I went to the biggest gun shop/club in my region in order try a few 9mm pistols. I asked if they had a walther PPQ and the lady startled at me, like if I said something totally stupid. She started laughing with her collegues, saying they don't sell crap and only sell good pistols. She said for the price you pay for a walther, you can get something better. They also said they are more competition focused so they mostly sell high end pistols.

I was confused because well...their pistols were pretty standard. They had USPs, P30s, CZs, Tanfoglio, P320, Glocks, P226/227, shit load of 1911s. They only had 1 walther Q5 match like pic related but said she wpuldn't recommend it to me.

Are they right? Are Walthers this shitty?
>>
No I have a Walther PPQ and its really good
Thats a shitty gunstore OP
>>
>>34733444
Sounds like a shitty store to me. PPQ is by most accounts one of the best poly framed handguns on the market.
>>
>>34733444
Very shitty gun store. Get a walther. Buy one online and dont go back.
>>
>>34733444
The only Walther I'd buy would be a P99. I was not impressed with my PPQ and it had a number of issues. That said, it's just as likely that I could have had those issues with a purchase from any manufacturer. I'm just not interested in another PPQ, it isn't the end-all-be-all gun that people make it out to be and it's trigger, while nice, is overrated.

However, having said that the shop sounds like a bunch of nit-wit assholes who just want to sell you what they want to sell you. I wouldn't give them a dime if that's how they were going to treat you. They should listen to what you want and not what they think you should want instead.
>>
>>34733444
Sounds like a shitty store, Walther is a pretty well made gun for the most part. was this a store where 90% of the stock were glocks and generic ARs im guessing
>>
>>34733462
>>34733472
>>34733476
>>34733495
It's the only "real" gun store in the whole region, like the closest other gun store is a few hours by car. I think what they meant is that they focus more on competition guns but then again, they had all kinds of glocks so not really sure what was their problem with Walther...
>>
>>34733444
Not as bad as they made it sound. This might come as a surprise, but most gun store owners don't know shit about guns. They usually only have that one guy that knows his stuff.
The owners are either
>people that only sell deer furniture
Or
>the kind of people that'll put a bayonet on their glock and call you retarded for wanting a gun model that's not from this decade.

The cologne proofed ones do have some problems (ccp and p22) but anything ulm is a solid gun. out of the thousands of rounds through my 9mm, the only problem I've ever had was when I was breaking in the jarvis barrel so I can hardly blame walther for that. honestly, when you get to wonder 9s, as long as its from a reputable manufacturer, its all personal preference.
>>
>>34733444

She's not wrong about them being a bit overpriced for what they are but other than that she sounds like an idiot, Walthers aren't crap, it's a shitty gunstore either way and you should find one that will order you what you want if they don't have it.

I have a similar story, OP
>Go to LGS
>approach counter
>a gruff man greets me,"what can I do you for?"
>"I-I w-would like a Walther p-please", I utter
>suddenly the man begins laughing
>"What are you?! A sissy?"
>at this point I had wet myself
>"p-p-people online s-said i-it was g-good..."
>my stuttering was becoming uncontrollable
>the man grabbed the store's phone
>pressing the intercom function, he then yells "come out of the back, guys. We got us one of those 'walther' pansies"
>employees begin streaming into the display room
>they hurl insults and laughter at me
>soon they began tossing liquids and garbage as well
>they chanted "Walther tramp!" in unison
>I ran out the door unable to take anymore abuse
>underwear soiled with my own urine and defecation
All in all, could have been worse. Went back the next day to buy a Glock at 20% premium.
>>
>>34733566
But what about USPs? Aren't they overpriced too or are they really that good?
>>
>>34733522
I don't care if you asked for a Taurus. Laughing in your customers' faces when they ask for a product usually isn't the best business practice. Just saying.

>>34733444
Idiots.

Walther's reputation is recovering from the dark period (late 90's-mid 00's iirc). The PPQ and PPS are very solid. I'm fickle and tend to buy and sell a lot of pistols. Can't seem to let go of my PPS classic. Apparently the M2 has a nicer trigger but I just love mine. Probably picking up a PPQ before the $100 rebate deal ends on 9/15.
>>
>>34733599
I dunno. I just got a USP after wanting one for a long time, and I'm honestly pretty disappointed. My Sig has a much better trigger and was about the same price, and something about the HK just feels... Cheap. Especially at its price point. It's probably gonna get sold for something else pretty quick.
>>
>>34733444
No. Even if they were this was very unprofessional.

>>34733444

>>
Walther is not a bad company. They had a rough spot in manufacturing and QC in the 90s, but they are well past that now. The PPQ is one of my favorite pistols. Think Glock with real ergonomics and a good trigger. That's really all they are. They're a nice middle of the road gun that's gonna last if you do your part. Go ahead and grab one of you want. Make your own opinions on it.
>>
They carry a pistol and wouldn't recommend it to a customer? Good work retards.

