Between these two, which do you choose and why?
>>
Golden Tiger cause I like the color more. I've bought a shitload of both and they've both performed well and have had no issues at all. But GT is more purdy.
>>
Better choose soon, they about to be banned

Tulammo because thats what the actual Russian army uses and more importantly 40 rounds is <10bucks

Golden Tiger is the Yank version of Barnaul, right? I feed my Sako Barnaul most of the time, and it seems more consistent and reliable than Tula. Never had a problem with either, but I've shot Barnaul a lot more since I get better results and it just feels better than Tulashit. Same price too.
>>
Golden tiger is better quality than tula or wolf
>>
>>34677447
GT is Vympel plant ammo.
>>
Is the cheap Russian shit really going to get banned? I might need to pick up a 1k case of GT if it is.

Also, I've had more misfires with tula in my wasr than brown bear in my ar556.
>>
>>34677467
Nobody knows. Well, nobody that's going to tell the public what's going to happen knows. I'm willing to bet they already have a list of exactly which companies are going to be targeted for sanctions.

"Representative" government.
>>
>>34677222
Golden tiger because it's a lacquered steel case, and coated primer. It also has a boat tail bullet as opposed to a conventional bullet. Plus I like the boxes they come in.
>>
>>34677454
Well never mind then.

GT is 19 cents per round on sgammo right now, it's cheaper than the 8M3.
Buy a case of the GT for practice/plinking and get a few 100 rounds of the 8M3 for defense/hogs/varmints.

Also that 8M3 isn't typical tula, it's made by UCW and is only being sold in Tula packaging.

Oh so its their hollowpoint ammo. So basically im dumb for having 3000 rounds of fmj stocked instead.

Neat.
>>
>>34681410
No it's not like that at all don't worry. 8m3 is new to the US, the tula hollowpoints that have been sold here for years don't say 8m3, and they perform exactly like FMJ.
>>
>>34681410
Nyet comrade, 8m3 is unlike traditional crap HP.
This ammunition is crafted with far superior design that is actually quite effective.
There are many youtube videos of people testing this ammo with splendid results.
>>
>>34681410
It's not just their hollowpoint rounds. It isn't even made by Tula. It is made by Ulyanovsk Cartridge Works, and exported by Tula. Right now SGAmmo has a one year contract with the manufacturer to import the ammo. As far as I know they are the only source. The contract started at the beginning of the year. From what I understand, it's not just a standard HP bullet, but is designed with weak points in the bullet that allow fragmenting. The gel tests for 8m3 are damn near erotic.

Aight well i bought 3k rounds of FMJ tula from like luckygunner or some gay site last winter because i live in NY and sgammo wont ship here. Im 99% sure my ammo boxes dont say 8M3. They are 40 round boxes with plastic holding all the rounds together nice and neat (as opposed to 20 round boxes ive seen in the past with the rounds layed 5x4 with sheets of paper seperating them).

Am i fucked? How can i tell if my ammo is good or not based on this info? Should i try to resell it and buy the good stuff somehow?
>>
How does the softpoint 762x39 stack up to 8m3?
>>
>>34681519
Pretty much all bi metal jacket hollow points are just funny looking FMJ in practice.
The awesome 8m3 are specifically labeled as such and are 124 GR hollow points inported through Tula, with weakening cuts on the inside of the jacket to facilitate the expansion/fragmentation of the round.
>>
>>34681519
It's fucking FMJ ammo, what do you plan on going out to slot hadjis with it?

Learn the difference between FMJ and HP and their uses before you run out and buy $600 worth of ammo.
>>
>>34681541

Yeah i got that part, thats why i never bothered with hollowpoints to begin with. So in summary you are saying if its not labeled as 8M3 on the box, its not it. RIP me.

>>34681540

I am curious about this though. I have a couple hundred rounds of brownbear softpoint for the sole purpose of killing things that need to be killed hard and fast. Also have 50 rounds of hornady SST polymer tip because apparently it has only 14 inches of penetration which is slightly more suitable for home defense situations where i dont want my bullets swiss cheesing my house.

