Most French guns are good. Manurhin revolvers are some of the best six guns ever made. The MAS 49/56 is also a really good rifle unless Century has Bubbafucked them into .308

Wikipedia says the French conversions to .308 were fine. I wonder what the fuck Century did.

I really don't know, but they have a terrible reputation among guys who collect French guns. Still, it's Century, so buyer beware anyways.

St-Etienne was the last state owned company to go under, but there's been plenty of others before that, not to mention private companies. Gun laws pushed by socialists and communists (yes, the litteral communist party), mostly those of 1995 and 1998, destroyed the private market, and thus many companies like Manurhin had no choice but to shut down.
Not that cuckservatives are any better, the 2012 gun law was voted by both socialists and "right wingers". (Although they were only 4 guys voting in an empty assembly, late at night, hurray for "democracy"). There is no real right wing in France, and there hasn't been since De Gaulle. All of them are authoritarian socialists and want private ownership of firearms banned altogether. All of them.
Now that Macron has enshrined the state of emergency into common French law, prefincts have supreme authorities over us peasants and can take away all of our weapons at any time without any legal process or any justification. Guess what's going to happen next?

Dear god, this better be bait
>>
>>34721371
>fugging gommies D:
The private firearm market in France is 95% 22lr carbines and hunting rifles, so the change made by the gun laws had a limited effect. Some people gave away their guns when they needed registration, but most still have them, either registreded, or illegally but tolerated because nobody gives a fuck. Hell, in my village, everyone's armed while hunting and shooting licenses are rare, and most people even shoot in their backyards.
Plus, the 2013 laws actually made it easier to get many milsurp weapons (bolt actions in original calibres), the conditions to own pistols, semi autos haven't changed, and pump action shotguns require authorization but aren't banned anymore.

The real problem about French gun laws isn't what you:re allowed to own, but what you're allowed to do. No self defence, no shooting outside of gun ranges, no carrying.

And the right wing and free market politics killed the French weapon industry. Privatisation of the military manufacturers, coupled with the austerity related budget cuts in the defense budget, sank the French military industry. In fact, its golden age was in the 50s to 70s, when everything was state owned, under a common agreement between the conservative Gaullists and the back then strong Communist Party.
>>
>>34721382
Retard award.
>>
>>34721430
Oh yeah, Marie George Buffet totally didn't create the gun laws of 1995, she wasn't the one who made it mandatory to have a license to own a gun, she wasn't the one who pushed the 3 controlled shooting sessions a year, she wasn't the one who made us need an authorization for semi-auto rifles in civilian calibers that up until then were completely unregulated and didn't need registration. She didn't say "there are too many guns in private hands in France". Yeah, it totally wasn't the fault of the communist party. Bruno Le Roux and Bernard Cazeneuve aren't socialists either, and one isn't so corrupt he had to resign, he didn't write a book about how he has been wanting to ban all guns for the last 20 years too.

Oh wow, the state and the communist party are actually our friends, never realised that!

The latest gun law was made in 2012, not 2013, and you're obviously only showing the bright side of it "hurr muh nugget!". Never mind that shotguns that aren't semi-auto now need to be registered and stored in a safe, never mind that suppressors and magazines are now regulated, never mind that magazines with a capacity over 30 for rifles and 20 for handguns are banned, never mind that weapons can be put in a tighter category or banned as will simply with an amendement, and that's how guns such as revolving carbines went from category C to category B in a matter of days afer the first ones were imported.
Shit, those laws are actually a blessing, aren't they? Never mind that they banned all guns that are belt fed, like only a month ago.
And with the EU gun ban, that has been largely pushed by France, Cazeneuve and Le Roux pressuring the EU comission with "muh victims of terrorism" as the bodies of the Bataclan weren't even cold, voted by socialists, communists and greens, who said that this is a right step even though it isn't going far enough because they want everything banned.

Swiss guy here, when I look at France's politics, it always struck me that it seems absolutely everyone is authoritarian, that your only choice is either a leftie who wants to control your life or a rightie to control your life.

Where the fuck is the option for freedom? Why the fuck is France so authoritarian when it has done nothing for you other than erode your rights, fuck your economy and draw in crime and terrorism? It even chipped away at your culture! Your government's desire to centralise has almost entirely killed off what once was a fantastic diversity of local dialects and languages, and replaced it with the truck driving sort of diversity.

They needed authoritarian centralism to kill off monarchism and the Church (and it still took over a century). The fact that our neighbors jumped on the occasion to try and gut us every generation or so actually made things easier by providing an external enemy. WW1 was pretty much the nail in the coffin.

