How did the Allies gain almost unchallanged air superiority in 1944? Was it only due to their numerical advantage? How could the Luftwaffe have reacted more successfully?
Also, how much could a streamlined and more efficient mass production of fewer weapon systems have affected the war on the German side?

Yes but not by much, too many things were going wrong for them.

By late 44 and definitely by 45 the problem was no longer the supply of aircraft, it was the supply of trained pilots and fuel. By late 44 the air war was lost and was unwinnable.
Also the German high command were retards.
