Why does no one make gas-delayed blowback rifles?

You need to be able to operate the gun without burning your hands.

because you're still drilling a hole in the barrel.
The closer the gas port is to the chamber the faster the hole erodes.
Gas cycling is already a delay, don't be autistic.

Because they would be unreliable, and when they failed, it would involve the uncontrolled release of a lot of very hot gas under a lot of pressure.
Because what you are doing is make a gas buffer for a blowback gun. It is still shoving you around like a blowback gun, but without kicking you.
Because there is no market for the VG1-5.

Pity about that, could a VG 1-5 like gun be made from an AKM receiver from the magwell back, and have a new front trunnion, underslung guide rail riveted to the receiver through the front trunnion, a new slide/bolt with its return spring and endcap, and a rear endcap that is secured between the rear trunnion and the selector switch. Make sure the barrel has a fluted chamber, and that the gas ports are right ahead of the gas rings.

Not necessarily.
