Questions that don't deserve their own thread

I have astigmatism, but my vision is correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contacts. Can I still use red dot sights if I wear my lenses?
>>
>>34685516
You can still use red dots if you have an astigmatism, it just wont be a perfect dot, it will be a starburst.
Correcting your vision doesnt have anything to do with it because an astigmatism is an issue with the shape of your eye. Things that help reduce the the starburst effect if the dot include turning the brightness down, wearing polarized sunglasses, and cowitnessing the dot with a rear ghost ring.
Alternatively you could use a prismatic sight

I live in the US. I want to own a firearm for hunting purposes. However, I know I'm a bit of a loose cannon and do not trust myself with keeping a rifle at home.

Are there storage options for keeping a firearm elsewhere or must I keep it at home? I hear renting is an option, but if my past experiences hunting with family in my home country (CH) have taught me, it's that I need time to grow accustomed to one firearm. I feel I wouldn't have enough time to get familiar with a rental.
>>
>>34685615
Maybe marginally, but you should be fine, if youre really worried about it go prismatic or magnified instead

In all the states I've researched in the SouthEast, "enclosed in a container out of ready reach" is an unlocked glove box so transit isn't a problem. Open carry rules vary but it's allowed for transport. The Northeast is the region with the draconian state border/hunting laws.

>Correcting your vision doesnt have anything to do with it because an astigmatism is an issue with the shape of your eye.
Wot.

No. Astigmatism is a defect in the shape of the cornea, as opposed to near and far sightedness, which are caused by the shape of the eyeball. All can generally be described as a defect in the shape of the eye, and all can be corrected with glasses or contacts, if not too severe.
>>

how do those fiber optic sights work?

I bought a sig with those green sights recently, and I was initially thinking that maybe the rod's sides collected the local ambient light or something to make the 'ends' shine in the dark to be visible from the 'back' where you'd be looking down the sights, but then I tried to test that theory by going in the bathroom or closet and closing the doors so there was no ambient light, but the ends of the sight still really shined; which is A. That's fantastic, the fact that you can line up you shot SO will in the pitch black without your target having any awareness B. What the fuck is this sorcery? Is this radioactive and shit?, If I wear this thing near my junk long term am I going to get dick or ball cancer or something?
>>
>>34688929
Some sights work exactly like you think, they absorb the sunlight actively and make them shine. Some work like your watch, absorbing light and storing it. And some are actually radioactive, like most ACOGs. Generally they use Tritium. They don't require any sun to work, ever, but also need replacing every few years. The type of radiation they emit is called alpha particles, and they can't penetrate though even your skin. The glass they use blocks the particles from coming close to even your skin, so feel free to appendix carry all you want. However don't ingest the fluid inside the sights, as it will kill you.

IL is easy as shit though
cased and unloaded and you're 100% fine
case can be anywhere in the car and anything that completely encases the firearm
ammo doesn't need to be separated from the firearm either, and out of staters don't need a FOID card
no restrictions on type of firearm either, so long as it's not NFA

Glock 17 and 19.

Actually I handled a Glock, Springfield XD, S&W MP 2.0, and Walther PPQ and I had to hold all of off-center in my hand to reach the trigger.

The only guns I handled that I didn't have to do that with were a 1911 with really thin grips and some tiny .38 revolvers.

If my plan is to join a mechanized infantry battaltion (like, 2-3 years from now), what could I do to prepare? I am already doing the obvious; I exercise a lot, and I also do a lot of trekking with a map and compass. I am in Norway, and since I'm a student, I can't really afford to fuck around with guns, so that's out of the question. My plan is to do combat, so I need to be as good of a soldier as I can possibly be.
