What are your thoughts on surplus ammo from other countries? Is it best to stick with other ammo even if it's more expensive and possibly better quality?
If ammo is good, get the cheapest avail.
Not complicated.
Usually when I buy bulk surplus ammo I don't have problems. Stuff from the Czechs and other east europe combloc countries. Plus the crates are fun to have.

That must be some well preserved ammo
I've shot Turkish 7.9x57mm surplus from as far back as 1937 in my Mausers. Those S-Patrone specs get my tall girls all hot.

I have shot a mix of surplus rounds, from great, to meh it works, to guess I can pull the bullets. Really depends on what country it came from.
Unfortunately, most old stocks are gone or never coming into the country. What is coming into the country is either priced almost the same as new production or so low quality that you are better off avoiding it.
>inb4 the hundreds of warehouses full of ammo in Russia that Obama/Hillary/Trump won't let come in.
That shit is never coming in. And if it does I will buy a hat, just to eat it.

Myself, and others have had problems, shooting Chinese 7.62x54r out of some svt-40s

My friend told me that he just bought a few hundred rounds of the same ammo so I wonder if he will have similar issues.

These days it's usually not worth the hassle, at least to me. Easier, and just as cheap, to reload.

My brother of African descent. I have a batch from 1943 that shoots excellently in my Yugo Mauser. I can whack a quarter at 100 yards with that stuff, and I'm not even that great of a shot.
>some dude I knew sold it to me for 25 cents a round
>bought 1,050 rounds (15 bandoleers)
>offered me another 1,000 or so too, but I declined because I didn't want to be eating nothing but ramen for a few weeks
>still kicking myself in the ass for not taking it
Granted I go through ammo in my bolt actions pretty slow (still have 700+ rounds left when I bought it back in October), but stocking up never hurts.
