no, don't buy one. get a express tactical and you won't regret it.
>>
>>34770188

I have an express tactical I'm just wondering if the police models are worth going for. It's not as much fun if you can't put weird shit on them.
>>
>>34769632
The irony is that your AR is literally the most operator AR ever posted on 4chin.

>Low-cost, because you can lose/break your gun operatan quite easily
>Expedient, functional field modifications
>20 round mag you've probably used a bazillion times because it's the mag you have.

Operators don't have nice shit, and if they do, it doesn't stay that way for long. They just have what works, for them.

>>34770200
It's just an 870. As far as I know the only 870's that have issues are the regular expresses since remington is a bunch of kikes and makes it so you need to drill dimples in the mag tube to add an extention. Besides that, regular barrels won't work with chink clones.

I am kinda tempted to get a MOE forend since they are like $30, and I feel like a light, grip would be more useful on it than the AR. I am not completely tasteless though so I wouldn't. If I find another cheap police gun with synthetic furniture then maybe. Wouldn't but the magpul stock though since they are like $110 for some reason. Might get a +2 extension.

>>34770299
I was going to upgrade it but I decided just to save the money and just build a nicer tacticool on if I feel the need to

I had an ergo grip and moe stock on it up until today and decided fuck it and put m4 stuff on it since it looks nicer. I ended up taping the light on there since I didn't have one on it before, and figure something is better than nothing.

A wee bit of rubbing alcohol, some rebluing and its good as new. Its an (((express))) but its just a started shotgun. I'm gonna get a second one with a shorter barrel that's just a normal 870 since a second barrel is almost 30% of a brand new one when taxes are accounted for

I just got back home from house sitting. I sold my pistol so im currently using my shotgun for personal defense. I dont like people knowing what i have and a gun case is to obvious. So this is how ive been transporting my Ithaca.

I take the gun apart. i tie off the ends of a pair of pants legs then i put the barrel and action down each leg. Then i wrap the stock in a tshirt and maybe wrap the ammo in a knot.

20 gauge causes the term "versatile" to come to mind. But it isn't more versatile than 12, which can accomplish more, is the same price, and is produced more i.e. more readily available from scavenging.

The real question is what do you want to use it for and where do you plan taking the hobby moving forward? If you're going to shoot 3 gun in the future, get the shotgun. It may not be ideal, but you can use it. Break some clays along the way. Do you want to try bullseye competitions or long range rifle shooting? Get the .22, the fundamentals of sights, trigger, and breathing will apply for ever no matter what caliber or distance you shoot.

Been looking at getting a 3-gun Pump for Heavy Limited and was torn between the Benelli SuperNova and CZ 612.

Most of what I read says SuperNova but what little I can find mentions the 612 favorably.

My primary concern is ease of loading and the SuperNova is supposedly the best, but I've also heard the 612 loads quickly, too.

Tl;dr Anyone ever used a 612? Would it be good for 3-gun?

>Where to get the extended mag tube?
>I like the RIA but the short mag tube irks me. That "after" one looks perfect.

Mossberg 500 mag tubes fit like a glove. I ordered mine on Numrich. Can't seem to find silver ones anywhere else. If you've got a black M5 you're G2G as far as finding a cheap Mossy mag tube. Only dumb thing is the 500 mag tube has a takedown screw on the end leaving an opening. Talking with another guy who did this conversion on Calguns and tying to figure out the best way to solve that at the moment.

I have a Mossberg 500 takedown screw in the mail. If that dosent work due to the screw not being threaded the whole way to the head, I'm going to try to find something that's threads only in the right size to plug the hole. Pic related: mag tube hole, takedown screw, and threaded plugs.