How do those compare to 8M3?
>>
>>34681519
why would you be fucked? FMJ kills a nigga just fine. It's not going to expand well like a hollowpoint, but it's just fine for stocking up on.
Do you think everyone in the Syrian or Ukrainian wars are fucked because they aren't using 8m3?
>>
>>34681556

I got it to plink with. Again i cant buy from SGammo so my purchase options are limited. I didnt even know 8M3 was a thing when i bought it. Ideally i wouldve bought softpoints but it was too damn expensive. I was already paying 20-25% more than SGammo prices and that adds up when its 3000 rounds just for plinking. Cool your tits lol, i have no illusions about the limitations of fmj
>>
>>34677222
If you guys want a comparison of these two different ammunition types.
Golden Tiger pros:
Slightly cheaper
More accurate
Still awesome hollow tip FMj for muh Tumbling
Sealed at case and primer along with lacquer cased for maximum long term storage capability

8m3 pros:
Ballisticly devastating fragmentation of the round
Still affordable
Sealed at case and primer but poly coated case
>>
>>34681578
>I got it to plink with

So what's the problem
?
>>
>>34681590

Not so much a "problem" in the sense that it does exactly what its intended to do. More so me being butthurt that i dont have 3000 rounds of ammo that is basically the same price but a gorrillian times more effective at raining on peoples parades. I suppose asking "am i fucked?" is a bit of hyperbole but this is a Cantonese competitive button fastening forum afterall.

I mean if youre stocking up for anything, wouldnt you too rather the better bullets?
>>
>>34681601
ok that's true. Your fmj is great for plinking or war though
>>
>>34681564
Most steel cased ammo used bi metal (Not copper) jacket so the soft points are hit or miss with expansion. Like fire a few in same test and some will expand proper and others wont expand at all.
The Hornady ammunition is produced to perform well and you pay for that.
From what Ive seen both the SST and 8m3 perform consistently, the SST expands and the 8m3 fragments but both are extremely effective and almost equal for the whole stoppin powah thing.
Realistically shot placement is the key thing we can measure each others dicks with better bullets, guns or caliber debate but training and skill out weight all of that.
>>
>>34677254
>>34677467
>>34677504
Wouldn't we still be getting the cheapo Wolf stuff though? Wolf is owned by a murican company, and though they do import a shitload of ammo made in Russia, they also import stuff from other ex-combloc countries. Sure nobody churns out the cheap steel case stuff like Russia at the moment, but maybe the US could try to get Ukraine to open or expand their ammo manufacturing to help their floundering economy.
>>
Gt box needs a staple

Seriously. Will
Not buy again for this minor issue, most likely. Fucking bullets spilling everywhere whenni can throw any ofher ammo box in my bag fine
>>
>>34677222
Well I have had a good handful of failures (typically fail to fire but a couple fail to feeds) with TulAmmo, never once had a failure of any kind with GT.

Might be a coincidence, but I normally always buy GT.

I've only shot small amounts of tulamo, seemed ok but never did any real tests with it out to my 400 yard steel.
Either way, GT is the only stuff I'll spend money on. I think it's worth every extra cent.
>lacquer coating superior to polymer for storage and rust prevention
>sealed from the elements at both bullet/primer ends for max possible storage life, plus the superior lacquer coating
>very consistent velocities for cheap steelcase(online tests I've seen)
>actually reaches advertised velocities from 16in barrels(look for MAC's chronograph test on youtube, wolf was clocking in 300fps slower) I can't speak for bear/tula etc off the top of my head, but I know I've seen tests on youtube on how they do on different barrel lengths
>large air pocket in front of bullet, and it yaws very fast and stays that way from what I've seen
>longer bullet than a lot of others, so yaw is more effective since more surface area
>bullet shape offers better ballistic coefficient, so it decelleratres more slowly in flight
>GT has very little to no muzzle flash from even a 16in barrel
>it's noticeably more accurate for me
>>34683117
Only bought 500rds of barnaul in my life, never touching the stuff again.
It was barely minute of paper through my scope at 100 yards. Especially frustrating since I was trying to sight it in and couldn't get anything consistent enough to be happy. IDK how many rounds I went through trying, finally moved back to my golden tiger stash and had it sighted within 20 mins.
Also I actually kill stuff from time to time, and GT yaws like crazy. It reminds me of my 545, but better because the bullet is bigger.
