Ausfag thread.
What are you buying?
Have you taken any noguns or anti-funners shooting?
I've organised a work trip to Springvale to try to get some guys into guns, though I wish there was somewhere close that rented out centerfires..
>>
>>34701665
sorry your cuck government de-fanged you and your people.
Should have been your moment to tell them to fuck off.

PSA: Get your Cat H. It's fun.
>>
>>34701687
I'm still having trouble getting A/B, H is basically a fucking pipe-dream for me at this stage.
>>
>>34701665
So, basically, you are looking for anti-dropbear weapons?
>>
>>34701677
Thanks mate we're working on it

Be honest with me, is there any hope whatsoever of getting semi-autos into Cat A/B with anything short of an armed rebellion?
>>
>>34701687
Neat. If those are yours, did you convert any of them from imports / Cat C or D rifles?

The prices on the rare Uzis / Skorpions etc on Usedguns I've seen are insane.
>>
>>34701687
how do you own so many cat h i thought you could only have like 3 pistols at max
>>
>>34701748
Chinese invasion of mainland Australia, maybe.

The way the NFA works makes easing of legislation practically impossible. Even getting supermajorities in politics is hard enough, you see that with the success rate of constitutional changes.

Getting absolute agreement is ridiculously difficult, especially in the face of a guaranteed public backlash which would probably result in at least one state government getting kicked out of office. Even just getting the Adler changes took the firing of one police minister and the bullying of another to get through.

Went down to Gunco to pick up a scope for my Sako A7 in .243 Got a scope for it after 8 odd years

When you lost you job and ran out of money for ammo/ range fee's

Zeiss conquest dl 3-12x50

Took it out today. Its probably been shot under 10 times for the course of 8 years until today, its a little off center so I need to sight it in at a gun range when I get the chance

Been waiting since a kid to shoot the damn thing, its been a worth while wait I must say that. Got the scope for $1250 which was 100 bucks cheaper than what was advertised + it was the last one they had in stock so I got real lucky I guess.

Shitloads of people did, they didnt care. The states were all blackmailed into agreement with threats to their funds.

The local hardware stores all sold out of PVC pipe, if the laws ever get relaxed then a lot of people will be digging up their yards

help me fellow ausfags. Im looking at a .223. Im set on either a howa 1500 or a CZ 527. The CZ is an heirloom style rifle, it would be a neat older brother to my CZ 452, it also has that sexy mauser action, however its also nearly double the price of a Howa and it has a non top loading 5 round mag. The Howa does the same job just as well and it has a top loading mag, and it has all the aftermarket options i might want. Im seriously stuck between these two
>>
>>34701977
howa. action is top tier.
>>
>>34701665
Has anyone here got a LA102, or any experience with them?
>>
>>34701997
I've fired a mag at springvale, they have a few loaners, I think Lithgow gave them out because they're 1300 dollars.
It's good, real tack driver, great action, very snappy.
>>
>>34701665
Can anyone here tell me what's involved in the safety training course to get your license?

Mostly wondering how far in advance you have to book the course, and how many days it takes.
>>
>>34702126
The one I did was like three hours and piss easy. That was for Cat A/B for ACT/NSW
>>
>>34702126

Read the book once atleast. The test involves you watching a firearms safety video from the 80s aftwe which you answer 30 multiple choice questions there are either 6 or 12 (I was twelve when I did it so cant remember exactly) that you MUST get correctly but its all common sense shit. If a 12 year old me can get 30/30 then sure you can too.

>>34702145
I'll keep that in mind.

One more question I guess. After doing the course I'll be buying a gun safe and signing up for clubs, but how soon after I've done the course can I go out and purchase a gun? I'm keen to get my hands on a .22 raifu

ello lads, about to receive my first permit to acquire.
I want to start hunting deer. Any suggestions for a first rifle? Was looking at Lithgow LA102 in .308 because straya but it only has a 3 shot mag.

First rifle? .22, learn to shoot. Then maybe a howa like >>34701977
Or a savage axis if you can find it cheap. And you'll probably want a decent scope so save 2-300 bucks at least for one with good rings.

I've heard about the 28 day wait time as well, does that mean I can only apply to purchase a firearm once a month?

I'd hate to miss out on grabbing a rare item like a Steyr 1912 because I've already put an order down for something else.

thats for your first one, after that it's only a couple of days, less if it's done by a dealer. It took 2 days to get my shotgun.
>>

Nope, it just means you need to wait 28 days for your first firearm of each category
>>
>>34702216
>>34702211
Oh, that's cool then.