Additionally, I ordered a second M5 barrel band an screw from Numrich for A E S T E T I C S but you can either leave the stock one in place or just move it to the end of the barrel and run with only one. The stock spring and follower will still work with the Mossy tube.
>>
>>34788094
>The stock spring and follower will still work with the Mossy tube.
Have you tested the reliability yet? There is a risk of having the last few shells have feeding issues if there isn't enough spring pressure due to the short spring.
>>
>>34788265
>>The stock spring and follower will still work with the Mossy tube.
>Have you tested the reliability yet? There is a risk of having the last few shells have feeding issues if there isn't enough spring pressure due to the short spring.

Nothing more than dry cycling yet, but the extended mag tube made by KAK specifically for the M5 has you reuse the standard spring and, presumably, they tested it enough to decide it was good enough that they didn't have to ship a better spring with their product. So if it works well enough they'll risk their reputation I'm satisfied. Failing that, a Mossberg extended mag spring will probably work.
>>
>>34785114

>>
>>34769773
I've got one. I met my hero and was not disappointed in the slightest. Great fun to shoot.
Be prepared to replace an extractor at some point of ownership, however. Requires a little finesse and patience with a file, but it's largely a very easy gun to smith.
>>

>>34783353
I don't know much about the CZ, but it seems like it's better if you're on a budget.
>>
>>34788800
The 67's are one of the only pump shotguns that are actually bad, I heard the older ones were mediocre at best, but by the end of production like half of them wouldn't work right while in the store. The 69's are based on that design iirc so those probably aren't too good either.

I don't know about any other savage shotguns really. The old stevens stuff is good afaik, the 311 double barrels are good, some of their pump guns were used bought by the US during ww1 and 2.

a maverick 88 or hawk ica 982 is fine. The maverick is better off since its near the same price but isn't made by chinks so you probably have a decent chance of getting parts if you need to. Plus they will take regular mossberg barrels (590 excluded since those are different) where as chink 870's won't take remington barrels unless you do modifications.

OP here, didn't bother to take a picture of the maverick, but I was just working on it so here is an old picture. Action was really really rough recently, ended up taking it apart and wiping out all the oil out of it, put some paste wax on the mag tube and put it back together and sprayed some oil into the action, now its running smoother than the 870 again.

Bought it for $175 when as a 28" field when sports authority was going out of business (bought it literally out of boredom and before i got the 870) ended up wanting a shorter barrel for defense and sold the field for $100. Didn't bother getting a security barrel for months since I was cheap. Ended up buying a 28" ribbed barrel on gunbroker for $35 with a bulge near the choke, chopped it to 20" ish and called it a day. Got the 870 afterwards since it was only like $200 after all the fees.

Will use the mav as a beater gun since only got $110 in it.

Up north where I am there is absolute jack shit for pawn shops that sell guns, but when I move south I see more shotguns in my future since I can probably pick up quite a few cheap. Would like 2 ithaca's, field barrel and either a DSPS or a beat up donor that I wouldn't cry about chopping for that shotgun ed action. Auto 5/model11 would be nice too, or a old remington 1100. Maybe get a winchester 1200 since those look cool. A cheap single or double would be fun. Maybe another 870 that I can put some magpul stuff on.
Those mossberg 930's look pretty mean for $380, wish magpul made forends for them.

This is certainly one concern of the CZ. I probably wasn't going to do much modifications aside from a magazine tube.

If I got the SuperNova I would've likely tried to make it less ugly. I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of that gun.

>>34788870
I'm not really on a budget, but I certainly don't want to drop $1k+ on a shotgun that's almost exclusively going to be used for competition (although I might try bird hunting and it will, of course, be available for defense).

>>34789755
I'm partly a CZ guy, so that's why I dredged up the 612. Otherwise I was considering the Benelli since multiple online commenters mentioned it as one of the best for competition due to it's easy reloading. They were not responding to any direct questioning from myself, mind you.

Otherwise, I'd consider a Mossberg pump-gun as that likely has good support and is in my range.

