What's your favorite fighter?
What do you think was the best fighter?
>>34740808
My favorite; corsair.
>>34740852

>>34740808
herukato
g.55s ofc :^)
She was part of the last gasp of a bygone era and outdated the day the she was introduced, but by God, did she go out with a bang.
This is Supermarine SPITFIRE. It was the greatest fighter in World War II.
>>34741019
I shiggy diggy that paintjob
>>34740951
Nothin personnel ked
>>34741034
Retard
>>34740852
That's a big fighter
Hmm, Yak-3 may be
>>34741019
I don't give a fuck if it's inferior to sky grey. 40s-50s camo jobs on modern aircraft are pure sex.

>What do you think was the best fighter?
depends entirely on what time period you are talking about
Mosquito > Corsair > P-47 > F6F > P-38 > P-51 > Il-2 > Yak > P-40 > Spitfire > Zero > MiG-3 > Bf-109 > Hawker Hurricane >>>>>>>>>> Stuka >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fw.190 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Me-262 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Italian fighters >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Japanese Army fighters
>>34741144
It fucking shouldn't matter anymore, just let Squadrons paint whatever they want. I want full Knightly livery back.
>>34741180
tfw japanese naval fighters like zero aren't even mentioned
btw of the army fighter hien was aesthetic as fuck
For me it's the Folgore, the best WW2 fighter.
>>34741180
What kind of Amerilard picks something like Mosquito as his favourite?
>>34741215
They had the nicest camos too.
>>34741430
>strategic bombing at insane speeds in a box of plywood
based
none of them
ww2 was the worst war for planes, they all looked and functioned like shit. anyone who flew them should be fucking ashamed
>>34741439
Was there something wrong with plywood?
Not good for dive and g-forces?
Didn't Soviets use it plenty?
>>34740808
The spitfire was undoubtedly the most beautiful, but my favourite has to be the P-47, for sheer ease of use.
>climb high
>do nothing for ages
>dive on some fool
>immediately climb again
>limp back home with 200 bullet holes in every control surface
You would have to try to be shot down in one of those.
>>34741487
When they climbed, fuel would be forced through the pores of the wood due to the pressure differential.
Other than that, nothing wrong with plywood.
>>34741509
Cool
>>34741449
i wonder what you look like in real life
P-40f.
No aesthetic carb scoops...but still tho
34741449
That bait is so low energy it would give Jeb a run for his money.
>>34740808
100% normie History Channel choice, but the P-51D is my favorite. That bare aluminum with painted accents just looks so good.
Close runners up are the FW-190 and the P-38.
>>34740972
>Norway
>managed to shoot down five German aircraft: two Messerschmitt Bf 110 fighters, two He 111 bombers and one Fallschirmjäger-laden Ju 52 transport
>The remaining four operational fighters were ordered to land wherever they could away from the base. The Gladiators landed on frozen lakes around Oslo and were abandoned by their pilots, then wrecked by souvenir-hunting civilians
liek this if u cry evertim
>>34741215
aw, i think i missed zero in that post
>>34741493
try some sim with pvp to see how you "should try to be shot down" in that winged barrel of no climb that only did tolerable because of the huge number advantage

It is kind of sad that there's like 5 flyable Zeros left in the world and only one of those has an actual Zero engine in it.
>>34741662

Most aesthetic that was too little too late
>>34741864
It's just so absurd, you have to like it.
After the engine upgrade. P-40 Warhawk

