I've had a few that worked fairly acceptably.
Really, the takeaway from this is always buy clips in person and take the time to really look them over when you do. Unless you're buying a known quantity like a big stack of BXN, russian or yugo clips

Question:

Performance-wise, is there any real difference between a Chinese and a Russian SKS? Where I am, getting a Chinese is MUCH cheaper. Is it just a rarity/prestige thing, or is there something that makes a Russian SKS superior in terms of performance?
>>
>>34774250
>scrimshaw
>in wood

pick one
>>
>>34774334
>Performance-wise, is there any real difference between a Chinese and a Russian SKS?

As long as both are in good working order, you'll get very similar performance from both.
They were created in russia, so that makes some collectors/shooters value them more so than others.
To be honest, you'll get similar performance from an SKS from just about any country, given it's not had the barrel shot out or internals damaged, etc.
>>
>>34774384

Both are brand new from the looks of it (no dents, bluing is 100%, stock has zero dings in it, bore is shiny as a mirror, etc). It's just that EVERYTHING seems to be so fucking inconsistent online.

>people claim Russian is better, or Chinese is better, etc
>people claim Pinned barrel is bad, others claim it's more accurate than a screwed in barrel, etc
>people claim you need specific arsenals and specific years for it to be good

I can't tell what's fact versus what's "I bought this one so it's obviously the best".

Ended up with two new sks this week... Russian Tula and a brand new cowboy companion
>>
>>34774402
>brand new

I can guarantee you neither of them are brand new. Not doubting they're in excellent condition, but not brand new.

As for the claims, people go autistic/ocd/whatever over whatever they're passionate about. Stop by the AR general sometime and observe that severe autism.
A guy that LOVES russian sks's will swear they're more accurate. Same for yugo, or chink, or whatever.
When it comes right down to it, they're all just about the same. Not exactly, but close enough. You'll not be doing any sub-MOA shooting with any of them. They're all quite reliable (unless you try to cram one of those retarded duckbill mags in) and should last longer than you.
Honestly, get whichever one you want, and try not to worry about if it's the best one out there or not. You'll be good to go with whichever one you choose.

>>34771955
You could buy yugo ammo on clips and just sell the ammo and keep the clips. Factory clips go for about .75 cents each.

Ncstar clips are trash.

You may expereince binding issues because the extractor groove in round will vary in size. If its chronic with one clip, just throw it away
>>
>>34774334

The only performance difference i've noticed is with barrel length. My first sks was a russian and it shot fine, this para shoots really well, but i think that is because i widened the rear sight notch. Please dont do this unless you have a spare or the patience to do it.

Oh and the screwed in barrel models dont have as much spring tension on the safety lever as the pinned barrels do. Pinned's will pop into place while milled's will slide into place
>>
I know tapco stocks are frowned upon but are all other aftermarket stocks?
The ati strikeforce looks much better than the tapco and I've been considering it.

I just want a cheap and fun to shoot range toy without having to pay out the ass for a vz 58

all cosmetic. none of that will affect the operation of the gun.
>>
>>34778094
Yeah but most of /k/ just fondles and jacks off on their guns anyway. Rarely if ever do they actually shoot them.
>>
>>34778161

Wait, is it a bad thing that I sometimes take my guns out and begin feeling them up or wiping them with a cotton cloth?
>>
>>34778567
It's OK as long as you shoot them too. They like to be shot. If you don't shoot them they get sad. You don't want sad guns, now do you?
>>
>>34777248

Is this the correct way to attach the sling?

Cause the groups look huge compared to what I've been able to do with mine.

Jk, bb. It's a fun investment, if you don't like it sell it in a year for I'd say 1800. Their drying up really fast and I got a wicked deal on mine. Just keep looking on every Canadian gun trader site
>>
>>34779828
>no bayonet affixed
>no cleaning rod / kit on board

>no wood
>ayyy pencil barrel
better innawoods? highly debatable. especially 3 for 1, you could be akimbo and still have an extra for spare parts
>>
>>34779674
like 110 meteres it was hot as fuck as well
>>
>>34780082
These are all shit arguments, I have a bayonet just not in the pic. I have beaver barf furniture on the way because it is more resistant than wood, I carry a cleaning kit in my innawoods bag, and I have 5 rounders for innawoods. With the folding stock, it's easier to transport even with the snek barrel
Also
>pencil barrel
Wut? It's proven to be much more accurate than an sks. Don't get me wrong I love my sks's, but these are much better rifles, and you pay for it too.
>>
>>34780082
My main sks is a 54 Tula, the other 2 are parts rifles but I still shoot them. My oldest sks is the one hats gonna go first
>>
>>34778674

How can I tell how old my sks is? It's a norinco and has Atlanta GA stamped on the side of the receiver (Georgia fag here so that's pretty cool)
>>
>>34780593
if it's a norinco (made for export, has "Made in China" in english) then the serial number should start with the year it was made. Mine starts with 93, then a space, then the rest of the numbers.
>>
>>34778674
gotta spin the wheels anon. Nothing sadder than a bullet unfired, explosives not blown up, or an engine not taken to redline. Machines like to die for their function, doing it as long as possible.
>>
I'm too lazy to go downstairs and try to find a ruler. Can someone measure a loaded SKS clip's length and width? I'm trying to figure out if shotgun cards would fit in a Chinese SKS rig.
>>

I'm too lazy to type out my full response to you so...G F Y S.
>>
>>34777179
>>34777190

I don't think that's right at all. I have a military model (Chinese characters and arsenal mark) and the sight base is of the same finish, yet it has two little hardness testing marks in it. The barrel and wood are also smooth.
>>
I'm thinking about getting an SKS, what kind of ammo should I buy?
