How many of you guys shoot air rifles on a regular basis? Although cartridge rifles have more stopping power, range etc, there is a lot going for the humble air rifle:

Very cheap ammunition. A tin of 500 pellets will only set you back 5-8 bucks. This makes it extremely easy to amass large amounts of ammunition for an emergency

Quiet; most air rifles that shoot below 1000 fps tend to be much more quiet and stealthy

Reasonable knockdown power; your average break barrel air rifle can take out a rabbit at 30 yards no problem. Hi-power air rifles can do even more and possibly deliver as much force as a 22lr

Easy to access; not as much licensing on air weapons as there are in other firearms

Versatility: Can be shot anywhere from your local range all the way down to a hallway if that's all the space you have to shoot with.

Let's see some of your toys guys
>>
Got one. Here in my country it's illegal though. But it's silent and in the middle of the night so I could probably sneak it out and shoot at targets without anyone noticing.
>>

Me and my father are thinking about buying one since we live in nogunz land (Brazil)

Sorta relevant, I bought a Winchester 1911 air pistol copy, Takes 12g C02 canisters and shoots bb's at around 400fps. All steel except magazine, grip safety and grips.

The most annoying thing about it is you need two fingers to take it off safe.

Still a fun little toy for shooting cans or what i prefer plastic spoons

>>
>>34668305
I am in Denmark. This place allows small caliber air rifles. Barely even able to kill small game, but it's still illegal as fuck.
>>
Would an air gun be a good option to kill rats in my back yard? Is it feasible for a new shooter to kill these fuckers while still being quiet?
>>
>>34668401
it will be louder than you think but far less than a firearm.

If you want to kill things (pests or harvest small game) you need more than a 20-40 dollar walmart buy.

Airguns are a great alternative to real firearms for plinking, training, and pest control. Crosman 1377 and modified 1322 here, got a steel target box set up in the basement.

Other than my vepr12 that I shoot weekly skeet with, my air rifles are my most used guns.
It's really fun on rimfire spinners with the gf, and costs next to nothing to shoot for hours.
When you shoot, it's pretty obvious that the 1000fps 22cal has a lot more power downrange than the 1300fps rated 177.

But really, if I wanted to remove squirrels from outside my house without neighbors knowing, would one of the integrally suppressed .22 air rifles work? Are any better than others?
>>
>>34669015
No you can still have an air rifle that shoots less than 12fpe muzzle energy without license, that is provided that you are 18 years and over. Most air rifle sales have to be done face to face in a gun shop with valid photo ID and proof of address. An air rifle with more than 12fpe muzzle energy needs to be held on a valid section 1 firearms certificate.

It's the best I can do.
>>
>>34672616
Ye some are definitely better than others, I got a Gamo wildcat whisper .22 and it's still loud.
>>
I know springers are the loudest

I have a springer, PCP and co2 and with a sound moderator the PCP and co2 are deadly quiet but the Springer still has a loud mechanical bang to it.

Get a pre charged pneumatic, they're the best because you can pump them by hand instead of getting tanks filled by stores which is a hassle.
>>
>>34667617
How easy are PCPs to charge with a compressor? Do they have standard quick link adaptors?
>>
>>34675834
PCPs are easy to silence because mechanically, most of the noise is coming from the jet blast of the pellet leaving the barrel, in the receiver, only a valve is opened when you pull the trigger so in order to silence a PCP, all you need is a moderator and they'll be really silent. The same goes for CO2 guns.

A spring gun is perceived to be noisier because other than the jet blast of the pellet leaving the barrel, you have the entire spring piston moving at high speeds in the compression chamber, which adds to noise. There's not much you can do to dampen the noise made by the spring piston unfortunately, and the noise heard when you fire a springer is even more audible because your cheek is so near to the receiver itself
>>
>>34675886
Yes, most PCPs will come with quick full adapters nowadays if purchased new. May not be true for 2nd hand guns
>>
>>34675886
And with an O2 bottle, you can top the gun in seconds. Different story with hand pumps

I've had an RWS48 in .22, "Magnum Springer" for about 10 years now, great gun but its been in and out of the shop. Kind of like a BMW.
Meanwhile, my Daisy Powerline 901 pumper just keeps plugging along.
Since air guns don't have a lot of power, the main thing is precision, so you'll need to invest in a halfway decent scope.
>>
>>34668075
in australia you need a gun license to own an air rifle
>>
>>34667617
I got one of these for 120 shekels
Can hit a quarter at 35 yards, I primarily use pointed rounds for target shooting and "destroyer" rounds for anything living
I scratch tallies in the side of it for kills. So far 4 birds and a rabbit
Birds explode and rabbits spaz out when they die
>>
>>34675886
A normal compressor might get a PCP started, but they typically won't go over about 250psi. I've not heard of any PCP able to properly fire a pellet at below about 800psi. Most PCPs are topped up to at least 2000psi and most go to e000psi. So unless you mean a custom shoe box compressor designed for airguns, or one of the few commercial models, you're going to be using a pump or a scuba tank with plain air (never oxygen, or explosion is going to be big).
>>

One is legal 12 ft-lbs (Britfag here) and the other is an FAC 36 ft-lbs (legal on a ticket)

Ideal for vermin control. Both have moderators and 4 x 50 scopes. On a good day and with the right ammo either can put pellets through the same hole at 25 yds.

