Hello /k/, I have a 14.5 ar pistol. In looking for an optic, I've decided on the Vortex strike eagle 1x6, or the Viper PST 1x4 also from Vortex. So I planned on getting the strike eagle until I saw this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kljDJi6IcaA
So can anybody tell me how they really compare as far as glass, field of view, eye relief, etc. Is the Viper worth the $150 more with 2x less magnification?
Any other suggestions in the price range? Regard the purpose as general SHTF innawoods tacicalness. Thanks.
If you get the Strike Eagle, get the 1-8. They greatly improved the quality of the glass from the 1-6. Plus you get an additional 2x magnification.

>14.5 ar pistol
Why man could have just gone 16" with plus velocity.
Burris is nice.
>>34695503
Got a BCM 14.5 light weight for a lot cheaper than the 16. Plus, with this brace, I can have a pretty much normal gun, and in the future change out different short uppers.
>>34695571
fair enough
>>34695439
tangentially-related question:
Did the ATF really rescind its autism regarding "arm-braces" on AR/AK pistols?
>>34695684
I think so, but that may have been only for the Sig brace. Kind of hard to keep up with. I'm playing it safe by getting the brace, but I have the private land to do whatever I want with it if you feel me.
>>34695473
If I can get the 1x6 for $250, then is the 1x8 worth double the price?
>>34695684
Yes
>>34695727
They also approved a letter for the blade thing whatever it is called.
>>34695727
>>34695842
well hot damn I think I just felt my dick move
>>34695888
kek
>>34695842
So now what's the point of getting an SBR? To have an actual telescoping/folding stock? As in like what'd you'd find on a full-size AR/AK?
>>34695928
With the ATF approval to shoulder them, I don't know. To have a VFG I guess?
>>34695928
>To have an actual telescoping/folding stock
Brutty much, there is more to it like a vertical fore grip and some other stupid retarded stuff. It also has to do if the lower receiver (if building) or if it was originally sold as a rifle. Not really sure on all of the technicalities. I'm parting a pistol atm just going that route.
>>34695928
The GHW tailhook mod 2 actually is telescopic. That's why I want it. Haven' found another one that does.
>>34695987
Forgot Pic
>>34695955
>With the ATF approval to shoulder them
It seems more as if they mean to "accidentally" shoulder them. 922 & NFA need to go, they might have had a good chance via petitions if everyone and their mother had not made one and spread out the signatures.
I am also not a lawyer for gun rights and you should always check locally.
>>34696001
there's a few.
>>34695987
Yea I noticed that. I should've been more specific, I meant stocks that were purpose-built as such.
I'm an AK guy and I really want to make a krink underfolder but it looks like I'll still have to go SBR route because I can't find anything that looks as sexy on an AK pistol :(
>>34696036
join us
we have.. well.. we have something youll like im sure
>>34696034
The PDW ones of course, but telescopic like a normal ar15, so you don't have to change the tube, and bcg.
>>34696047
tee hee
>>34695439
The rule of thumb is Scope Cost = (Rifle Cost * 4)
>>34696036
You can get ak's with a folding ar buffer tube
>pic related
Not quite as aesthetic, but quite functional I'd think if you don't want to sbr.
>>34696088
hmm
>>34696094
>tee hee
this made me grin
>>34696105
Well I'm not looking for a $3000 scope when something cheaper will suite me. I've heard good things about Vortex, and am looking for an opinion on these, or something similar.
>>34696164
too hoo
>>34696129
That's not bad! Not as sexy as an underfolder or a triangular sidefolder but...not bad
>>34696181
kek i don't have many ak photos