Really though, the big issue is ease of reloading, as reloading a shotgun in 3-gun quickly is the make-or-break of your match. The SuperNova is said to make it easy and perform well and it's in my price range.

>>
>>34795834
Those 612's are turkshit as well as discontinued, so parts will probably be a pain in the ass to find if needed.

Supernova and nova's are good from everything I've heard, so those should be ok. but it's onoly 4+1 so you out of the box would probably want an extension.

I kinda want a supernova just to put one of the M4 collapsible stocks on there. The benelli m4 stocks are probably the coolest stocks besides police only 870 top folders. Only if someone made an adapter for a mossberg 930 to take one of the m4 stocks, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I heard clearing a malf on a sup/reg nova can be a bitch though since once the slide is back, it blocks the loading port.

The loading gate on those seems like it is fairly easy to push from the videos I have seen, plus its can take up to 3 1/2 shells so there is a lot of room to put the shell.

Mossbergs are pretty quick to load too I would imagine. I was messing with my maverick last night after working on it, and you can put them in pretty quick since the lifter isn't down during loading. I'd avoid an 870 if I were you since the loading gate does noticeably slow things down (at least when I was doing it) when I was loading it from a ready position.

Plus if you really man handle an 870, it could be kinda rough to cycle. People complain about mossbergs being rattly (which they are) but cycle the action of a mossberg while having twisting on the forend a bit, and it works just fine, but if you do it with an 870 (at least my police mag) you can feel it kinda bind. It's not enough that you can't cycle it, but it makes it more difficult.
>>
>>34782469
As someone who shot a 12g as a beginner, the recoil's not as bad as you may think. It's there, but so long as you keep the gun tucked hard against your shoulder and expect the kick, you'll be fine. As your fellow novice, good luck!

I swear to fuck I've been in love with PGO shotgun ever since I found out about them. Only sad thing is I've never seen a PGO shotgun that ISN'T a pump action.
Where the fuck are the semi autos, break actions and lever actions?
For the time being I'm actually looking for Professor Parabellum's guide on how to make a DIY double barrel so I can make it into a PGO.
Also if I built myself an AK shotgun from a receiver I made myself and didn't put a stock on it, would my dog get shot? Would it be a PGO? Would it be so much in the gray zone that the ATF would come after me just because they're sick of this shit?

Anyone got experience with the security model 88s? For looks and capacity I prefer it to the standard 18.5. >>
>>34777536
There isn't too much of a difference between 20 and 12 gauge for small game, but it limits you to 10 pellets of #3 buckshot which is a pretty big difference from 9 pellets of #00. Also ammo is more expensive for less.

They are fine, its just an extra few inches on the barrel and mag tube, but they are front heavy like the other guy said earlier. If you swap the forend out, you will need to spend like $50 to get a mossberg 500 forend assembly since the maverick's is pinned.

Thanks for the info re: Mav 88 20 incher. The cheapest price on one right now is $192 inc shipping. This seems like a good price, is it worth pulling the trigger on or waiting in case of a better deal? Also cheap ammo recommends for basic birdshot (not competition or hunting), just plinking/getting the fundamentals in? Babbys first scattergat. Cheers.
>>
>>34799076
That's about a good a price as there is for it. A old used wingmaster or police 870 would be nicer, but the maverick is good for what it does. The problem with the 20" ones is that your are stuck with the barrel you got, afaik mossberg doesn't make any field or rifle barrels for the 8 shot magtube versions. If that isn't a something needed then it's not a big issue.

Bird shot is like .20/shell so its fine for most stuff.

>>
>>34796454
I can see it working with a lever action, but i dont think a PGO would be a terribly reliable semi auto schotgun. A lot of semi autos have FTF/FTE issues if fored from the hip or soft shouldered because that absorbs a lot of the recoil energy needed to work the action.

>>
>>
>>34796413
I wasn't aware they were discontinued. Maybe specific models, but the 612 line seems to still be available as a whole.

