I started watching Youjo Senki and I've been thinking about how a battle would go between Tanya's 203rd battalion and either the 501st Strike Witches or the 502nd Brave Witches. (Assume Takami and Hikari are fighting together if the 203rd goes up against the 502nd)

Tanya has more men on her side, and they're all well-trained adults. However they're less well-armed than either the 501st or the 502nd, as they only have semi-auto rifles while the witches in the 501st and 502nd mainly carry machine guns (and at least one goes into battle with a rocket launcher). Additionally, while Tanya is a very smart and powerful mage, she's considerably more powerful than any other person in her battalion.

The witches of both the 501st and 502nd are all aces, and each has an exceptional magical ability. However, they are younger than the men in Tanya's battalion, and can make dumb decisions from time to time. However, both the 501st and 502nd have witches with healing abilities, something that doesn't seem to exist in Tanya's 203rd. Additionally, the witches of both the 501st and 502nd have more powerful offensive magical attacks than anyone in the 203rd has displayed. The mages of the 203rd can cast spells to change the nature of their projectiles, but no additional magical attacks besides that. Additionally, let's assume that the jet striker unit and 50mm cannon has been perfected and one witch in the 501st is outfitted with it in this fictional battle.

All groups here have magical shields of some sort, which can be penetrated for various reasons. Both groups seem to tire at equal rates, and their magical energy doesn't last forever. The 203rd routinely goes against larger groups of similarly sized foes, while the 501st and 502nd generally go after one or two much larger foes. The 203rd is also capable of engaging in close quarters battle with bayonets, something neither the 501st or 502nd does often.

What do you guys think? Would it be an even match up?

Well, yes and no.

I wouldn't say that they're "dumb", necessarily. They can detect the witches pretty far off and generally start fighting back right away. There's a huge variety of neuroi, some specialized to engage ground forces, some specialized to engage witches. It's kind of luck-of-the-draw when it comes to what sort of neuroi the witches will face, since there seems to be a number of factors that go into what sort of neuroi appears. But nearly all of them can attack from a wide variety of directions and most are quick and very maneuverable.

The only doujin that I think got included in the compiled volumes was the first Rufuira!! and the one with the introduction of FA-MAS IIRC. One of the Echiina!! ones kind of fits in the timeline because it ends at the part where 33 gets shot in the back and dumped in the sea... The latest ones that are outright porn are probably not canon. He even uses a slightly different persona in the afterwords of those "Black Tennouji" lol.
