how come the F-22 was only designed with 2D thrust vectoring

how come the F-22 was only designed with 2D thrust vectoring in mind? How much better would it have been to have 3D thrust vectoring?
>>
>>34764181
>3d
2d gives 80% of the benefit for 20% of the mass.
>>
>>34764202
This.
>>
>>34764181
Better at what?

>Combat?
Hardly any better, most liekly worse due to the additional weight

>Air shows?
Perhaps a bit cooler
>>
>>34764215
what if the nozzles were modified to be all-rotating (i.e. 3D)? Did they not consider this?
>>
Most hard turns are done by rolling and pitching, yaw is mostly for fine corrections and slow turns. It doesn't warrant overcompilation the nozzle and further compromising the stealth geometry.
>>
Stfu F-22 is perfect

What other planes have thrust vectoring? SU-35 is the only one im aware of
>>
>>34764258
Su-35, MiG-29OVT, PAK FA, and a bunch of NASA experimental stuff. Thats about it.
>>
>>34764181
Who performs high G yaw manoeuvres?
>>
>>34764181
the US/Germany already tested 3D, they found ut it's just a meme for airshows, it has effect only when you're flying at very slow speeds
>>
>>34764332
this. why bother?
>>
>>34764202

Aerospace fag
I've made Everything glowing in pic

I know it was partly due to the fact that the nozzles are part of the Augliner.
Those nozzles aren't light either, I doubt it was for weight savings.

Vectoring exhaust is basically pointless though. F22 pilots avoid using the vectoring because it kills any momentum you had.
There's a video of a guy explaining it in better detail

TVC is so cool.

>kills any momentum you had
>implying being able to "vector your thrust" (lol) in the opposite direction you're about to turn in is going to do anything but save momentum loss from the maneuver

Doing a hard turn with the vectoring kills ur airspeed.
It's a simple concept

Im dissapointed by not surprised
>>
>>34764258
Does saying "thrust vectoring" sound really cool to you too? Or is it just me.
>>
>>34765265
Like the eyes of a disabled child from hell.
>>
fuckin idiots lol
high alpha is only useful if you really really want that guns kill
unless you have insane twr don't do that shit

thrust vectoring is kinda useful for maintaining control during a stall, but there's nothing 3D thrust vectoring can do that can't already be done with differential thrust
>>
>>34764181
That's not 2D thrust vectoring, that's only 1D thrust vectoring. Up and down, one axis, one dimension.

Su-35's "3d" thrust vectoring is actually only 2d. Up and down, side to side. That's two axis, 2D.
>>
>>34766776
single axis rotation is 2 dimensions ya dip
>>
>>34766797
Ridiculous. By that logic the shifter in a manual car is "3D" because it moves forward/backward, left and right, and does it all from a pivot point.

Face it, the terminology is marketing fluff.
>>
>>34766813
you know how an arc works, yeah?

how do you go from 0,1 on a graph to 1,1 if there is no y axis
>>
>>34765196
Do you know what's the best way to save momentum? Move in a straight line. Of course anything that makes you turn faster is going to kill momentum, that's what turning is all about.
>>
>>34765577
>T H R U S T V E C T O R I N G
No, it's objectively cool to say.
>>
>>34764258
Pretty sure the harriers had it
>>
>>34766828
By this logic, a car driving around a flat parking lot is moving in 3 dimensions.
>>
Everybody knows 2D>3D, anon.
>>
>>34766899
fuck, i got baited, didn't i
>>
>>34764258
>>34764298
Su-30s have it as well
>>
>>34764227
No they didn't because the people who worked on the greatest fighter jet the world has ever seen were brainlets compared with you and couldn't even conceive of the things you can.
>>
>>34764760
Wow a video of a 3d nozzle running in a lab this convinces me 100% 2d fags BTFO.
>>
>>34766956
what if the f-22 is only 2d because the d stands for "direction" ie. up and down

insert >the d stands for dick
meme
>>
>>34765196
>Aerospace fag

No, you really aren't. You come off as an internet armchair engineer.

And now you come off as a ten year old kid
>>
>>34767279
>Einstein
did the math of a highschooler
just thought real hard
>>
>>34764181
I was at an Air Force Museum and they had an F-22 but it was roped off with a sign that said don't touch but I leaned over and touched it with 1 finger anywhere. I've touched an F-22 and that gives me more experience with them than probably anyone else in this thread.

The thrust vectoring of the F-22 is designed for stealth.
