It's to keep the mag well the correct shape when it gets hot and bendy, as FN pistols tend to do. Same reason Russians put blue tape on their magazines.

That blue tape is actually Russian electrical tape. There are different colors representing better insulation properties. The military just had a lot of blue laying around and the soldiers used it for practical means.

Later it became decoration.
And now rude & angry faggot fucks on /k/ LARP and put it on their guns without knowing what it was for.

I had two stripes of blue electricians tape on the stock of my G3A3 for my entire military service. With 8 men in one tent and alarms some times coming in the middle of the night I could always identify my weapon at a glance, instead of trying to read off the numbers while everyone is running around me. Never was a complaint from any of my officers. Others had similar kinds of markings on their weapons.

Thanks for explaining this. My cousin got out recently and gave me a box of his old magazines and quite a few had a strip of blue tape and wondered what it was for.

i use blue tape to denote the mags i use for reloading practice and never ever load.

Clearly weapons marked with blue tape are loaded with blanks for fake firefights with terrorists, by special forces units who are secretly bad guys and don't want to kill the other bad guys. Live mags are always marked with red tape!

So when you go to prove a point by doing a full mag dump with a submachinegun in the middle of a police station, make sure to use the blue mags/guns, not the red marked ones.
