Hey /k/, so i was thinking about picking up a sporterized M1903 or something for around $250 like that and refurbish it back to its original military configuration. I'm sure I'm not the first one to think about doing this so are there any tips you would give if you have? Would it be better/cheaper to just buy an original?

depends on the particular rifle and what damage was done to it. the picture you posted has had the receiver drilled for a peep sight and will need a new barrel most likely. its not worth it and honestly that sporter looks like a fun target gun, id just savor it as a cheap $250 range toy if it shoots well

also you can buy them in original military configuration for like $600 if you shop around.
a drilled receiver is worthless from a collector standpoint. a GI barrel will cost you like $150 used, $250 if you get new old stock. small parts, the finishes will not be matching, the bolt is polished and will need a new bolt body
its just not worth it unless you can get the rifle for $100 or less