>>34724649
Local dialects were probably more affected by technical progress (industrialization, railroads, radio) than political will (conscription and schooling), but it's not as sexy. Although it's true that in Brittany the Church pushed French through catechism somewhat early, but then again French had been the administrative language of the Duchy for centuries since most of their population lived in the French-speaking part (reminder that Rennes and Nantes have never been at any point in time Breton-speaking, but have been seized by Breton dukes over the Franks during the end of the Carolingian empire).

also this. Self defense with weapons, including firearms, is very regulated in France but far from impossible. What makes it borderline impossible is the lack of carrying rights though. Even for a simple knife.

That's a french navy Famas G2. 1990. New polymer body with less glass fiber, big trigger guard to fire with gloves, USGI/AR15 compatible magwell as well as FNH high reliability magazines, and 1:9" twist rate barrel to stabilise both 55 and 62 grain ammo.

A few were exported.

>>34727128
The Famas felin is far from being "cancelled". It's pretty much everywhere alongside its little brother the famas valorisé "low profile" with two rails on top. You can this one a lot in recent video games. Their only common point is their new Berreta-made 1:7" twist rate barrel with which they can finally fire M855.

>Nigga, a Sig550 is like 1000€ more compared to 2 years ago where I live

That's true, but that's just SAN SwissArms being stupid. They raised it that much in a single day.

>I occasionally see Europeans doing military reenactments (like >>34729079). How do Europeans get antique military firearms? Do any European countries make a distinction between "modern" guns and "antique" guns, like the US does? If I was French, and I wanted a Lebel, how would I find one? Just go to my local gun shop and hope they have WWI stuff?

Up until a few years ago, stuff like a 98K or SMLE were all "free to own" without permits, as long as you had no ammo for it.
Now you do need a permit. Thanks stupid politicians.

The only shit which remains without a permit is original black powder guns.

If the gun is an original and it was made before 1900, it is freely accessible to any adult purchaser.
If the gun is a modern reproduction of a model anterior to 1900 and it does not use metallic cartridges (ie:muskets), it's freely accessible to any adult purchaser.

If the gun is an original made after 1900, it requires a license.
If the gun is a modern reproduction of a gun made before 1900 and uses metallic cartridges, it requires a license.

So :
An original Lebel 1886 modèle 93 will not require a license.
A reproduction of a Winchester 1873 will.

Fascinating, thank you! Where do you find pre-1900 guns? Are Lebels, Berthiers, etc. common enough that you kind find them in your local gun store? In the US there's a number of online stores that carry surplus stuff, is there a French (or European in general) equivalent?

All my local gun stores have closed years ago... Thankfully we have our own websites for that stuff.

It's not the time when it was made that counts, but the time when it was designed.
Example : a Swedish Mauser was designed in 1896, meaning it is unregulated, even if the one you're buying was made in 1905.

There are several exceptions to this too. Every gun that is from the Berthier, SMLE or G98 system require a license, even though they were obviously designed and produced before 1900.

You could find them in gun shops, but it's really random. Your best best is Naturabuy

The frogs actually straight-up rebuilt them with new barrel assemblies. The monkeys at Century chopped the barrels down, drilled out new chambers, and then chopped the hand guards down an equal length so that they fit. Not joking.

I had a Mab model D in .32 acp. It came with some funky aftermarket plastic grips with a stupid thumb rest, but I found the correct grips on Numrich.

It was a fine little plinker, it would print 3" groups at 50 feet, and held target with mag dumps.

I'm now sorry I traded it.
>>
>>34737731
The funky plastic trips are often standard with French pistols. The Unique line often had stock plastic trips which looked like ugly gold bowling balls.
>>

Grips... Grrrrrr
>>
>>34737776
>ugly gold bowling balls.

Ha! The grips the Mab came with looked like a grey-black swirl bowling ball. I think the importer put them on for some reason. When I got the proper stock grips, I think I just threw the old ones away, and I never do that.

If ARPAC is seriously the only pro-gun and self-defense organization in France, and they only have 5k followers on Twitter, then you guys are seriously fucked. Do Europeans have a boot-licking fetish or something?

They're not all disasters. I guess I lucked out as far as I can tell.
It had some minor issues at first with grabbing the next round from the mag, but seems to have worked itself out.

Would an ft-17 be useful for riot control
>>
>>34741583
Maybe?
>>
>>34741583
I don't know the origin of that pic >>34741078, but I'm sure any armored vehicle would be useful for riot control. Even without a machine gun, it would still be a useful platform to throw tear gas grenades or ram the crowd. And, it's small enough to be transported on a truck.
