Now that Springfield is run by faggots, how do I get my hands on a M1A or M14 type rifle without selling out like they did?
>>
>>34756066
James River Armory, Fulton Armory, or buy used.

Good luck. They're fun.
>>
Literally every other semi auto battle rifle is better than the M1A. Even the PTR.
>>
Related M14 question, not acquisition but design. If it had a pistol grip would that have mitigated some of the problems, or was it more the action and spotty manufacturing that were the problems?
>>
>>34756100

Yeah but they aren't American.
>>
>>34756122
Pretty sure the PTR is made 100% in America
>>
>>34756066
Track down a Norinco. There is a guy selling one on abetterbattleriflethanm14files.com marketplace right now at a decent price.

Horribly overpay for a Rockola. Has the bayonet lug tho.

LRB Arms makes M14s in a variety of configurations so if you want a Vietnam era gun, or a modern M14 with an archangel stock, then they'll set you up.

Not cheap from the look of things. They 1600 on the cheaper side.

There was no problem, especially manufacturing related.

I assume you're talking about the full auto being a problem to control. In which case any .308 has that problem, the FAL did, the CETME-C/G3 did, any of the .30 rifles like the SVT-40 had the problem.

Full auto just isn't controllable by mere mortals in a light rifle.

M14 had a pistol grip model anyway.

The idea of an american firearm 100% designed in the USA gets me hard too, but after the mud and dust test that karl and ian did...

>mfw it jammed up simply from being fired prone on dusty ground

JUST
>>
>>34756237
Seems like it would just be easier to handle if it had a pistol grip, so any reason the ones issued to the soldiers didn't have a pistol grip? Was it only introduced after it had been replaced?
>>
>>34756290
By showing them it's a Fulton? If you are worried about what other people think of your purchase then you should just buy a scar. Or the fanciest rollmark ar you can afford.
>>
>>34756254
That's because Fultons are hand built by only a handful of gunsmiths. Also they have an MOA guarantee that springshit doesn't.
>>
>>34756335
>>34756375

I'm more concerned by their reputation, and if it really is that good, then it will be a lot easier to take pride in the fact that I spent that kind of money on an old design. It's easy to get ripped off by folks selling lookalikes.
>>
>>34756393
Fulton are top notch.
>>
>>34756116
A synthetic stock solves some problems.

The biggest "problem" with the design imo is that the action clamps into the stock in order to make it easy to disassemble. If it were to screw in like most bolt actions do it would be a much more versatile rifle.

Don't ask /k/ though. They'll never like it because it doesn't have rails and it costs more than an ar kit.
>>
>>34756319
Because americans are wierd. We didn't put a pistol grip on the BAR either.

They had all the stocks made and ran with it before realizing solider's just weren't being massive manlets.

They were only in main battle rifle service for 5 years, so it wasn't like they had time to redo the entire stock production line. They're still in use as the Mk 14 EBR among other sniper and tacticool roles.

Look around for a early Fed Ord rifle with a serial below 8900.

Picked up this one in the 4k serial range, all USGI parts, for $1000 a few months ago.

The Brass wanted to stick with the M1 rifle, even while their allies were moving on to the more modern battle rifles of the time and the Soviets just starting to phase in the new AKM. Ironically, Winchester created a prototype that probably would've met the requirements they demanded, which if I think is correct, was a multi-purpose service rifle built using existing tooling, replacing the M1 rifle, M1 carbine, M1918A2, and M1903A3.

One of the many reasons Beretta has been and will always be my #1

The 70, 80 and 90 series, the cougars, the 12S, the AR70, the 1201, the 1301, the BM series, their western guns and sport shotguns, the Cx4, he'll even the 160 is ok. If they got bored enough to do a 1911, a double action revolver and fix the 9000 they would have damn near every base covered. Their umbrella companies are fantastic too

>>
>>34756205

>>
>>34756066
JRA is the go-to. Forged receiver, better parts, better QC. They cost $2k but it's worth it.

Also they make BM59s off of Italian parts kits for ~1300 which is a bargain, however expect to pay out the ass for magazines.
>>34756100
People will scream "HERESY" but it's roughly on par with a FAL. I have an M1A, I dig it. I recognize that both are a bit outdated but still plenty practical and effective.

Also
>PTR
I really want to love it but every time I handle or shoot one I remember why I don't have one. Ergos are disgusting. Swiss did a roller-locked gun that shot better, ran better and didn't feel like a railroad tie so it was definitely possible. G3 was just built around being cheap.
>>34756116
Well, it's a challenge to free-float. You can get pretty damn good accuracy using a simple plastic or fiberglass stock though.

Springfield has gradually gone away from forged USGI parts (duh, they dried up) and towards cast parts. Some of them don't hold up over time. If the serial number is under 150000 or so it's a good-n. Mine is just over and it has mostly cast parts, but shoots great. Has a USGI barrel.

JRAs are better made than Springfields. LRBs are very well made, but very expensive.
It's an inherently expensive gun to make. No way around it.
>>34756290
Cheapest SCAR I've ever seen was $2500.
I've bought both of my M14geries for less combined.
M1As are like 1300 new, JRAs are 2k. Steep? Compared to poverty-tier AR10 builds and Century guns yeah. Par for course compared to most other BRs.
>>34756309
Don't slather your rifle in mud then. Even they said their mud tests don't matter as much as others say they do.
>>34758647
I used to have S/N 1081 Fed Ord. One of their first rifles. It doesn't exist anymore. Receiver was waaaaaaaaaaaaay out of spec. Got it for 1k, turned it into a parts kit. It's rebuilt as an LRB now.
>>34760932
Then buy a JRA BM59 rebuild. They're great rifles and they're priced well. Just expensive mags.
>>
>>34756066
how exactly did they sell out
never heard about it...

We did put a pistol grip on a BAR. Colt did it in 1931 with a model known as the R80 Monitor intending to sell them to law enforcement and prison guards.
