Gander Mountain is going out of business, firearms are 30% off.

What should I pick up in the $200 to $600 range?

Don't have a pistol permit so that's out of the question for now

30% off at Gander Mountain is normal price online. The only stuff left in their inventory is the shit everyone else has passed on. Don't bother. Do some decent research and buy something like a Savage Axis II in .223 online.

Poorfag detected. Ganders stuff was fair compared to other big box stores and they did price matching. All you had to do was not be a spurg.
>>
>>34696081
If there's something like a Maverick 88 or Pardner for sub-140 (30% off Mav88 retail), that's a snap keep any day.

Else, .22 semi-auto, AR or a .223 bolt gun by Savage or something

Minnesota has these faggot laws too. Also applies to muh "ASSAULT RIFLES". I have to go to my city police station and request the privilege to buy a gun I have the right to have. The 2nd amendment means nothing when shit like this is in law.

this

>Ganders stuff was fair compared to other big box stores and they did price matchin
No they capped their price matches at a certain amount.

some places they just straight up would deny a pricematch with

also $700 for a glock 21 is not "fair" and you dont have to be a poorfag to know that price is outrageous you autist.

Source: I worked there
>>
>>34696081
You in Houston? I just drive by a sign that said it was the only store.
>>
>>34696983
I worked there too
The glock 21 was 640, not 700.
Price matching was set to brick and mortar stores and only if it was above our cost. No store will price match below cost.
If you're store was denying price matches outside of company policy you should have been fired.
>>
>>34696211
You don't happen to live in Rochester do you

Because the GM at Jefferson still has Tokarevs for 200 bucks, which is a pretty good price.

yes because it was me who denied it and not all 3 managers

its literally just a preliminary background check before you get the gun.

Unless youre a felon or a lazy cunt then when you actually decide what gun you want and lay down the cash then it actually makes the process faster since you dont have to do the background check there, its already been done.

Its give and take, but its by no means as horrible as people bitch.

It shut down because they were banking on Hillary winning and everyone panic buying again.
They opened 60 new stores in 3 years and were turning huge profits due to "gun bans" and were leasing those properties rather than buying them.
They were not doing anything typical big box stores weren't doing, maxing profits. It was shitty but that's the way the market was going.
If your managers were breaking company policy you should have contacted the head office.
>>34697311
If you don't like it, buy it somewhere else. Gander didn't need your business. There are plenty of retards who would pay that price for a g21. Their death was reckless spending not over charging.
Also I didn't get fired, I left for a higher paying job in my degree field. Ganders prices were fair for a big box store and their selection was great. Go compare prices at cabales, bass pro or academy for their glocks, it's around 30-50 dollars.
Between price matching, sales, and haggling I never over paid at gander.

>>34697425
>maximizing profits

Actual legit advice, Anon:
Hard to go wrong with a .22 for your first gun. Something like a Marlin model 60 or whatever they're selling these days.
Ammo's cheap, recoil is nonexistent, and it'll help teach you the basics of gun ownership and use.
>>
>>34697406

>>34697439
Yes but even as a gander apologist they were charging full MSRP.
So was bass pro, cabales academy and dicks though
>>
>>34696699
> paying MSRP

How is that a good idea?
>>
>>34697458
MSRP literally means "Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price". It means dick besides "this is what we (mfg) would sell it for if someone came directly to us". The price of ANY good can easily vary across the nation due to local demand, restrictions, taxes, etc.
>>
>>34697425
Faggot.
>>
>>34696081
Depends. What do you want out of a gun? Home defense, hunting, fun, etc.

There's more than likely a variety of guns in your price range that can fit all 3

This is so true it hurts, were rumors they actually held back some stock for election day, what a mistake that was
>They opened 60 new stores in 3 years and were turning huge profits due to "gun bans" and were leasing those properties rather than buying them.
mhmmm, thats just bad investing
>They were not doing anything typical big box stores weren't doing, maxing profits. It was shitty but that's the way the market was going.
yeah because places like buds, brownells, midway and amazon are killing big box stores, and instead of being competitive, they do the opposite and charge people more for going out of their way not to order online.
>If your managers were breaking company policy you should have contacted the head office.
Called the head office multiple times for multiple things I saw that were straight up bullshit.
If I did hear back it was my manager berating me for ever making the call, calls that were supposed to be anonymous I thought.
>>
What the fuck is a pistol permit?
>>
>>34698030
much like how you have to ask a law enforcement agency if its ok for you to have an NFA item, some states have permits you must acquire before purchasing a handgun.

New York, Illinois, North Carolina and some other states have it.

though in North Carolina its literally just the same background check you would do on a 4473 form anyway just done beforehand.

obviously Illinois and New york are much more jewy about it.
>>
>>34697489
Compelling
>>34697775
We weren't holding anything back, just anticipating large crowds.
It's wasn't charging more just because, stores charge more because it cost more to run a store than a warehouse, pay employees, manage theft, provide upkeep for the building and such.
All big box stores make money off volume. Gander made about $120-$200 per gun sold and 70%-90% of the stores income was gun sales (depending on the store itself, the ones near the water made huge profits on fishing merch)
I called corporate several times and the response was always calls to the store manager and emails to the general office account.

I'm always amazed at how some people can shill sheriffs like they're God's Chosen People. There is no difference between a deputy and a city cop and the sheriff himself is a politician.
>>
>>34699151
I already explained that it was bad investment and real estate deals that sunk gander. No amount of gun sales were gonna make up for the amount of money they owed within the allotted repayment schedule.
>>
>>34699195
I 100% believe anyone who is a politician or LEO is untrustworthy. Theyre people who want power over other people. You know who would make a great politician? Ron Paul.

OP, half of these are meme replies by AR-tards. And I own an AR.
Never shot a gun before, or are new to it in general?
Wanna shoot a lot for cheap, 500 rounds for $35?
Buy a .22! Low recoil, easy to learn on, and a great starter rifle you can keep with you forever.
I recommend a Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60 as >>34696101 said.
Have fun!

But they can do both... Freedom-guns dotcom. They're not exactly bigbox, yet, but they do have multiple locations and prices that match or in some cases beat whats online. I just bought a Ruger mark iv 22/45 from them for 320 in person, 15$ cheaper than they had it listed online which was itself already cheaper than most places i looked
