Being suicide proof was actually part of the design of the Arisaka rifles, dictating its length. The nips have a certain propensity towards suicide with their silly honor stuff, they did it so that the soldiers would actually fight to the end rather than kill themselves honorably at the first sign of defeat. The nip infantry ended up tying the triggers to their toes with string.
