I'm a cheapass so I don't have a gun to take with me when I go innawoods. I do have a longbow but it's way too bulky.
I'm gonna get a melee weapon to take with me. Should I go for a sword or a polearm like pic related?
a small axe and a walking stick would probably be the most practical tools
if anyone gives you shit start talking like an old timy prospector looking for gold. much better than a psycho carrying a sword.
Get a better education and job so you can afford a rifle that has a bayonet mount on it.
Bam. Done and done.
>>34705085
what's your budget? cause most people can afford a shotgun.
>>34705085
A sturdy walking stick, at least you won't look like a complete sperg
>>34705085
it's called a bush axe. i have two. they are infinitely useful. i can fell a young tree in one swing. they can also be used to clear nasty brush while keeping things like brier thorns at arms length.
>>34705173
Less than $100. I'm in college, so I'm super cheap.
>>34705191
so save more and then get a 200 dollar shotgun.
>>34705197
Not a maverick. Jesus christ not a maverick..
A used stevens 12ga is like 100 bucks.
>>34705085
Compact crossbows and take-down bows exist ya know. Also pistols are cheap as fuck. You seriously have to be fucking poor to not be able to own a gun. Either that or you gun laws are shit.
Anyhow... walking stick + pocket/utility knife. Maybe a E-tool and Maglite too. Get the LED Maglites, they're blinding as hell. If you're in deep foliage maybe a machete.
>>34705191
you can get a shotgun for a little more. a bolt action shotgun probably. if you're lucky you might find a pump action on sale.

Hatchet/machete/knife
Now get out noguns
>>34705191
Buy a decent trade hawk replica head and mount it to a shaft long enough to make it into a walking stick.
Then make a leather blade cover and tool it to look fancy, and stick some National Park walking stick medallions on it so it doesn't look threatening.
You should be able to do this for under $100
>>34705085
>Cheapass therefore nowoodsgun

Most Hicksville pawn shops have a barrel of poor condition single shot break actions in their used gun section, you can generally talk $70 down to $50, and then you could buy a chamber insert to let you shoot cheaper ammo like .38 special/.357 mag and still stay under the $100 budget.
Online sales of cheap guns is a false economy because a $20 transfer is a bigger chunk of a sub $100 gun
Anyone here made a spear before?
try a cookie ree.
>>34705609
that's worse than not having a gun
>>34706156
No its not.
>>34705962
yea, when i was 12.
>>34705227
I was thinking about one of those crossbow pistols but I don't know how shitty they are. I'm a college student with a shit job, so I'm double poor right now.
I go deep innawoods and do some urbex too. I have a nice tomahawk that I use for chopping up snakes but I want something bigger.
>>34706242
A Hi-Point is objectively worse than not having a gun. It's also worse than AIDS.
>>34706156
>>34706436
Elaborate.
>>34706460
If I have a gun, I want it to work.
A Hi-Point doesn't.
>>34706473
sure does memestar, its ugly and heavy but by all regards it works damned well.
>>34705085
Get a boar spear, halberd, or poleaxe if you want a melee weapon to doubles as a hiking stick.
You want something that either has lugs/wings, or some other type of physical barrier to stop whatever is attacking you from 'running up the spear'. Boar spears have lugs/wings at a near perpendicular angle to the spear to prevent this. The axe head and spike/hook/hammer/etc on a halberd or poleaxe will do this as well.
>>34706802
I don't know what retard started the "any winged spear is a boar spear" thing, but he sure as fuck didn't know what he was talking about. And sure enough the internet ate it up and asked for more.
Here are some proper boars pears. Broader, heads with plenty of belly in the edges, really thick shafts for obvious fucking reasons and some kind of "don't run up the shaft" device. Could be fixed lugs. Could be a pivoting bar like this. Could be a piece of bone attached with a leather strap. Fuck knows why having it be able to move helps, but that's what a lot went with.
The spear you posted is for hunting long pig.
>>34705187
this. and its actually useful for walking.

>>34705190
Aye um. I call it a sling blade.
>>34705085
Check out PVC bows. Backyard Bowyer makes a couple take down horse bows that you can afford to make even on your money.
Since that will only set you back 20 bucks max. Save the rest and buy a shotgun. A break action shotgun or a bolt action shotgun is your best bet. I'd lean towards the break action unless you find a great deal on the bolt action. Break action shotties aren't sexy but will last forever and will fill a niche in your battery forever.
>>34705212
No, you can find plenty of police trade-ins of Remington 870P for $250.
>>34706428
Machetes are always a choice. People don't give them credit, but they'll chop wood just as good if heavy enough. That said, avoid light machetes.
>>34706264
How many woolly mammoths did you kill with it?
>>34707700
um Some people are calling it a kaiser blade though mmh...
>>34707042
>long pig
is that what I think it is?
>>34711925
its people anon
>>34705085
Axes are an old standby. A hatchet is as good at chopping trees as chopping folks.
>>34705191
i've gotten break action shotguns for $50
>>34705085
Get a stout stick made out of oak or hickory
Extremely useful for hiking. Can be used to rustle bushes to check for snakes, raccoons, etc and can be used to whack animals from a safe distance.
>>34705085
Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a kaiser blade... mmmmhmm.
Cold steel bushman, the spear head in pic related is pretty good for the price
Is it boars that you fear, OP ? If so, take a collapsible spear.
