Do modern day American Combat Medics carry rifles? I hear in the geneva convention they arent technically allowed but also technically banned from it.
If they do, do they do the same door kicker shit as any other soldier would.
Specifically the 75th Rangers
>>
>>34736606
>implying the US gives a fuck about commiting warcrimes

Who is going to punish us? The UN?
>>
>>34736606
They do but its probably because we've been fighting people who aren't bound by the Geneva Convention
>>
>>34736606
medics are too important to do retarded door kicking, but currently the terrorists like to target medics instead of capturing them to treat their wounded.
>>
Well yeah, they're combat medics. If you're not armed then you're a liability.
>>
Medics do not serve the same purpose as the red cross in WW2. Dustoff units dont have armed helicopters, thats about as close as it gets.
>>
>>34736606
Pardon me.
>*Not* technically banned
Sorry for the mistype
>>
>>34736606
They carry rifles, they have usually always been armed but their duties delegate combat to self defense. Meaning they would usually only be issued weapons suitable for self defense that won't get in the way of their duties I.E. pistols. Now they get carbines, they would get a better PDW if they would adopt one.
>>
>>34736606
It doesn't say they aren't allowed to carry weapons, it just says the other side isn't allowed to shoot them if they don't. If the enemy doesn't care about that then there's no reason not to carry a weapon.
>>
>>34736606
I don't think anyone has had unarmed medics since WWII or Korea. We realized that nobody we were gonna fight plays by the rules so we dropped them.
>>
>>34736606
You can't go on the offence if you're under the red cross, you can protect yourself even tho you're not supposed to get shot at if you are under the protection of the red cross.
However combat medics are primary an offensive soldier, with the role of a medic. Also the right to defend yourself/others will always go above any convention.
>>
>>34736649
Thats why I said "It doesnt technically ban them"
>>
are they alike to the healers in video games?
>>
>>34736606
Soldier first medic second.

Do you really think they are just going to sit their with their thumb up their ass waiting for someone to get injured?
>>
>>34736662
I'm asking because some Marines were trying to talk me out of the Army by saying "Lol the medics dont even carry guns unlike our Corpsman"
Stupid fucking niggers

In regiment yes they do carry rifles with a full combat load but usually arent tasked with kicking in doors and the like, as they are more valuable and dont need to be risked
>>
>>34736662
No that was my company commander
>>
>>34736606
having an unarmed medic is about as dead as people lining up politely in a line to shoot each other. you might as well make a rule that everyone has to wash their hands before they go to war.

Only way to prevent unarmed medics from getting shot would be dressing them in some neon colours and even that wouldn't prevent them from getting shelled to hell.
Also enemy would just laugh when seeing one medic and no enemies because they know where to put artillery.

Also
Does medics really have more health?

Just Marines being jealous of the Army

Maybe if you stopped spending your fundings on crayons and buttplugs you would get cool shit like the army!
>>
>>34736660
More like battle clerics since they have the same combat abilities as a rifleman.

>Do modern day American Combat Medics carry rifles? I hear in the geneva convention they arent technically allowed but also technically banned from it.
yes, it's so the medic can defend himself and his patient
>If they do, do they do the same door kicker shit as any other soldier would.
yes and no. generally the medic is attached to the platoon sergeant at the hip. so he's not gonna be doing shit unless the psg is in the mix. but medics aren't allowed to carry grenades; frags or non-lethals; or operate any weapon system that would be considered "offensive;" crew served systems and mg's.
>Specifically the 75th Rangers
ranger medics have the same SOP as a regular combat medic. the only medical that would not follow conventional standards would be special forces. most of the 18d dudes were dmr guys for their team.
>>
>>34736606
>>34736617
Armed medics, using their weapons offensively, are not afforded the protection offered by the Geneva Conventions.

But that doesn't make it a war crime. Its just a choice you make to sacrifice those protections or not, and in recent wars where the enemy doesn't respect Conventions it makes sense to make the choice they did.

The only time it DOES become a warcrime is if they present under the Red Cross, Red Crescent or Red Crystal because these are specifically to be used by non-combatants. Even then you can still defend yourself and your patients with weapons, just not go on the offensive.

dude that just means they want you to be their medic <3

Medic here. Don't listen to any of the "supposed to have" bs. You're getting an A2 (m4 if in a high speed unit) only and you'll fight until someone gets hurt.

