Any armed Security Guards here?

>How's your night going?
>What are you carrying?
>Any good stories?

I just did the exposed firearm course and I have to wait 2 months to get my license, what can I expect?
>>
>>34711352
>good stories
i mean, you guys are protecting buildings, malls, anything past midnight.
what stories can you guys tell besides ghost moments, drunk people and silent hill?
>>
>>34711404
well, i wasn't armed, but back when i was a security guard i both stopped a robbery and witnessed a sports car get stolen (after my shift was over). everyone has a story, goodness is in the telling.
>>
>>34711415
why did you decide to become a security guard?
do you like to work at night or something?
>>
>>34711352
I was a security guard for about 2 years. It was the most boring job I've ever had. It was nice because I had unlimited free time (on the clock), and I read so many fucking books. The pay was shit, but I was doing a job that a dog or a camera would have been better at than I was.
>>
>>34711404
I found a dead hobo who was murdered with a kitchen knife at a construction site in San Diego
>>
Diplomatic guard here. I carry a P226. Nothing ever happens because I live in a country that's boring as shit.
And I'm glad of it, easy big bucks.
>>
>>34711352
Why would you do that instead of becoming an LEO?
>>
>>34711471
Better money if you do it right, the private sector is leagues ahead of public, and you don't have to deal with the retarded shit that police officers do.
I'm not talking about being-paid-to-breath jobs though.
>>
>>34711471
Well I feel like I'm not yet ready to be an LEO just yet.
>>
>>34711352
>slow night, as per usual on sunday/monday
>glock 23
>yeah, yeah, I know, .40 memes
>it's the only handgun I have a holster for right now
>a myriad choice of knives
>benchmade contigo atm

Not too many cool stories. Only been in this job around 2.5 years. I work mainly as a front desk/employee relations person more than a "security" capacity most of the time, but if the need arises...

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that semi truck drivers (especially forgeiners) are absolutely retarded, save for a few.
I understand they do an important job, but the pure lack of common sense and blatant disregard for clear directions (given by myself) makes me cringe.

Arab truck drivers man... worst offenders.
>>
>>34711519
What hotel do you work at that lets you carry as front desk?
>>
>>34711531
Not a hotel... Obviously I work for a 3rd party security firm, but the location is a well known food production facility.

Don't really want to say where, but honestly if they hired a secretary who could also be in charge of opening gates and watching cameras, that would be just as good.

Pays my bills.
>>
>>34711495
I can definitely underatand the private sector attraction if you're actually doing something productive. To my knowledge most security guards even if armed don't make much. I was under the impression the good money is in personal security for wealthy clients and private events?
>>34711500
Very understandable.
>>
>night going
Boring same as always
>carrying
Mnp 9mm full size
>good stories
Last month a guy got caught jacking off in our squad car

From what I've gathered talking to Americans, the idea of "Security" work means being a mallcop. In other countries it can pay very well, especially when you understand that Nuke, Maritime, Diplomatic, and VIP security are considered Security jobs, and are generally armed.
>>
>>34711620
they look like non descript bad guys that work for an evil corporation. awesome
>>
>>34711620
The US has similar jobs. They're just few and far between. A good friend of mine's father in law is an armed guard at PANTEX, another friend made good money as a VIP guard, but for every one of those there's 20 guys who work for a courier/money service, construction site or parking lot investigator, and venue security.
>>
How would you get into personal security for VIPS in Australia? Anyone have any ideas?
>>
Seriously depends on where you are security at. I worked at the following:

General contracting security company
>spent most of my time at a compute serve building on night shift
>twice a night walked around the whole building and scanned doors
>monitored cameras
>signed in and out the occassional vendor
>spent time at an event center signing in and out staff

College Campus
>vehicle/foot patrol
>do lots or reports on various damages
>gave students rides after dark if they asked
>respond to alarms (fire panel typically)
>issued IDs
>preliminary response to disturbances and call cops if need be
>parking enforcement (ugh)

Hospital
>several different posts, mainly worked ER
>signed in visitors after hours
>deal with OD patients, combative patients, drunks, homeless
>4-point restrained them per doc's orders/immediate safety issues
>lots of reports for use of force
>escort people out if need be
>foot patrol
>lock/unlock doors etc
>good overnight/weekend differential pay

Now I am a cop. Security is very laid back in some ares, very busy in others. All mine were unarmed though.
>>
>>34711620
>Nuke, Maritime, Diplomatic, and VIP security
In america most of that is handled by government agencies, and the rest by pmcs.
>>
>>34711455
I love when those parasites die. I hate the homeless so much. Anyone who becomes homeless is a giant loser.
>>
>>34711471
because

