Any reccomendations for a cheap mount that works well but doesn't involeve drilling and tapping? If I get a rear sight mount what would be a good budget optic that has long eye relief?

Don't be a bubba. Do it the way it's supposed to be done or buy a different rifle.

It's your gun you spent money on, so whatever you want.
>It's a mosin
>It's a cheap, mass produced rifle made from the worst cuts of wood they could find and made from poor steel
>You are not butchering 'history'

Might as well cut up an 03a3 and a German kar98k while you're at it, those were just cheap guns, too.

Sure, why not.

Check out accumounts.com they have a good selection of reproduction optics and mounts. PU, PE, and PEM scope packages for nuggets.
I used something like this on amazon although I can't find the exact one I bought

Literally no one cares if you drill/tap a 1941-1944 Izhevsk mosin that was refurbished by Ukrainian arsenals after the war.

Brass Stacker mount.
You mount it using the rear sight but you can still leave the sight-blades on for viewing underneath the slightly elevated scope mount.
Caveat is that it requires pairing with a long eye relief scope.
Sell it and get an axis or something