The way to buy guns is thus, OP:

Walk into store.

Say "I am looking for [exact model], do you have one?"

If they don't, thank them and leave, or buy ammo, or whatever. If they do and the price is reasonable, buy it.

Counter personnel are not your friends. Their goal is to maximize profit margin, to or sell you whatever has the best manufacturer spiff this week. Not to be honest with you.

Ruger and Smith were spiffing the LCP and Shield hard when I bought my G26, so I had both of those guns thrust at me before it dawned on the counter guy that either he could sell me a G26 or I was leaving.

You just have to cleave through it sometimes. You can't get angry with them, it's their job. Something like "No, I'm looking specifically for X - that's a nice gun though." is usually enough to get a gun store guy on the same page. They'd rather have some of your money than none.

Remember, you probably know more than they do, but their average customer is a complete dipshit so that's what they'll assume about everyone who comes in the door.
>>
Shitty gun store experiences thread?

I went into an MC Sports once and asked for PMags. The guy scoffed and said not to use the "plastic junk" and showed me some GI mags.
>>
>>34733551
hey burt, questionerino

The PPQ barrels work in the P99, but not vice-versa, right? I think the PPQ's require more clearance on the trigger bar?
>>
>>34734161
This.

I went in a while back looking for a G19 and was bombarded by nearly every employee insisting the Canick was the gun I wanted. Even being told "this is the gun you want". Yes, that's the gun I want........to shove down your throat. Don't tell a customer what they want unless they ask for your opinion.
>>
Oldest marketing trick in the book.
>don't have something
>offer something else instead
When dealing with hobbyist type shit, it's very common to add in
>"now why would you want that anyway, when the stuff I just so happen to have is better :^)"
It doesn't matter what particular gun you were asking for, if they don't have it, it's garbage. Everything they DO have is creme de la creme, obviously.
>>
>>34733444
If your gun store was any good they would of just asked if you wanted them to order one in for you. The sounds like a bunch of pricks. People buy guns for all kinds of reasons, not just for performance.

All of you shop at Gander or something. There is no insidious agenda for selling a sponsored brand in a LGS. We carry what people buy, order what people ask for, and move sales and trade-ins. If something isn't in stock and literally on display in glass cases then 1. it was popular and bought out temporarily 2. it was shit that nobody bought. I don't recommend people EDC a Hi Point, but people buy the hell out of C9's so they stay in the rotation. The people that want a specific model already know what they want and have researched it to death so you just facilitate the sale or transfer. With Gun Genie sometimes people place orders and then never show back up. Those can be returned or just placed on sale after a certain amount of time. Usually I give deals on those and it's a win-win because that person never reclaims their deposit. The only ones specifically not stocked are ones that we don't want to see back in the shop in a week with broken parts (*SCCY*)

So the PPQ gets ordered plenty, because it's a good pistol at a reasonable price. The same with Rugers, and Glocks, and the occasional Sig. If it feels like something is "being crammed down your throat" then maybe learn how to have a decent conversation and explain what you're actually interested in. If you want to order that one exact model, say so instead of pissing around the counter and twiddling your thumbs. If you want "X cheap poly 9mm compact" but there's only Y and Z, that's all we can show you and we try the next closest thing to what you want. Most people don't even know about some of the brands like EAA and Diamondback and are surprised with them.

>>34733599
The USP has a lot of circlejerkers for the same reason the Python does: its prevalence in popular media. Both are indeed good guns, but are they demonstrably head and shoulders above all of the less expensive competition in terms of real world use? Is either gun worth the higher MSRP plus the other significant additional costs of ownership ($50 standard magazines + highly limited aftermarket for the USP and a lack of replacement parts and qualified gunsmiths for the Python)?
>>
>>34733444
Either they're retarded and dont know shit about guns (very possible ), or they didn't want you to buy the last walther. Either way I would find a different funstore.
>>
Find a transfer dealer and buy a PPS or PPQ from CDNN for cheaper than anywhere and then get the $100 rebate so you can get the pistol for under $400 net.
>>
>>34735725
I don't think either of those examples is entirely fair. The Python is only as expensive as it is BECAUSE of the fact it is discontinued, and it IS that good of a gun. The USP is as good as it is because it's overbuilt, it's a 10mm gun downsized to a .40 S&W gun and further downsized to a 9mm gun. It's that expensive because the gun has that much work put into it, there still aren't many 9mm pistols as thicc as a full-sized USP9. The USPc, P2000, and P30 are successive attempts to bring down costs. The prices don't change but that's H&K's fault, not the USP. Similarly, the fact the USP line hasn't been updated to take advantage of how standardized the aftermarket industry has become is H&K's fault, not the gun.
TL;DR the guns are definitely head and shoulders above other guns and the reason they're expensive as they are is because no expense was spared.

