Question isn't directly related to ARs, but I figure there's no harm in asking, I got my first AR not long ago, I'm a new gun owner, and haven't actually bought any cleaning items yet for my guns. I've been looking at cleaning material, and I've heard some conflicting things. Some people say a cleaning rod with patches is an absolute must, since they clean barrels to absolutely pristine condition, some say a bore snake is more than enough for your average shooter, and does a good job of cleaning a barrel, but then I've heard some people say bore snakes are only good for quick and dirty cleaning and you should always use a rod. I kind of want a bore snake since they're cheaper and look easier to use and store, but are they a meme? Do they clean good enough? Or should I get a rod for my guns?

You don't need to blast the copper out of your bore after every range trip. Get a few bore snakes, keep one in your range bag, keep the rest at home. I have a single 2-piece rod that I use to punch bore solvent patches through barrels every few months and knock out stuck cases.

Is this a good way to start an A2 build?

Right now I'm running a PSA Freedom carbine length AR with magpul furniture and a nitride finish. I like it a lot. It does everything i need it to, which is mostly limited to slow firing 2 boxes of 5.56 at a range because I'm poor, and it's my home defense gun, but I kind of want an A2 build for my next AR. They look fucking cool. I grew up on Operation Flashpoint and always wanted to join the army (didn't due to back/leg injuries) back when it was the standard rifle.

I also want one because I feel it would be a great thing to introduce to my nogunz family and friends because a 20" barrel and full length gas system softens the recoil a lot (not an issue for me 5.56 recoil aint shit, but I've had new shooters claim my AR 'kicks' a lot)

Are there better places to do A2 builds? I don't see many Milspec A2 uppers floating around, other than saving up and buying this,

I only paid about $500 for the rifle more than a year ago, so I'd like to keep it near $200 or less. I was thinking maybe one of those holosun's, I've seen them near $130 on sale shipped a few times and they are nicer than the TRS25's by a good bit I heard. That or one of those primary arms 2.5x etched scopes that are around $180.

I managed to get 50 shekels for my trs25 selling it to some goy even after the $16 after rebate thing happened.

As for the range I'd be shooting at, within 300 yards, probably 100yd or in most of the time. I don't have a place to shoot atm so it's mostly just a guess.

Is this your first AR? New to shooting? If so then you arent missing out terribly. Theres tons to add to the performance, accuracy, precision, and ease of use to a rifle. But if you are new to shooting or even ARs you wont be able to appreciate them and they might even become a crutch. That will do fine for just about anything.

Believe it or not (especially for a civilian who might have a rifle for fun or just home defense) having the latest military grade shit and the highest dollar optics and hardware arent going to make an AR that much more effective.

so milspic will hold up and last longer whereas your cheapo ones won't. I have shot out a couple cheap BCGs, so i tend to buy the proper material versions. Im not picky on the logo and will buy whoever makes a milspec bolt with proper materials.

Realistically I could just get a savage axis and probably have 99% of my future needs for large rifle caliber stuff filled. However tactical builds look cooler. I'll probably just shoot steel or durr if I decide to hunt.

What I'll probably do it once I move to some place with some pawnshops that sell guns, I'll just troll around looking for some stevens 200 or old remington 700 and use that and eventually put a nicer stock on it. Or just get a savage hog hunter, paint it camo and call it a day.

Despite what people say PSA is the best low/most d tier rifle for the money. There are too many faggots in here that will tell you that your ride a shit if you don't have a CHF chrome lined bore, but at the rate they shoot their great grand children wouldn't wear out the barrel. Best thing to do is get a complete upper minus BCG+CH and buy a NiB bolt+any decent CH, NiB isn't really necessary though. Watch for a sale on lowers, despite the memes don't get an ambi, they are unfcomfortable with the selector poking your hand. If paths shows up he can give you more advice on PSA.