Is there a lot of stuff like taxes and transfer fees involved in purchasing a firearm? I've already got a fairly long list in mind for the collection I plan on building, but I do have a limited budget.
>>
>>34702229
That's gonna take you a while, limited budget and collections are incompatible, most guns are expensive. What's in your list?

.22 LR rifle of some kind, a High Standard .22 handdgun, an SMLE, a Tikka T3 in 6.5 Swede, a Beretta 92, a double barrel 12 gauge for clay shooting, a Webley .455, and maybe a couple of black powder guns like a martini henry and an old muzzleloader. Could even be tempted to pick up a .357 wheelgun and levergat, too.
>>
>>34701665

Just bought a 1981 Colt Python and a MR 1911GSS. Gonna try IPSC with a revolver.

you're talking at least 10k right there.
Plus you'll need your Cat H, and that's a whole lot more waiting and costs.
>>
>>34702300
that sounds like fun, I thought they only allowed semis for that shit. How much does it cost to get into IPSC? Looks expensive.
>>
>>34702311
It can be. Simple things like a belt are $70-80, then you've got mag pouches, holsters all that shit. You can do it on the 'cheap' but you'll have average gear. My 1911 alone was $2100, just because I wanted a reasonable comp gun thats not going to smash itself to pieces. You can buy cheap shit like glocks etc and just shoot those if you don't want to spend a bunch of money.

There's a heap of different divisions, one of them is revolver but like nobody shoots it.
>>
>>34701686

>>
>>34701686
None are appealing to you?
>>
>>34702308
I figured it'd be somewhere in the five figure mark, yeah. I'm just going for the basics first - .22 rifle, SMLE, and a pistol - then I'll slowly collect the rest as my budget permits.
>>
>>34701977
What about finnshit? People seem to really love Tikka/Sako
>>

your pic related, sometime around christmas (hopefully more than one)

>>34701687
fun as fuck but the club joining process is such a pain in the arse in melbourne

wife and i started it with that mob at the springvale range but had to stop once she was ~8 weeks pregnant, haven't had time since then

>>34701774
NFA won't change, best chance we have is a state going rogue and making "unapproved" changes that canberra doesn't like

eg: take the cat C/D thing for large property owners in QLD and relax the requirements bit by bit so it removes the pest problem clause and then maybe opens it up to anyone with permission for that much land, etc

>>34701997
not the LA102 but if it's anything like the LA101 I'm going to buy the entire fucking set of them

fuck that thing was nice to shoot, shame the magazine empties so fast on it
>>

I have one in .223 and it is extremely reliable. No joke more reliable than my .223 Sako when using rubbish cheap soft points. Mine's a real beater and has had thousands of rounds through it.
Shoots about 0.75 inch groups at 100m with reloads and strapping the cunt down to a bench.

Downsides are they're a pain to shoot at any kind of range. I originally had 3-9x scope mounted and could reliably hit the 600m gong but ended up going back to ghost rings as its not a practical action for shooting any kind of distance.
The finish is like 5/10, if you live in Darwin or FNQ keep it in a sock.

They're great fun and there's endless doodads you can buy for them so if you can afford it, go for it. Lots of people will bash them because they're horrendously overpriced and popular but they're fine guns.

Do you guys think it could ever be argued that cat C/D should be available to people who have no criminal history and have been firearms owners for >3 years? Even with a 10 round assault bananaclip capacity limit, shit would be pretty cash.
>>
>>34706252
In the minds of the pro-gun control elite, gun owners are always just one bad experience away from murdering a dozen kindergartners.

Add to that the fact that the respective police ministers are in control of the legislation, and that by denying the general public access to something like a semiautomatic rifle means one less variable police have to deal with in any given situation.

So... I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Is it true that, because you guys are on the upside down part of Earth, your "liberal" and "conservative" values are opposite to what they are in the US? So liberals want small government and conservatives want big govvie?
>>
>>34710475
>>34710475
Not quite - our more conservative of the two major parties is called the Liberal Party, but that goes back to when liberal meant personal freedoms and small government, not SJW shit.
>>
>>34710475
No, we just use the word 'liberal' correctly.
>>
>>34702400
SMLEs aren't cheap anymore, it's 700 for a good condition one that hasn't been bubba'd
.22s are alright though, 300 for a marlin XT or something. or go expensive and get a BLR if you want to really have some fun.
Honestly If I knew earlier, I'd get a double barrel as my second gun, you can use it way more and shells are cheap.
>>
>>34706252
Problem being is that they see gun owners as criminals to be. If they could they would take every last one, so while I agree, it's not going to happen, especially because the SSAA are cucked as fuck and don't actually do anything to improve legislation.