1) dont have to be blue canary
2) dont have to go to ghetto
3) wont get fleas, bedbugs, roaches, or lice from ghetto people.
4) dont have to spend nights in a dipspit smelling, sunflower seed floor convered, nothing works in it ford...and days in a dull as fuck, unaircondition, thousand year old courthouse waiting for a probably drunk judge that doesnt give a fuck to dismiss your case against Johnny the local meth dealer because a witness didnt show up after the 5th time you subpeona'd them due to postponements
5) dont have to deal with asshole liberal mayors demanding shit because "mayor"
6) a billion other great reasons
>>
>>34711352
>what can I expect?

lots of boredom

maybe something will happen

hopefully you will be paying attention & avoid getting fucked up
>>
When I was a student at college I worked for the security team. It was unarmed, and all I did was patrol several buildings once an hour to get a headcount for that section of campus. The rest of the time I did homework or browsed the internet.

>>
>>34712492
thats not the rule though. most of the major security firm have their own security teams for psd and higher priority sites. hell even securitas has their own personal security details
>>
>>34711500
Security will not prepare you for LEO work, I assure you. You will develop bad habits, get very bitter, and probably gain a lot of weight from being so sedentary.

If you want to be a police officer, go be a police officer. Don't get sucked into security work.
>>34711471
It's easy money that supplements my GI Bill stipend while I'm in school. I even get to do homework at some of the sites since there's no one around, and at the others all I have to do is not fall asleep.

That'll teach me to get a combat MOS with no transferable skills.

>hot and balmy
>M&P
I have a few good stories, most involve drunks and drug dealers. My most interesting by far are
>hooker fight
>personally assist in getting a CP distributor arrested
>firefight at the Shoe Show
>man stabs dog at hotel, dog owner gets arrested
I also got constantly hit up by drunk frat guys for cigarettes and rides in my golf cart. It was because I taught them that they couldn't drink bottles outside, but if it was in a cup no one could technically know what they were drinking. It blew their fucking minds for some reason.

If there's any interest in any of these stories just let me know, I don't want to type them all if no one wants to hear them.
>>
>>34715937
Hooker fight sounds like a fun read

Alright
>working at shitty extended stay motel
>guy comes in, immediately peg him for being in the wrong place, as his suit costs more than a room for a month
>heavy German accent
>Is dis (name of place)
>Yessir
>Schize, looks like I, uh, "fucked up"?
>Yep
>give him the security desk number, tell him I'll be here all night
>about 2 hours go by
>black Lexus pulls in
>11/10 blonde gets out, tight black dress, fit as fuck
>comes in the office and asks where (German guy's room number) is
>point to it, me and front desk guy share a look and awkwardly laugh away our boners
>another hour passes and I do my round
>local crack head hooker is roaming around, spots 11/10 exiting German guy's room
>she goes ballistic, starts screaming and waving her arms around like a chimpanzee
>11/10 gets real hood, real quick, immediately takes off her heels
>even barefoot, she's got a good 5 inches on chickenhead
>yell at them because I'm across the lot start to head over
>chickenhead makes her move with a big swing that 11/10 sees coming
>she ducks under it and comes back with a hook that would make a professional boxing coach proud
>grabs chickenheads braids while she's stunned and yanks her to the ground
>straddles her and starts smashing head into the pavement
At this point German guy is on the phone with the cops and standing outside in his underwear and I get to wrestle the blonde because I saw a tooth fly out of the other girl's mouth. She doesn't fight me, but jumps in her car and peels out while I'm making sure chickenhead isn't choking on her own blood. Ambulance takes chickenhead to the hospital, cops are highly amused by my account.

As a 23y/o 5'9" 150lb DYEL with only a high school education is it possible to get a security job?

What kind of job would it be? Would I be allowed to carry?
>>
>>34716586
Just go to a company and apply. They'll usually put you through your unarmed licensure, and stick you at a relatively easy, low traffic area to start out. Get your armed, and they'll put you elsewhere.

In the 3 years I've been doing security I've worked at
>banks
>hotels
>strip malls
>medical lab
>chemical depots
>office buildings
>gas stations
>parking decks
>parking lots
>cell phone tower
>construction sites
>grocery stores
All of these have ranged from easy, boring places to nerve wracking shit holes.

I'm about your size and have never had problems, because if you're getting hands on as security guard you did something wrong. You're a deterrent, and are only to observe and report. Depending on your state of course, some guards have powers of arrest in some states. Mine does not.
>>
>>34711352
It seems like you just want to carry a gun around with you wherever you go. I'd suggest conceal carrying in the safety of your probably-less-shit neighborhood and holding down a better job, rather than being paid shit money to carry a gun around a shit ghetto
>>
>>34711352
Is the job really just sitting around all day? I could get into it if that's true

In metro Detroit all college campuses and Hospitals have actual police forces. Deputized, powers of arrest and juisdiction well into the surrounding communities. Good luck getting a comfy University or community college officer position without several years on a municipal police force, or some seriously good connections.