>>34741917
for absurd you would better post twin mustang
>>34742009
brazilian ww2 planes with victory marks?
>>34741069
After reading about that plane I'm convinced nothing could touch it until 42, and it was competitive until 45
>>34741114
The yak3 with the vk108 engine was stupid fast, 460 mph if I remember correctly.
.25 hp per lb
>>34741493
I'd say that thing would be almost completely safe against 30 cals, but 50s would carve the wings off and the 20mm's the Germans used would cut it in half
A German mk108 (30mm) would atomize it, it took 3 mk108 shells on average to take down a b17 (compared to 25 20mm shells)
>>34741493
It could dive with anything at the time, and i mean ANYTHING
>>34742074
The Spitfire might want a word with you about that
>>34741536
He's bullshitting, the fuel tanks weren't made of wood and the plywood was impregnated, making it double false.
>>34742141
The mosquito was used frequently as a spy plane, and to receive transmissions a radio operator needed to be placed in the aft fuselage.
The biggest hazard which came with that job was the fuel vapours, which they didn't just have to breathe in, but which also threatened to ignite when the radio was switched on.
>>34741917
I think you've confused the term "absurd" with "rational".
>>34740808
The Meerschmitt
>>34741180
>fighter
>stuka
>5500hp
>50psi of boost pressure
I know it's kind of shit but I actually really like it if for nothing else the aesthetics. Shame it would fall apart during flight
if you don't like the Polikarpov I-16 you are a motherfucker fact
>>34744249
I hate it because it absolutely wrecked my British biplanes in WT.
>>34741509
That's some shitty bait. Do you really expect someone to believe that the fuel tanks were bare untreated plywood?
this fat piece of shit because it's huge and it has 8 fucking 50 cal machineguns
>>34741713
>Only Zero with it's original engine.

>>34742031
Brazilian air force had one P-47 squadron in Italian front, they flew 450 bombing missions with total 2500 sorties.
>>34744249
I like it, foggiest problem for me is that it's center of lift is unstable (it was always be pulling up), and the engine cuts out during negative g's
>>34745000
Biggest *
>>34745000
>I like it, foggiest problem for me is that it's center of lift is unstable (it was always be pulling up)
That's not unstable, that's normal and you can just trim that out (although the I-16 has no trim lol); unstable is when it pulls up more the higher AOA you are, so that a pitch moment will rapidly increase until you are stalling without corrective control input.
>>34745082
I get that, but you cant balance it out, that makes gunnery harder and high speed flight tedious over distance
I should have just said it had no trim
>>34743100
No way it made 5500, try 3500
>>34742074
dunno what you read if you didn't even get that different models of that plane had vastly different characteristics
>>34741650
>aw, i think i missed zero in that post
Zero, Raiden, Shiden...
>>34745381
late tests showerd 5500, by just upping the boost pressure like mad. mechanically, the sabres were pretty much all the same after the Methanol/water injection business.
>>34744366
It's performance is pretty shit in a dogfight imo, at low altitudes it stalls in a turn fight, a 109 could take it
At high altitudes it loses to a fw190
>>34741241
this
>>34745501
Fw190D ? probably
Fw190A ? Lmao no
>>34745413
I'm saying that the 1942 models of the 109 could beat anything in a fair fight and that 1945 models of the 109 were still competitive
No historical reason, it's just the one I liked the most when I played Combat Flight Simulator 2 growing up.
Dora wins it all
>>34743857
Patrician taste, anon. I second this because I think it's the only jet partially built in wood. Astounding Kraut Spacemagic
Could possibly case down a 262 at very high altitude...
Shame they left the planes state side.
Witches Broomstick.

>>34741241

>>34740808
Always liked the P-38 and the P-47 when growing up. When I found out about the Hurricane I was blown away.
>"Alright mates, back from that tiff in Yugoslavia."
>"Ah, good good. Your to report to France, give Jerry a good drubbing."
>"Bloody hell that was a mess. Now what?"
>Get back to the homeland, put on this new propeller, keep the Germans at bay!"
>"Ha, their turning back with their tails between their legs!"
>"Excellent! Now we need you down in India. But first give up those .303's and take these 20mm and head to North Africa. But, when you get the chance, the Italians have been pestering Malta, do something about that. Also we have some 40mm Vickers that need testing against Kraut tanks."
>"... is that a-"
>"Oh my, almost forgot. Strap on these rockets and climb on that merchant freighter over there."

