So buy one. They aren't terribly hard to find.
>>
>>34759123
One or my dreams in life would be start a small firearms company that specializes in (relatively) vintage semi automatic pistols

The model 1908 would definitely be the main production and maybe the Rhodesian Mamba as well

Find a ratty one with no collector value. Go nuts. New replacement parts are being made.
>>
>>34759170
Expect to make no money if you do.

The reason nobody makes repros of old guns is because wood and steel guns are expensive to manufacture, so people would whine like a teenage on her period about the price.
>>
>>34759204
You gotta go for the high-end semi-custom/fully-custom market then. But then like 97% of them will want the actual historical stuff and not a repro.
>>
>>34759123
No, you don't. Get a real one. The quality of the new production 1903's is fucking awful.

>>34759197
Most of the new parts will need significant fitting to get it into the gun.

>>34759256
Mine pictured above required no fitting. Firing pin assembly, grips, barrel, hammer, and sear.
>>
>>34759315
Wait, are you talking about parts ordered from Colt/US Armament, or is somebody else making new barrels?
>>
>>34759170
Lifesizepotato reviewed a Mamba, apparently they're pretty dogshit.
I have no idea why you'd want one, especially one the price would undoubtedly hit above a grand.
>>
>>34759123
I have an early model in .380. Pretty neat, got it for 400 shekels. I'd like another newer one to fuck around with
>>
>>34759327
A crazy genius called in lead we trust is making new production threaded barrels for 1903s and 1908s. He has a website and sells on gunbroker. Jack First gun parts is making new internal small parts.
>>
>>34759123

They are quite nice.

I miss the one I owned. Very much regret selling it.
>>
>>34759368
Ah, OK. Disregard what I said in >>34759256 then. I was referring to the US Armament parts that go into the new production "Colt" 1903's.
>>
>>34759381
Not even US Armaments new magazines work quite right in original guns. I'm not sure what's going on with them.
>>
>>34759123
Is that from the new run of 1903s? Ew. Get a vintage one. The finish on the new ones looks like ass and they cost twice as much as an original.
>>
>>34759418
I'm pretty sure that's because they're made by Triple K. Those magazines almost always have issues functioning.

My dad got a Triple K mag for his Browning 380 (aka FN 1910/1955), and it wouldn't even feed when it was new. I took it apart and the magazine spring was like 60% the length of what even his 50 year old factory magazine's spring was. I replaced the Triple K mag's spring for a Wolff spring and all of a sudden, the FTFs went away.
>>
>>34759197
where'd you find a barrel with threading for it?
>>
>>34759456
see >>34759368
>>
>>34759418
To add to this Interarms Texas makes repro mags that look good and work well for 1903s.

You want one? Buddy i want one.

My grandfather snuck one back from pacific front in WWII. His brother a medic picked up for him off the battlefield and my grandfather snuck it in his cast. When they got back his brother chrome plated it for him. it came off the battle field with pearl grips.

after my grandfather died in 61 it sat in a closet til my dad turned 20 and needed it because some guy was giving my mom trouble. Then it was stolen.

My dad thinks his brother-inlaw stole it because he is the only who knew it was behind my moms bed post.

i need it, something to make me feel closer to my grandfather and because they are awesome.

it would have looked pretty much like the picture.

ive been trying to find a modern equivialnt
>.380 or .32
>single stack
>not super tiny, but still compact
>concealed hammer
closest Ii could find was a Kahr ct .380
>>
>>34759507
Considering they were issued to high ranking officers I bet he did have to sneak it back carefully if he just found it.
>>
>>34759454
I picked up two US Armament mags. They had the same weak short spring issue. I put in Wolff springs but they still occasionally send a round nose up into the top of the chamber. So yeah, probably triple k.

>>34759479
I'll have to look them up. Original mags are crazy expensive.
>>
>>34759532
colt hammerless looks so much better though

You're not going to find anything that fits these criteria in modern handguns, I've looked. Best you can do is get an older gun, like a Colt 1903 or FN 1910/1922.

Kahrs are garbage, I wouldn't pay good money for one. Maybe a .380 1911 if you're willing to compromise on the concealed hammer, but selection isn't great. Colt's "380 Government" (which isn't in current production) is a good size, but it also uses the Mustang action, which is not 100% reliable when Colt executes it. Browning has a small .380 1911, but it has a polymer frame and I don't know how well Browning 1911's are made. If you're willing to go subcompact, the Sig P238 HD has a steel frame and is a soft shooter. The Glock 42 is supposed to be a pretty soft shooter.

I know its not even that close, but I want something close to it that I can carry without fear because I want to be like jimmy from boardwalk empire
>>
>>34759699
I'd get a Glock 42 instead of a Kahr CT380, even though the grip length is different.

Find one like this, like look in an older junkyard in a for f100.
>>

>>34759720
I found the size of the 1903 to be carry perfection too and similarly tried to find something new in that size format. It really doesn't seem to exist beyond maybe the iffy Browning 380 1911. The HK P7 is a bit bigger and much heavier but comes close too...kinda cost prohibitive for carry though.

too tiny, most of the .380s and pocket guns made today are the size of a hotwheels car and cant be shot worth a damn. After having held a true 1903 all I want is a good medium sized pocket gun
>>
>>34759538
Could have been from a Japanese officer as well.
They originally provided their own guns and American and European guns like the 1903 were apparently popular choices.

Get an old Beretta 85 or 84. Several sites are selling trade-ins for cheap.

I cant remember the whole story. My uncle was a medic on the battle field and as his story goes. That he knew the man and that he was a silent movie actor. The man gave him the pistol while my uncle was tending to him. I dont know if he was an officer or not or if he died on the battlefield or in a field medical tent. He did die though.

Thats the story, i dont know how true it is but he was not the man to make stuff up.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of this. Did they make the 85 in .32?

It's called the model 82. As far as I've been able to tell there aren't any in the US. You can get an 81 though, which is a double stack 32. Pic related is my 81FS in the center.

If you really want a single stack you can buy an 85 and put an 81/82 32ACP barrel in it. All parts interchange including the magazines for the 32 and 380 single stacks.
>>
>>34759845
True, but it'd be a bit odd for it to have pearl grips if that were the case.

>>34760298
It's a neat story. One of the reasons I love these guns is that they're all old enough to have seen things we never will.
