I love a lot of ww1 weapons and equipment because of how bizarre they seem today. Nation's litrrally trying anything to break a stalemate.

Indeed but I find that very symbolic of how the war itself was a major transitionary period from classical to modern warfare.

The trenches, forts, pillboxes, and fortified positions in general are my favorite pieces of engineering from the war.
Walking around the Alsace Front and Verdun was truly amazing.
