I've seen a few of his rifles and they look like they just left the factory, and they did. The bluing was too dark to be 70 years old. You could tell by looking very closely that the machining where the old number was or code was turned off was too good and didn't match anything else.

Even the stocks looked like they had material removed by comparing to the cup type buttplates, which they were, since the markings were re-stamped on them by "Honest" Don Mitchell.