23yo bar/club 'security' here. Generally carry an m&p9c concealed.
Most recent cool story
>pretty slow night, sporadically chatting with couple of 22yo qt's at the bar
>Edwin about 30 sits next to them, awkwardly hits on them but not too vulgar
>Girls fuck with him for a little while then come to me and say he grabbed their vagina.
>know they're likely lying for attention, but I bite anyway
>"hey bud do me a favor and find a new part of the bar"
>Edwin rees, goes on a rant how he's not going to move and how he's "combat trained"
>He try's to fight, I hit him once, then choke him against the wall.
>He gave up about the time he got put on the wall but I choke him unconscious anyway.
>Me and a couple bros drag him outside, wake him up, he try's to play the victim
>Tell him to shut up and leave
>go back to the bar have a couple shots, leave early to fuck one of the qt's on a park bench
>...twice
>Meanwhile edwin came back, said he was terrorize the bar
>Leaves nasty voice mail and bad yelp review

>>34720862
Similar question. 5'6 turbo /fit/ manlet here would i be less likely to be hired due to manlet status considering security is more about deterrence and greater height obviously looks more imposing?
>>
>>34720862
It's super useful, I hire big men as a preference because most people won't fuck with a goddamn giant. Put someone like you in a XL plate carrier with "SECURITY" on it and stand you outside and I swear I've seen people in a beat to shit hoopty cruse past to case the place and never come back.

You might want to do personal security rather then site. Bodyguard work pays well and there's an endless thirst of big men for it, but it's fucking annoying work because you work for a client that has no idea what your job entails and can fire you in a moment if you bother them by trying to do your job.

Note that you will get used as the staking goat, with the idea that idiots will spot the big guy and go for you first. Just make sure the rest of the team has your back and you aren't being hung out to attract idiots without support.
>>
>>34721438

It's more like you don't have a special gift. I'd hire a big man with a room temperature IQ and shitty reflexes if he can be a good scarecrow as long as he's basically professional and reliable. You'd have to be professional, reliable and smart enough to handle yourself without supervision after your probation period.
>>
>>34721438
You're overestimating the caliber of people that typically flock to and are hired to do security jobs 2bh
>>
>>34721483

That's the truth. I've pretty much fucking strip-mined a family of home schooled Mormons and keep hoping they will turn up another cousin or something. I turn down jobs because I can't get enough reliable people able to pass a piss test (city contract insist on that, I don't care as long as you are never drunk or tweaking on the job) and smart enough to be unsupervised.

>>34721483

>>
>>34712667
Hello former LEO.
>>
>>34721520
Depends on where you're working I suppose but in the company I worked for typically didn't do VIP/bodyguard stuff. I'm in Canada so the company that gets most of the contracts for gov buildings/airports is made up about 50% of ex-military retirees aging 50-75 and is one of the biggest security employers. Depends on where you live/work senpai but I I'll say in my experience in my city it's mostly just people that need jobs, rarely checked out or tactically minded
>>
>>34721520
Personal security, at the higher end? It's competitive. Ex-military at a preference and it's not a fun job. The client dominates the job and being a bodyguard is boring as fuck with the added spice that if you do have to try and stop an attack it's going to be very difficult because of the nature of the game.

If you are willing to do armored truck and site security work it's more of a mixed bag. If you work for a good company then it's reliable, steady work and you get the safety of security setting the agenda rather then the client. It's still boring.

For a bad company, you are treated like an asshole and they make your job hard as fuck. They will do the absolute minimum, insist you never, ever do anything that might involve liability on their part and pressure you to work with people that are not reliable or professional.

>>34721603
Life isn't defined by occupation. A job is a job, my life outside is what counts. Take a doctor for example, you think you hate most people right? Imagine how he feels knowing that the vast majority of people he saves are trash. Doctors, especially ER doctors, are some of the biggest misanthropes I've ever met. Some jobs seem great on the outside, but they jade the fuck out of people. Being a cop is no different. Dealing with the worst society has to offer day in and out is tiring. Warps your view of everyone you come across. Best to just get through it and focus on what matters.
>>
>>34721617
So instead of making your job part of your purpose in life rather than a waste of time for money you choose to sit on your ass?
>>
>>34721691
Nah I'm using the job to keep me busy while I get my masters degree! But thanks for you concern, officer piggy.
>>
>>34721691
Jobs do not give your life purpose, only a complete tool would think like that. You do realize that the "purposeless jobs" outnumber "purposeful jobs" by 1000 to 1 right? By your logic, nearly no one has a definitive purpose. The irony is that you're right, only you believe certain occupations have a superficial meaning. Sigh, happiness is a choice. If you need to feel that other people think you're important to have a sense of purpose, you have bigger issues than a stranger on a South African shark skirt knitting forum can help you with.

