It looks like a Colt Model 1900. Look for paperwork and yes, post the writing on the side of the gun.

It's very likely a Colt Pocket Hammer and in what appears to be fairly good condition externally. I'd hold onto it because the 1903 is a fairly neat piece of history and not a bad shooting pistol.
