.22LR has the reputation of bouncing around inside of someone's body moreso than .25ACP, and .22LR is much cheaper and more available.
Neither are amazing man-stoppers. Choose whichever one suits you, but I wouldn't rely on either one.

Meh. It works. Not my first or second choice, but anything that goes bang is a lot better than a sharp stick.

I just spent the last 30 minutes looking for this story, and I couldn't find anything. Post sauce or gtfo fudd. I did find some soldier named V. Blokhin who executed between 7000 and 11000 men, many of which were done with a single shot of .25ACP to the back of the head. I also found some forum posts detailing .25ACP bullets bouncing off phonebooks instead of penetrating them, so who knows. I will say this, definitely don't use any weak loads in a .25ACP, use some really hot stuff like Buffalo Bore.

Centerfire is always better than rimfire. I would rather carry the .25 ACP over .22 LR just because even if I'm not going to incapacitate, at least my gun won't jam. The bad guys will probably be running away either way, but at least you're not giving them the chance to come take your gun from you.

If you're going to spend $.20/rnd on ammo anyway, you might as well just step up to .25 ACP. All the .22lr caliber carry guns that are somewhat viable all have a .25 or other centerfire alternative.
