it doesnt effect accuracy a terrible amount. It depends on how much you take out and where.

i think you could still be accurate out to 100 hards for spitzer shape bullets.

some work ive done with .38 special.

ive done the same with .45 acp .230gr and it had no effect on accuracy within 25 yards.

here is a book i shot with the .38s. I didnt get any great pictures of where the bullets stopped but they did quite a bit of damage and went 3/4th through the book. Which is impressive. books are tough than you think. They actually penetrated just as deep as normal FMJ but had large cavities.

the big holes are from a normal .45.

The reason for my question begins with trying .308 polymer coated bullets while being new to necked cartridge reloading. It seems that my bullets, set at the same OAL as a remington bullet (I also tried lyman's suggested OAL. Well it dOesn't want to close the bolt on my tikka. It looks like the rifling is literally contacting the entire projectile when I try to push it in. So when I shave a bit, like pic related, they'll let it close. I haven't got to fire these yet though, hence the questions.. Just trying out how to get these fuckers to close

have you checked the diameter? is the coated bullet jut a little too thick to fit? have you tried going a little shorter than standard OAL?

it could also be that the tikka is too tight for odd ammo like that.

but i dont think those slight scrapes are going to hurt the accuracy too much. you probably wont be driving nails though.

don't forget that .30 cal bullets come in diameters all the way from .299 to .314, in every size. Slug your barrel, make sure you are using the correct diameter bullets, and consider setting them farther into the case (if safe) so they don't touch the rifling when you chamber them. If you are near maximum powder charge, reduce the charge start seating the bullets deeper, and work your way buck up with a chronograph. Also, the polymer coating process may add tolerance to the bullets, you can try starting with a slightly smaller diameter bullet, and then powder coating them up to final diameter.

I actually spoke to egglesten munitions, and he said that his loads have an OAL actually longer than these, and he is using 38gr of varget. I'm using 28, should I maybe shorten the oal even more?

Well, OAL on one style of bullet doesnt mean anything else for a different style bullet. You can use a similar OAL to the Remington bullet, if your bullet is the same length/weight as the Remington bullet.

Are you using cast lead bullets, powder coated? Those are inconsistent, and they look much longer than the brass cartridge on the right in your picture. Maybe you need to start casting shorter .308 bullets. You have a few options:
1. Switch bullets for something more reliable.
2. Change your casting process to get shorter OAL bullets.
3. If possible, seat the cast bullets deeper.
4. If you are already seating them well below normal magazine length, something is probably wrong with your rifle's chamber. Check for obstructions or dirtyness.

well, if i try to close it hard, i can see uniform rifling around the actual bullet. the projectile length is 1.145" by the way. Sounds like my best bet is to press these bullets shorter

No one sees it this way, but Cass, with both quest ending completed (glitch I think), does the most damage if given the Avenger. Alongside that I take along ED-E and the Stand Back!/Shotgun Surgeon perk. Go in with a riot shotgun and ta da, ya killed yourself an entire group of deathclaws.
