What kind of bear are we talking about? For black bear pretty much anything from 10mm up will do. For brown I'd want a .45-70
>>
>>34743528
first of ; a RIFLE in a caliber ranging to 7,62x39 for the least powerfull up to 300winchester mag

if handgun well : 10mm or 7x62x25 tok should be the bare min.
or you know fuck huge wheelgun in 454, 30-30, 44marlin, 500s&w etc
>>
>>34743974
Adding to long gun options 12 gauge slug. Not sure on the tok option or 30-30 out of pistol but yeah 10mm or proper magnum wheelgun

Just get a standard 15+ round 9mm semi-auto you autistic fucks. Bears aren't bulletproof, shoot them once in the head or 3-4 times and they drop.
If you can't kill one with 15 shots you shouldn't be allowed to own a gun.

Black Bear: 9mm and bonded 5.56/7.62x39/.30-30. Total memes if you have a firearm desu. I have scared off lots of black bears with just yelling/screaming. Many killed to standard service loads even down to the .38 Special.

Brown Bear: 10mm and 7.62NATO Battle Rifle with bonded .308.

Kodiaks/Polar: 10mm and .458SOCOM AR, .45-70Govt Marlin 1895, AA .338 Lapua Magnum, or Benelli M3/M4 with Brenneke Black Magic slugs.

Heavy bonded bullets through a semi-auto or quick repeater are best for bear protection. Protection is different than hunting. I would bump everything up for brownies in a hunting scenario since you generally don't want 20+ holes in your bear pelt.

t. bear hunter and live in bear country

This ridiculous love for 10mm, putting it in the same category as any other round you're listing as comparable is wildly misrepresenting its capability.

10mm is equal to or outperformed by .357 Magnum, and 10mm is easily outperformed by nearly any centerfire rifle round in existence.

Bottom line: it could be a big bear stopper, but it doesn't belong on that list as if it's "the" handgun bear stopper round.

I'm going to get shit on for this, but I would honestly go for a +p 9mm wadcutter. Shot placement is more important than stopping power, and taking quick follow up shots is easier with a 9. Other acceptable bear killing rounds are .357 SIG, 7.62x25, and 5.7x28.

this. you ain't wrong, there's a video on YouTube of a Russian cop dropping a brown bear with a makarov. makarov basically shoots a .380 with what, 8 shots?? this was of course in super close range, like 3 ft away from the bear.

The issue isnt being able to kill it with 15 shots Its being able to kill it with two or three you cheeky fellow. Its the question of being able to shoot the bear anywhere in the torso instead of just in the head. Its better, smarter more capable people with 100 times more experience than you consistently choose something for a reason.

See: the only times you would actually be in danger you don't have time for 15 shots you have time for a few, and thats the line between being mauled or not mauled. Regardless of if you get afraid of a random bear and mag dump 15 rounds into it

Let me describe fatal bear attacks: you are on a trail you and dozens other are used to walking or biking safely. A grizzly bear ambush charges you from the side, by the time you notice it its running 25 miles an hour, this is not a test charge, it has every intent to kill you. This is not tv shows where you see the bear 100 yards away and you stand your ground and it wanders off. The bear is not going to territorially maul you or swipe at you, its jaws are going to crush your neck or torso and kill you immediately. There is every possibility you wont be shooting the bear until its mauling you have fun with 9mm. Alternatively the other times they wake up in the middle of the night and THE BEAR IS ALREADY TEARING APART THEIR TENT alternatively THE BEAR LITERALLY BREAKS INTO YOUR HOUSE TO KILL YOU. Hope you can tack that grizzle in the head with 9mm laying in bed and kill it.

On a realistic level if im hiking in bear country id probably want something along the lines of a .44 mag, .454 casull or even a 500. Id probably go with a .44 because its more controllable than the other two. Preferably in about in a 6 inch bbl.

Stop being an autist and carry a rifle. I'd choose an AR or a PTR-91. Either would work, but .308 a lot more. Realistically any gun in 5.56, 7.62x39, or .308 would work just fine and a lot more than any pistol caliber.

Inb4 "it's too heavy", then maybe you should consider not being a pussy and sling it over your back when you hike.

The bolt handle actuates both bolts as I understand it. The gun feeds from a single dual feed magazine. It got invented after a guy was charged by three elephants at once.
While it is a fairly specific scenario, I cannot think of any other gun I'd rather have in such a situation.
>4chan may never know
I say we round up the self proclaimed richfriends and pester them to buy one, if only for bragging rights.
Hell, they even make one in .22, it'd make a crazy fun plinking rifle, or be real handy if you found three foxes feeding on your bait some day.