Okay trigger reset is only 0.1" - that is not long at all. The trigger travel is a little long because it is essentially a single action striker fired pistol. If the long trigger travel is a bother there is always the apex trigger drop in kit but the stock trigger is better than most.

Even if Walthers were shit-tier, it's pretty shitty of a worker to laugh at a customer for asking about them.
>>
>>34742402
Nothing wrong with a USP40 ya dingus, it's the original cartridge the gun was designed for.
>>
Walthers a pretty patrician choice. there might be better guns out there but ive never met someone who had a walther who was a douche/mall ninja/autist/tacticoolio type. they were all pretty mature and well rounded
>>
>>34733462
Any store that treats their customers like that is shitty. That's not how you behave when someone is giving you hundreds of dollars. Or ever, really; if you're going to snicker you do it in the back room after persuading your idiot customer to buy something better.
>>
>>34733541
This.
I hate like 80% of the gun stores I go to for this reason. Only a couple times have I met gun store employees that weren't total fudds or tactical larping faggots.
>>
>>34747073
Im lucky enough to have one LGS that covers both ends of that spectrum, the others are tacticool startups where they only have ARs and lots of stupid crap for ninjas and theres one that specializes for hunting and expensive bolt guns
>>
>>34747121
I came across one the other day that was pretty much a gold mine as far as LGS are concerned. It's called plantation iron in Bluffton SC. The guys are retired gun smiths and overall just level headed and cool as shit. Not overly fuddy and not total mall ninjuh tnk u 4 it cervix types.
They are actually pretty similar to Ian and Karl.
Had a pretty badass Luger last time I was there too.

What happened?

This program isn't an employee discount program, those are usually 30-60% off retail.
I'm talking about a rewards program where the salesman is given free guns for selling certain manufactures.
Sig is starting theirs soon, go into a gun store in a month or so and most will be pushing sig.
>>
>>34733444
Actually tested this gun out at the range today just to see what's up. Was an excellent gun, especially the trigger, and had zero issues with the 100 rounds I put through it.

Sounds about right. Thanks for making me feel more comfortable with buying online. I know that's gotta sting.

yeah she's just trying to fit in with their opinions
walthers are fine, they are retards.
>>
>>34733444

So, she's right, but they didn't have to be dicks about it. Either way if it steered you away from throwing too much money at a glock with lightening cuts, then the ends justify the means.

Just get a glock if you need a polymer lower.

Or any 1911 with a forged frame if you need a steel gun. You'll be much happier in the long run.

Recently acquired the Walther Q5 Match. The gun is quite accurate for a striker-fired polymer pistol, has the wonderful trigger, and no malfunctions or hiccups. Just slapped a Burris FastFire III I had kicking around using the Docter sight plate that came with the pistol. I'll be taking it to a steel challenge match on Satuday. I expect to do nearly as well shooting the Q5 Match for the first time out as I do with my SIG 320 RX (GrayGuns trigger and guide rod, smooth shooter!). Don't listen to those assholes in the gun store. Walther makes top quality firearms.

I actually had an experience not entirely dissimilar.

I had gone into a local gun shop, more or less window shopping, and I asked to see a PPQ. For whatever reason, the salesperson was hesitant, insisting that I should look at a VP9 or P320 instead, or even a Glock 19.

I assume the shitty US P99s in .40S&W. The P88 was a good but too expensive gun, the P99 first gen is excellent despite minor quirks (useless slide serrations and proprietary rail).
>>
>>34752253
That's because you're a fucking faggot.

This.

First time I bought a gun they jewed me into getting a Franchi Instinct L for trap. And I listened and bought it. Heard the lady celebrating that she finally sold it as I left. 1 year later and the gun fails to come off safe 50% of the time, and I can't do anything about it but fix it because it's an automatic safety.

Should have just bought the Ithaca NID

nice digits.

that gunstore sounds like a bunch of fuckheads. I've been to a few like that, is it ran by some old folks as a way for them to buy and sell Class-3 stuff and to get shit at cost? because there is one by me that does that and is a GIANT Springfield shill, and has since B@ me from the premises after the whole Springfield and RRA fiasco.

besides they want to be dicks about it, fuck them, go somewhere that arent fucking filthy plebs.

where is the greasey sebacious skinned slightly overweight girl femdoming you in her muddy girl tshirt and wrangler jeans for THICC GRILLS? where is the foot grinding against the crotch and facial farting bit?

i feel cheated.
>>
>>34735009
what holster do you carry the ppq in? What way?

I want one over the PPS, but the PPQ seems a bit big...
>>
>>34752511
I'd take ppq over the p99 any day. 3 trigger pulls is one too many

>what the fuck is the point?
some people like to shoot more than one caliber.
>>
>>34733444
The fact that they willingly sell glocknades to people but shit all over their customers when they want something that actually is good, proves that they're fucking worthless.