>patrician taste
literally basic ass, history channel, wherb wank.
>I think it's the only jet partially built in wood
Nope, pic related.
>>34745550
It would loose to a fw190a below 6000 feet
Play some games that model it accurately, it's REALLY bad to turn fight below 2000m with a thunderbolt
>>34745874
The p51h was a beast of a fighter, but 450 mph at 10,000 ft is still 130mph slower then what a 262 could pull
>>34745884
The b-I6 was better, same design but with two 3kn ramjets on the wingtips
>>34742674
What the actual fuck?
>>34746468
A Defiant fucking Kraut shit up like usual, what about it?
>>34746468
Defiants kicked ass right up to the point where the enemy discovered it didn't have forward firing guns (you could have the turret positioned to only fire forwards) after then it found another use when painted black.

Messerschmitt Marauder sounds pretty cool.
>>34746593
Holy shit I didn't know this thing existed, it's so sexy, also those reported performance specs, fuck yeah. Thanks for the sweet info man.
>>34746552
Imagine how much more useful it would have been with even two .303s facing forward. Fuck, even dive bombers were better armed. I understand "muh turret fighter doctrine" but did they really expect to always have the favourable engagement angle?
>>34746651
>He-162
>not spontaneously disassembled
Absolutely unrealistic
>>34746694
"Favourite German anything" always comes with the caveat of "for the one or two that worked correctly at any given time".

Kraut Space Magic
>>34746691
The wings were all under carriage and fuel though something underslung might work.
>>34746799
What about above the engine in the cowling? It's not like it should be hard to find room for a couple rifle caliber MGs.
>>34743857
tfw the main reason for its shittyness was lack of resources and quality control.
that one brit prototype pilot even endorsed it after the war
>>34741917
Grandad worked on these. Still have some of the manuals.

It was a one trick pony and locked into that roll by management that largely had their heads up their asses.
>>34746952
Also, these, prior to being shipped to Italy to work on the V-1710 Allisons he went to school prewar to learn.
He liked the Mossie, and liked the Packard Merlin over the RR version as the heads were removeable, and it used much better bearing material.
>>34747006
Fuck it, what about conformal mounts above the wing? IT WAS A GOOD FIGHTER IF YOU JUST PUT GUNS IN IT GOD DAMN BRITS
>>34743857
this was actually highly praised by both allied and German test pilots for ease of control and handling, given sufficient resources and earlier introduction it would've been a serious threat

Does space magic just mean "functionally useless?"
>>34747030
He said "it was the dumbest thing the British ever did".
And while he did not like the Mustang he said "The brits did fix it.".
I like the Yak-9T. Its my favorite to play in War Thunder.
All countries had their own planes with their own styles. None is inherently the best because most of their main fighters did well or moderately in their roles.
>>34741145
Nobody had cloth wings in WW2. In WW1 some fighters had canvas wings and that's it.
>>34741650
There isnt even a proper sim that models the P-47, not that it looks like you understand energy tactics anyways
>>34740951
how?
all your good pilots are dead. they suicide attacked...and got rekt
>>34741493
later on it made for a great ground pounder
>8 fifties

or
>2500 lbs of bombs or napalm
plus, it had the R2800 engine, the best radial engine ever used

Cloth panels on the wings . Look closer.
Many WW2 planes had cloth covered control surfaces.
I can't think of any WW1 planes that were NOT cloth covered frames.

>>34750404
it was a competent fighter at the outbreak of ww2 the problem was that air command was in complete disarray do to all of Stalins purges most of the losses in operation barbarossa were planes sitting idle at the air bases they didn't even think to report the attacks to neighboring air bases

>>34741114
The yak-3 is a very underrated fighter, especially since it's so pretty.

And it was armed with a single 23 mm gun with 60 rounds .
Truly fearsome machine.
Greatest radiator to ever fly.