O2? Are you not worried about flammable gas highly pressurized?
>>

Why would he be? You probably drive a car full of explosive vapors and own a phone with a battery that will literally go up in flames with the slightest scratch to the wrong spot. A pressurized container is the safest place an explosive can be.

YES. Another poor sap who was meme'd into buying a Vigilante here. I've even bedded the barrel and it still shoots like hot shit- my best guess is that the extraordinarily off-center crown is what's doing it. I'm lucky to get a 2" group at 13 feet... fucking piece of shit. Hell, it's hard to hit beetles a foot away from the muzzle... It's barely better than my Umarex XCP in terms of accuracy, and the XCP is better in terms of powerlet consumption anyways, though way less fun to shoot.
My current main airgun squeeze is a Walmart special Daisy 880S. It's freakishly accurate at 5 yards (maximum distance attainable in my apartment, gets 1/8" 10-shot groupings with Hornady Black Diamond) and next to free to keep fed. Pain to have to keep pumping though lol.

15 grajn .22 at 12 ft/lb will take a rabbit at 50 yards with a headshot.

Heck, you could take a rabbit with a 9.57 grain .177 at that range. Case in point:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vt_wpOyzYs

And I wouldn't shoot cheap pellets. Then again, when you shoot a $1500 setup, there's no point buying $5 pellets and swearing all day, when you can buy a tin of JSB exacts and hit pennies at 50 yards all day.

For kicks: my other baby. FWB 100 .177 SSP olympic match pistol. Hell of a fun gun to shoot.

Can anybody explain to me why the AA/CZ 200 target is this damn cheap? Most of the other PCP target rifles I'm looking at are 1300+ EUR. An entry level Feinwerkbau is 1100, and a Hammerli AR20 is 800 - but that's the cheapest I can find. Why is the CZ so damn cheap?

I'm just using it for general shooting instructions for kids, and the targets are 10x10mm at 10meters. Should I expect this ''cheapo'' airgun to hold up to that accuracy standard?

Currently using a Hammerli 450 & a Diana 75. Both rifles are hilariously accurate, capable of about 2-3mm center-to-center groups @ 10 meters off a rest. I'm hoping the CZ can take some of the load off those two old workhorses, since they're manual loading & charging. PCP would be a lot easier, especially with kids holding the guns.
>>
>>34685646
Hi Anon, the reason why it's relatively inexpensive is due to the fact that Air Arms have commissioned CZ in the Czech Republic to manufacture this particular model for them, obviously it's cheaper to make things in Central Europe than it is in the U.K. because U.K. Labour tends to be more costly. Plus, you don't have a regulator with this gun and as it comes in the box, it's single shot. If you wanted to make it multi shot, you would have to pay out of your own pocket for a 10 round retro fit mag which is about 100 bucks or so.
>>
>>34685646
And around the same price, you should be able to get a brand new AA S400 which is made in the U.K.
>>
>>34684647
The Theobens are quite rare guns nowadays, you don't see many in the U.K. and they get really rare in the states
>>
>>34684724

I'm not in the UK, I'm in mainland Europe. CZ labor isn't exactly cheaper, just go look at their regular guns. I don't care about it being single shot, I need a 10m target rifle with diopter and globe sight. The S400 doesn't come with those - except for the MPR10M model, which costs 999 EUR.

Both the regular S200 and the S200 target (which already comes with 10m target sights installed) cost 540 EUR, and a regular S400 costs about 695 EUR. For the price of that MPR10M, I could have a Hammerli or Feinwerkbau PCP gun, which are established German brands that I have experience with. Hell, I might even be able to fit my old diopters onto those since they'll probably have the same dovetail mounts.

I realize I'm going to get shitted upon here for asking but can anyone direct me towards a Glock 26 styled airgun? I'm trying to practice my draws for concealed carry and I want something that's sorta realistic if only in shape.

You might be better off looking at airsoft brands such as G&G etc. Or another viable option would be to use a blank pistol depending on whether that kind of stuff is available in your area. Best wishes

Yeah I looked into it, Glock is extremely draconian about airsoft models of their guns and do everything they can to stop the manufacture/sales of the things even though they don't actually make their own models that would compete with them or something. Classic.
