XTPs have their place. They penetrate better than HST/GDs even if they don't expand as much. A fully open HP that doesn't hit a vital isn't very good, is it?
Also, the XTPs have a larger velocity window. I carry XTPs for 10mm because it's too fast for GD/HSTs that were designed with .40 in mind. Max XTP velocity is 1200 FPS and my 10mm launches them at about 1250 FPS. It's just barely outside the expansion envelope so the deleterious effect of speed is minimized.

I got an LCP2 and I hate shooting it. With Fiocchi 95 grain .380 it fucking snaps my hand so hard and it feels like no matter how tight I hold it it still sucks to shoot. When I use my carry ammo, Federal Hydroshock 90 grain JHP, it doesn't recoil as bad, but it's more expensive. Is there any good lower recoil .380 I can practice with?

I like carrying this thing more than my glock 19, but I want to learn to enjoy shooting it as well. I don't like carrying a gun that I don't shoot often.

XTP is the only bullet that reliably expands AND penetrates in micro 380s you idiot. Other bullets try to mimic the expansion of 9mm which makes it lose too much energy to penetrate or they just don't expand at all.

When I first got my LCP I just death-gripped it for a couple days while sitting or watching TV. Made my hand raw as hell but eventually the calluses negated any pain from shooting. I can see pain being a problem if you have bony hands though in which case theres probably not much you can do other than getting a hogue grip sleeve.

Polycase makes some cheap 380 ammo for plinking. Might not be the best for serious practice since the recoil is significantly lower than carry ammo but it's good if you actually want to have some fun shooting your 380.

Get a Glock 42 instead, or a sig p238

The 42 is one of the softest recoiling center fire guns around. It's a bit bigger and heavier than an lcp 2 but well worth it. You'll go from hating mouse gun range time to loving it in short order. Don't bother with the 43, it's kinda snappy as well. 42 ftw

Only thing I struggle with it on is that it is right on the fence for being too big to pocket carry. And I always think to myself if I'm going to iwb, why not a more substantial gun. That being said I still carry it more than my doublestacks because of the width and weight. If I get a single stack in 9mm or a smaller mouse gun for the pocket I'm not sure how much I'll still carry the 42

I havent had a lot of range time with mine, but I put 100 rounds of the Hornady XTP 90gr (american gunner box) and while it wasnt a fun range toy it was acceptable for a small mouse gun. Better than the original LCP was.

The 100 rounds of 95gr fmj PMC snapped and recoiled way worse fwiw.

I also put talon grips on it before I even took it to the range.

This is what my problem with the 42 is
For its size, might as well get the 43 (or some other single stack 9)

If I was going to compromise down to a .380, its got to be small enough for easy and discrete pocket carry to justify it. My Shield 9 can pocket carry, but its pretty shit for it. Carrying the LCP2 in the pocket is no comparison