>>34696218
there was some paki gun smith thread a while back and someone uploaded hella cute AK's
I would love owning one of these
>>34696218
OP here. I think the link was meant for me. That's not bad, but I'd like to keep the option of 1x.
Price range is about $500 or less.
>>34696257
for some reason I just love the idea of chopping down an AK and making it fire 7.62 tok

there is this too im torn between the two atm, want to pic related more streamlined
>>34696257
that is brutty nice
>>34696359
I like that. How does Burris compare to Vortex?
>>34696434
I'd be biased as having only used Burris Products before. That being said the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 looks comparable in specs to the Burris I linked earlier.
Some people in /arg/ have them they could give you a better answer >>34691941 they usually link their previous threads so if one is at the end Id wait til they start a new one to get the most replies and input.
>>34695955
My 11.5"bbl pistol clocks in at 28"overall length so it's technically in the "firearm" category. No legal issued with a VFG at that length. Still handy as fuck too. I went with the thordsen cheek rest.

>>34695439
I've got the PST 1-4(moa) on one of my guns. It's tits. If I was buying one today it'd probably be the 1-8 even though I don't like the reticle as well as the one on the 1-4.
>>34695776
That'd be up to you. I find the glass in the 1-8x really nice and the reticle to be wicked easy to pick up a target with.
>>34695928
You can get a folding stock without a stamp now too. The LAW stock adapters, bruh.
>>34698134
Well I just found one for $399 on ebay, so I'll consider it. Go to a gunshop and look through them both. So in the future, I plan on getting a ar10. I like the PA 1x8 for its reticle. Do you know how Primary Arms would compare in quality?
>>34695439
Save and buy a used ACOG.
>>34698291
I know those are the top of the line thing, but I prefer the capabilities of going between 1x6. Gives me some options.
>>34698335
Ignore the grandpa. We have entered the age of low power variable optics and there is no going back.
>>34696105
>memes and shit
You're prob gay senpai, just saiyan
What scope is decent for an 18" spr but doesn't cost more than 250$?
What kind of variable optics like that are there
>>34698604
What kind of distances? Anything else you can tell us? Caliber?

>>34699264
Ok, and what's your purpose with it?
>>34698270
Can't say for sure, but I've heard they're all made in the same factory. I went with Vortex for the warranty since it's no questions asked. To save a few bucks and get a different reticle, PA might be a good choice.
>>34698604
>>34699264
It's pretty hard to say anon. How much magnification do you want for those ranges? Do you care about having a 1x power? I think you'll have a hard time with that price though.
3x9 scopes are popular and a lot are reasonably priced, but if you want 1x, then look into a 1x6, or 1x8 optical scope. Sorry I can't speak in specifics, as I own none yet.
>>34699424
Shooting of man sized silhouette targets
And maybe some hunting
>>34699579
See >>34699571
I'd go with a 1x6 or 1x8, but you may want more magnification. I've heard of a 1x10, but you may not care about 1x power.

some good budget options here^
>http://www.opticsplanet.com/gearexpert/2015/03/top-ar-scopes-for-every-budget.html
These may give you some ideas. Sorry I couldn't be much help.
>>34699796
The Nikon p300 for the 223 looks pretty sweet but I'm not liking the way it's only matched for 55grain so I'm looking at this one

>>34699897
Cool, that's a good price. If you can, try to find one in a store somewhere so you can look through it and really see what you think.
>>34699796
TheTrijicon Accupoint TR24 1-4×24 on that list was advertised as less than 300$ but when I look it up all of them are over 900$ what gives
>>34696964
nice
>>34695439
steiner p4xi is like 480 on botach if you can stretch your budget. if not just get the vortex or one of the primary arms variables
>>34700257
The price points are above them. The trijjicon was in the 500-1000 range.
>>34695439
I just got a SIG716 for a boar hunting trip I'm going on with my dad and brothers. I have never been hunting before. I have been to the range plenty. Not sure if I need a dot scope or a magnified scope, I have a metropro lite on a tavor I have that I could just swap?
I really have no idea.
>>34696257
I would literally give my left testicle for this.
>>34703318
Why the left?
>>34701128
Is it a higher quality? Do you have any experience with it?
>>34696094
How do you take out the magazine or put a different on in?... You have to tilt it forward to place the mag into the rifle...