This didn't get the recognition it deserved. Combat medics are combatants. Something like the Red Cross is not.
>>
>>34736827
I love my Docs to hell and back but saying they're as good as an 11 at 11 shit is almost as bad as saying an 11 is as good as a Doc since he took CLS. The docs can fight, just not as well, and their not supposed to, they got more important shit to do
>>
docs in battalion stick with the psg until there are casualties. most of the time they never shoot ever
>>
>>34742871
you mean on the objective right?

Medics go through all training cycles still?
>>
>>34736606
Combat medics can be armed.

However, if these medics then don the red cross, they are not allowed to fight and the other side is not allowed to attack them. So basically, a medic could leave his rifle in his foxhole, put the red cross on, move into no-mans land and dish out some medicus.

How it works in practice however, is yet to be tested.
>>
>>34742900
not really. they provide med coverage during things like the shoothouse but medics dont do bd6 training or any other clearance related training.

its just not possible to be a master at all of it until youre at the cag level
>>
>>34741714
What prevents them from being as capable?
>>
>>34743311
they do their own training

Think of it this way

Medics should consider their rifle part of their trauma kit

They can treat you but they are also in the practice of "preventative medicine."

Are they the red cross? No? Fuck off then
>>
Any medical personnel/vehicle will lose their protected status under Geneva if they have a weapon. However. Geneva only matters if we're are fighting a force that is also a member of Geneva, which is never. When I was in Afghanistan I carried a rifle and a pistol every mission. Sometimes I'd swap with my gunner and man the 240 for some missions. Nobody we fight these days cares about Geneva so whatever. It's essential for line medics to have weapons anyway. Until someone gets hurt , you are still a soldier who can shoot and kill. Or you may have to defend a casualty.

t. Army medic

P.s. - fuck hajis. Fucking terrorist faggots
>>
>>34736639
But they will have armed escort helicopters providing security
>>

What keeps a pitcher from having a great RBI?
>>
>>34742915
no shit.

wow i didn't know that. So if I were to ever make it past RASP/SOCM, I wouldn't do cool guy shit?
>>
>>34745709
depends on what you define cool guy shit as my dude.

i cant give you too many details but kicking down doors isnt the only cool thing you can do in regiment, and especially with the current state of the war you can even end up doing much cooler deployments as a medic
>>
>>34736606
Everyone in the army is issued a rifle. Even the Chaplains have to qualify with their rifle. This isn't to say that they are going on missions to kill people or anything like that. But every soldier is required to be useful in that sense.
>>
>>34745722
s'all good man.

Secondary question, in the event that I just hated being a medic for whatever reason, could I switch to 11b? It is classified as a secondary MOS yes?
>>

>Secondary question, in the event that I just hated being a medic for whatever reason, could I switch to 11b?
technically, yes. but you shouldn't do it. if you want to be a grunt be a grunt. if you want to be a medic be a medic. don't go into medical without a desire to be medical.
>>
>>34746208
Of course, I'm just autistic and overthink everything too much.

Did you ever meet any guys in Batt working on their degree? I only ask because I'm enlisting halfway through school, and it'd be great to finish up the last 2 years while I'm in. I understand it is a metric fuckton of information, so I'm not making any rash decisions.
>>
>>34746288
no chance. youll have stretches during the training cycle where you work 17 days no weekends, or 5 days on with only time off to sleep.

once you go staff or you quit the line you can get it finished
>>
>>34736606
The medic in your picture has a rifle...
>>
>>34746588
Good to go.

I'm sure I have other questions, but you're probably a busy guy. Thanks for the responses, take care my dude.
>>
>>34746866
So if you're turning 26 what are the odds, as a paramedic, of enlisting and becoming a hospital corpsman all greenside and shit, and not some fag working as a clerk, or worse, medical command nurses bitch in DC or some shit
>>
>>34746959

Friend of mine was a medic in rangers, said him and another guy were tasked with carrying a ladder all over Afghanistan, as far as I know they still armed themselves.
>>
A buddy of mine was a combat medic in the 75th. Man earned his Ranger Tab and his Ranger scroll. He kicked in his share of doors and did SOCOM shit. He keeps up to date on both his shooting skills and his medical skills. He is as much a shooter as any Ranger and as much a Doc as any medic.

It the third recognized emblem, also called the Red Lozenge or Red Diamond.

Its basically just the non-religious symbol
for when that matters and can more easily be combined with other logos such as in the version the Israeli Magen David Adom uses when abroad.

Pic Related. The Crystal, and the Red Crystal with a logo in it. The Red Star of David is the MDA logo, obviously,.
>>
>>34736606
Cousin is a navy coreman. He carries an m4, I guess all the other dudes in his squad are jealous because theyre stuck with m16a3s. So yes, they carry rifles. Arguably better rifles than the rest of the troops.