The 870 is not supposedly favorable for 3-gun due to the various issues that are normally not a problem but arise in competition that are inherent to it.

I think I'm just gonna go with the SuperNova at this point.

>>
>>34808126
Any pretty much any used pump gun from a major manufacturer ithaca, remington (pre2007 even then avoid try to avoid expresses) ,mossberg, winchester.

Used 870 or mossbergs would be better since you can reliably find defensive and field length barrels for them easily.

New poorfag options

Maverick 88, H&R pardener (chink 870) Hawk IAC 982 (another chink 870).

Maverick 88 is a better choice from a practical sense due to mossberg 500 barrel compatibility as well as it having some other parts commonality with the mossberg 500. Plus you can actually source parts from mossberg. Stuff like the Hawk IAC 982 looks cool and has good features like the ghost ring sights as well as having some 870 parts work with them, they are chinese made and are imported by a different company. So if you ever have something break it's going to be a fucking nightmare to source parts. The barrels on the pardener/IAC also don't interchange with 870 barrels unless you do modifications (wouldn't recommend messing with barrels).
I would though get a Pardener/IAC over a new 870 express any day of the week though.
>>
>>34808126

People shit talk the new 870s but I've had no issues with mine.
>>
>>34808156

Well, anything, really. I'd be willing to drop up to a grand or more. Money isn't really an object, I just want quality. This isn't going to be a hunting gun, I just need something I can target practice with, maintain, and store of use if needed.
>>
>>34808126
>>34808500
Continued since lazy.

Less poorfaggy new options are regular mossberg 500's and then the 590/590a1. 590's don't have any options for more sport purpose barrels. I heard 835 barrels might fit on the 5 shot ones though.

Then there is the benelli nova/super nova, I hear good things I might get a super nova to put a m4 adjustable stock on it since they are cool.

New police 870 magnums and wingmasters are supposed to be uneffected by the quality drop at remington and should be okay. Still better off just buying a used wingmaster or something since they will be nicer and cheaper than a new one.

New ithaca's are pricey but they are good. Availability is spotty, last I remember it's an on and off production type of thing.

Semi wise I only really pay attention to the mossberg 930, since the defense model is like $380 when on sale and are supposed to run most anything pretty well. I heard early early 930's had some issues that would take break in time to fix. Can get field barrels for those too from what I can see.

I don't really know shit about new O/U's or doubles so I can't say. I heard that old stevens 311's are good double barrel's.

The most practical option is to go buy an old used 870 since they are cheap and are nicer than new 870's or mossbergs. There is a pretty good looking wingmaster on armslist that's been sitting for like 2 weeks at $300, it's not too hard to find them at reasonable prices. Bought my police trade in 870 magnum for $170 before fees 8 months ago at sportsmans outdoor super store.

They'll kick a fair but harder than most rifles, desu. But its nothing that isn't mangeable. Just make sure your stance is solid and you'll be fine.

>Feet square to target, or gun side staggered back a bit
>Weight on the balls of your feet
>Shoulders squared to the target
>Bend your knees a bit
>Lean forwards aggressively into the gun, shoulders over the balls of your feet
>Place the butt on your pec below your collar bone, not on your collar bone or up on your shoulder.
>Thumb resting on top of receiver (where the safety is on a Mossberg 500) not wrapped around the grip so you dont get hit in the nose
>Apply enough pressure on the gun to hold it to your chest with your trigger hand, then bring your support hand up to bear sone weight while keeping the pressure on.
>Just before you pull the trigger push forward with your support hand like youre trying to tear the gun in half
>Bang
>Pump is necessary
>Release forwards pressure until youre ready to bang again
>Repeat until satisfied.

Adds stability to the platform reducing nuzzle rise and allowing you to come back on target faster. You dont want to stand there applying opposing pressure the whole time because its tiring, just right before you pull the trigger to get the effect without exhausting yourself. Its called the push-pull method.