>Open door and announce that there is a woman screaming for help across the street and i need some people to come help
>People look at me like im crazy
>Tell them i need some people to come with me to help again
>A couple guys and 5 girls come with me
>Run over to van and the girl got the door open and guy is trying to close it back
>Guy sees us all running over and pushes the girl out and shuts the door
>Bang on the door to open it up
>Guy gets in drivers seat and floors it out of there
>Almost hits me
>Call police
>Woman says he was beating her up in the van
>Says she was friends with him and they just went on a date
>Most likely wanted to rape her and was trying to beat her into submission
My friend acts like he saved the womans life but i think thats a bit too much, said the guy was some weak white dude and i doubt he wouldve killed her.

>Security will not prepare you for LEO work, I assure you. You will develop bad habits, get very bitter, and probably gain a lot of weight from being so sedentary.
The bitterness and weight gain is true. Depends on where you work as far as prep for LE. Obviously if you sit in a room solo all night for years you won't gain much. If you have to deal with the public constantly you will hopefully gain some communication skills as an authority figure.

>parking enforcement (ugh)

>riding along with a campus cop
>he slowly rolls through the parking lot
>says he doesn't give a shit about anything other than blatant violations such as misuse of handicapped spaces, or douche parking
>stops at a row of cars
>gets out and tells me I can stay in the car or come along
>I get out of course
>he ambles down the line, checking parking permits
>he's taking forever
>casually ask if he has to check all the cars like this on each day
>I'm informed that he doesn't, and in fact, he considers this his break
>a nice walk, some sun, female students wearing summer dresses, and he can drag permit checking out to an hour and a half if he wants
>he actually finds a car with an expired permit
>slaps a non-official warning on it and keeps walking

Cool guy. Very close to retirement so he took up a lower pressure job on a campus police force. Then he found he hated dealing with students, so he did his best to avoid most of them.

I once caught two employees fucking behind a dumpster on camera. Went out back, grabbed a hose the maintenance had hooked up because they had been hosing down grass seed during the day, and hosed both dumbasses down with freezing water screaming "DOWN BOY, GET OFF OF HER."

They ended up filing a complaint with the company itself, but it skated when our Contract holder got the footage and thoroughly lost it.

13$ I can't complain it's easy work

If you're going to do armed consider dispensary for weed although higher risk they pay anywhere from 14-20+

Armed Security Operator (Not joking, actual meme tier job title)

Major Energy Conglomerate in the Northouse Western US
$70k/yr before overtime (10hrs built in because minimum manning) plus annual incentive

M&P 15 primary/ 40 secondary

Minimum experience for interview was 10yrso LE/Milike (7/12 hired are all SF or SWAT)

Nifty detail but we have all DoD branches represented.

SMG/SBRsand Bolt Actions are being floated to leadership.

99.9% of the time the reality is they hired WAYYYYY above what's necessary. But the facility we protect has so much national signifigance that I'm constantly shocked it's in private hands.

Sometimes we joke that the facility is just an elaborate ruse to hide aliens or a living breathing JFK hidden in the basement.

Also I just finished a 12hr day shift that was mostly rooftop and perimeters so I'm not even spell checking and mostly likely will be in bed soon. I'm typing like a drunken stroke patient if that's not obvious already.

Idk how to feel about security work. I seriously don't mind but at my current post I think I should be salaried because I have to come in whenever they need me and I'm far exceeding the amount of desk work that most of the people above me are doing. Not only that, I'm contract security, AND I'm taking over the tasks that the actual company's security was supposed to be handling. Yet I'm still making less than 15/hr. I was about to get a supervisor position but it was filled by someone from my old company and the key reason why I'm in this situation is the root cause of everything before. no goddamned post-high edu because my single parent has a spending problem.

tldr I get to pretend like I'm doing something worthwhile and sustainable when talking to my peers. But in reality I'm barely making it and I want to find work that's at least exciting while I'm still young.

tldr still? better than most retail or manual labor positions. worse than everything outside of that.

Different company initiatives cause protesters to show up occasionally but Obama era policies pretty much guarantee us readily available support from local PD ( Which let us join in on the fun if they're actually on our property).

We've shot down drones and gotten away with it due to the same Obama infrastructure acts.

Wildlife have email zero respect for our fencing. After a coyote attacked an employee we've been authorized to pop coyotes from the roof when employees are away due to holidays.
