Happened a while back (and all healed up). First time I took the Mosin out and pulled back on the bolt too quickly and it bit my thumb.

It's my fingerprint, courtesy of my Hakim.
I tried letting the bolt down off the catch by hand, and actually got most of the way down.
About a quarter of the way I couldn't hold it any more (my thumb was on the gas cup) and I tried yanking it out of the way quickly.
It wasn't quick enough and it functioned like a guillotine.
Almost a week later I let the dust cover slam on a web of skin.

The point is that it would probably crack a finger and chop the shit out of it if you let it slam on one.

I've also had an OOB on a friends mosin.
It fired a round in the chamber, a round over the magazine being fed into the chambered round, and the top round in the mag.
I had second degree burns all up the inside and outside of my right hand roughly until my trigger finger.
My trigger finger had the prints melted off of it.
And the doc missed a piece of the detonated casings, so I had to pick a piece of shrapnel out of my knuckle around two weeks later when it would heal right.

I still love my Guns.

In our defense, rounds can actually slip from the magazine into the chamber if the gun is tilted down when loading it.
