Is it already too far gone? It's near impossible to find a stock for these things too, luckily I found an 18 dollar eBay rear sight
>>34671686
You magnificent bastard. How much did you pay for it?
Just sand it down with very light grit sandpaper and hit it with a tung oil compound. Wash rinse repeat until you get the look you want.
>>34671763
$320 with 100 rounds of 6.5x55mm Swede, I had it for $280 but felt bad because A) I was late and B) the guy was selling it because money problems I think
I thought it over a bit but figured it was too difficult, put it up on Armslist for $400 (with no ammo.) I'm gonna buy a complete M96 with the money. Should I raise or lower?
Bump because I fell asleep last night
>>34671954
Fuck, Swede mausers are expansive in burgerland. Swedistan here, paid ~$60 for mine.
>>34674966
Jævlar. When did you do this purchase, exactly?
>>34671686
Looks to be in alright condition to my eyes. Needs a bit of surface work, and i'd get a gunsmith to check out the bolt surface clearance.
>>34675590
There are old mausers up the ass in Sweden. Some nice examples are pricy, but you'll often find them being pretty much given away (or a symbolic amount of money) from estate sales.
>>34675590
2008.
Had just gotten my license and my local gunsmith had gotten a barrel of 20 of them.
Good starter gun.
>>34675685
I'm going to get some wood guy to refinish the stock, purchasing an upper handguard too to refinish that.
One thing I'm having a problem with is the rear sight. I can't take this one off because the screws are all fucky >>34676091 and I'm worried I won't be able to put the actual one on as there's no place for it to attach.
YouTube is no help since there's basically no fucking info on this gun besides Ian's forgotten weapons on it. Does that little hole in this pic somehow attach a front sight or did mr bubba dremel it off and it's impossible now?
>>34676141
>Does that little hole in this pic somehow attach a front sight or did mr bubba dremel it off and it's impossible now?
Both front and rear sight bases will have a set screw to help align them in the proper position while they are soldered in place. The divot in the barrel is for that screw.

These guys have some spare parts for bolts, sights, screws and the like. Browse around, there might be stuff you need.

Thank you, you have no idea how relieving that is to hear
>>34676272
Thx. Jag talar inte svenska though (maybe just the first ten duolingo lessons) plus I'm going with liberty tree collectors
>>34676321
Got one of these for $35
>>34676355
For once bubba actually did a good job on the front of my gun, so I'm going to leave that part as is. If it's not possible to make it like-new (stock w/ disc costing hundreds for example) I'm fine with leaving some parts nigger rigged. Whatever looks best, we can call it a "semi-restoration"
>>34676160
Wait, no, someone else on another site told me something different
>Like any other Mauser of the era, the sight didn't mount directly to the receiver or barrel. There was actually a rear sight base.
>Think of a sleeve over the barrel. They look like this:
>There are PLENTY of sites and places to get rear sight parts from. The M/1894 was a common one, so it shouldn't be that hard to replace.
Is this what you meant or who's right?

Oh, thx. I'll see if I get better prices there. Also what do you think of this >>34676451

liberty tree has some parts
>>34676429
Just FYI, the example of the m/94 carbine you use as an "unaltered" example actually has a small section added to the barrel to comply with US import restrictions of the time. It should in fact be virtually flush with the stock endcap.
>>34676451
>Is this what you meant
Yes, that is the rear sight base. It is a sleeve that goes around the barrel and is soldered in place to keep from moving. The sight itself is a hinged leaf that sits atop the base.
>>34676494
yeah that's who I'm getting all my stuff from currently like a handguard/cleaning kit/dummy rounds, the sight stuff is on ebay though
>>34671686
It's not financially worth it to "restore" it, nor do I think it's possible to "restore" it with the shit bubba did to it. Just leave it as it is.
>>34671954
You overpaid. You don't want to spend much of anything for a bubba'd turd, especially for just a few bucks more you could have gotten an unmolested one.
>>34674966
M96s were like $200 just a few years ago.
>>34676550
that's true, I still prefer the wings flush though with just the sight sticking up. The enfield I bought has all that jazz going on and it doesn't really make for good aesthetics imo
How do I install the sleeve? Is it just sliding it on or do I need more screws?
>>34676559
After looking into it it's going to cost $100 to get it how I want, not great but not bad. And about $200 for a bubba'd 1894 is good.
>>34676551
Liberty tree seems to be somewhat more expensive than the stockholm one, though thats probably going to get eaten up by shipping
>>34676429
Can you still fix bayonet?
http://www.stockholmsvapenfabrik.se/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=220
Those M94 bayonets are quite expensive, almost 80 bux from Sweden.
>>34676606
nah, I'd have no idea how to do that. Plus I don't care too much for bayonets.
>>34676569
Every Mauser derivate I can think of has a rear sight sleeve base. Works fine. With the grading barrel you can't put it further in and the wood furniture keeps it in place anyway - that screw does little more than keep it in the right place. And it is enough.
>>34676679
got too complicated for me, but luckily I found this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Swedish-Mauser-Model-94-M94-Carbine-Rear-Sight-Assembly-Complete-/292145707239
I sent the guy a message asking to buy for $80 instead of a bid
>>34676679
if I'm putting on an upper handguard will I need a barrel band? And how do those work?
>>34676969
You should start by studying the schmatics. Numrich is an okay parts source btw.
http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacturers/Mauser-33384/Rifles-37349/94Swedish-39202/PartsList-34372.htm
As you can see on the schematics and the photo - its the navy version mind you - you need two barrel rings. The rear one slips directly on the barrel, the front one slips over the upper and lower wood.
>>34677160
I can't find any 94 barrel bands, do the 96 ones fit? And I only need the one that goes over both pieces of wood
