Ok, so poor countries and militias have improvised fighting vehicles like technicals for heavy support weapons, right?

Are there "technical" versions for aircraft and boats/ships? Like do improvised fighting boats/ships or aircraft exist?
>>
>>34749317
Does it have to be a poor country and do military variants of civilian aircraft count?

Bazooka Charlie is pretty close - observation pilot that decided he was wasting fuel and time by not being armed during his observation flights so he strapped Bazookas to his Grasshopper and killed tanks.

I think he killed 6 tanks in his plane "Rosie the Rocketer".
>>
Kebabs have used gunboats- which is basically a speedboat with some kind of heavy machinegun on them, aircraft not so much as actually finding a working plane and someone who can fly are much less common.
>>
>>34749317
I assume the ships used by pirates off the Horn of Africa are civilian and therefor improvised.
>>
>>34749919
Not to mention maintenance. Even small planes require a level of skilled maintenance anyone bad off enough to require technicals probably cant afford to provide.

Small improvised gunboats are sometimes called boghammars after Boghammar AG, a swedish shipwright that supplied boats to Iran which were turned into sea technicals during the tanker wars
Pic related, one of the\ genuine Boghammar brand Boghammars

Near the end, Gaddafi loyalists were using Cessna's to drop ordinance and shoot at rebels because NATO killed their jet and helicopters.

Rebels don't always know how to operate the equipment. IIRC they even captured some jets from Syria but had no fucking idea how to operate them, so they just sat around.

they had to play some dcs mig-21 :^)

"hey, ahmed, you are not our goat herder any more, you are promoted, you are our designated fighter pilot from now on, play this game extensively, your first sortie is scheduled in a week"

The most impoverished of african countries still have billions of dollars of revenues annually. They could spend their money on vanity stuff like shiny planes, let intl contractors to operate and maintain it for them and let general populace to go to shit
>>
>>34751012
found a pic of them being used on the wiki, in the article about the iran-iraq war

also found a drawing of a silhouette of iraqi super etendard there and nearly orgasmed, it's so pretty, aww

Here's the iranians doing broadsides against tanker ships with MRLs.

Its fucking brutal.
>>
>>34751755
but why didn't the tankers have some machine-guns themselves?
>>
>>34751673
Well uh yeah, they do.

But those aren't technicals, those are professionally build jets flown by state air forces.
>>
>>34751755
Think the bit that actually made me laugh was when they sometimes manage to miss... fucking Abu Hajaar!

>>34751673
That's actually an 'airforce' though, the plane equivalent of a technical would be a crop duster or cessna with some machineguns strapped to its wings and probably piloted by someone that managed to take off in a flight simulator once.
Plus its not nearly as much bang for your buck considering it'll probably never come back and can't really be repaired if it did by Ombopo down the road with some baling twine and swearing like a Hilux can
>>
a few rebel armies nowadays use drones

They have used 'em quite heavily. Mostly because they don't have lot of better aircraft at hand.

There is pretty big thermal sight and laser designator unit on bottom of the plane.

155mm SPG is good placeholder actual item for heavy naval gun system tests. Germans mounted one on frigate as bit more fixed installation.

The Malaysian Navy converted a merchant vessel into an ersatz helicopter carrier/patrol vessel/commando ship to patrol the Gulf of Aden during the height of Somali piracy. The MT Bunga Mas Lima had a hangar for a helicopter and armed with machine guns ad grenade launchers. It carried a Fennec or Super Lynx helos and a complement of Navy commandos. The ship was very successful and managed to capture several pirates and rescued a shipping vessel.
>>
>>34753584
This ship probably violated over 9000 US Navy shipbuilding standards and regulation. how it can even stay afloat?
>>
>>34753605
Not really. It was refitted under the Malaysian Navy auspices. The deck was strengthened to accept the weight of a helicopter landing. Superfluous machienery such as the fwd crane was removed. Fuel bunkers were built for aviation fuel while the enclosure for the hangar was built on deck. Since the ship is not carrying cargo, it could sail relatively fast. The crew were Civilians conscripted into the Navy. From afar, it looks like a container ship, similar to Q-ships of old. In any case, why should we adhere to US Navy rules.

Arming trainier aircraft is basically the flying version of a technical in third world airforces.

Although to be fair, many trainers are built to become fighting aircraft when necessary.

Trainer jets are by design, usually equiped with the same or similar avionics and weapons systems of true fighter aircraft. It's no big leap to use them in actual fighting, especially in CAS roles.

This is really cool, actually. Do they use the rear crane to help load munitions on board now or something? You'd think they'd just remove it. Was it to improve the "cargo boat" camo?
