No /sgg/ soday? Let's change that.

I'm newguns, and I bought this Model 10 yesterday for 315, and took it trap shooting an hour later. Love this thing, and it helps that I have a knack for trap shooting. Anyone else got an older shotgun they're fond of?

There are two shootguns for sale in my area that have both caught my eye
Both double barrels, one an old colt double barrel from the 1870s, and the other a stoeger coach
I could afford either, the dilemma is do I want an
awesome wallhanger or a cowboy action gun?

No, I'm serious

A good double-barrel is always a good choice, especially if you plan on really using it for cowboy action. I kinda wish there were some neat doubles for sale around where I live, but to be fair I haven't looked around much.
>>
>>34665964
I would like to get into cowboy action but even after a shotty I'd still need twin revolvers and a pistol caliber lever action.
either way a double barrel would be awesome, and this particular specimen available to me is kind cheap and has had <50 rounds through it supposedly
ok you convinced me, at my earliest convenience I'm getting the stoeger
>>
>>34665998

Savage has a couple decent-looking options at the low end of the price spectrum. I think your best bet if you want *really* low prices are looking at old Remingtons/Winchesters, those can usually be found for a pretty light price and they're more often than not in good shape.

>>34666097
350 doesn't sound too bad actually, plus you can use the leftover cash to find some pistols/leverguns

Picked up pic related on Sunday, it's a Savage 720 from the late 1930s. $360 at Cabela's, immaculate barrel and no real wear issues though the bluing on the receiver is starting to brown. Went ahead and replaced the recoil spring since it had set at 7", the action spring was still over 14" so I left it. Anyone have any idea why the action spring would be fine even though the recoil spring was trashed?

I prefer a traditional stock because I'm used to shooting clays and I'm a lot faster with them. One downside to a traditional stock is that you will have to get the stock fitted to you. This shouldn't really matter for a cheap pump action you're just plinking, hunting and defending yourself with though.

I really want a 12 gauge that I can get wood furniture for, can mount a bayonet, and can handle longer shells. Bonus points for slamfire. I like 1897s, but they're pricey.
>>
>>34669510

Not really. I got one for $200 the other week. Granted it wasn't pumping very well when I got it (mostly needed cleaning plus I have to replace the carrier pin because someone used a rivet as a replacement decades ago) but it is shooting right now.

But it's a 1906 takedown and it's kind of wonky since it's wore. It was an old farm gun from an old guy's estate. I'm half-tempted to tacticool it and make a wood pistol grip and add a VFG to the pump.

I got one of the IAC (read: Norinco) 97 repros ("old west" version) a couple years ago and had a gunsmith stick on a repro heat shield... The gunsmith couldn't get it on quite right so the sight bead is canted pretty badly. I also had a bitch of a time working the bayonet on so it would fit, and now it jiggles. Seems to work fine other than that, though.
If you go repro, get one that's a trench from the start.

need some help from someone that isn't a nefag to shotguns like me
can you guys help me figure out wtf this is
>picrelated

was cleaning a new cheap 12ga, rough machining, but otherwise all good where needs to be.
went to replace cheap follower with a more reliable one and see this in the mag tube
>the picture is taken upside down through the loading gate
basically this weird clearly raised spot and a smaller one on the other side of this whiteish deposit. tried clp and nylon brush on it and it doesn't seem to be just some residue that's easy to wipe off.

I'm not too worried but just want to figure out wtf it is. it's clearly not rust, but is visibly raised. don't think it will impede feeding, but seeing how the rest of the mag tube is nice and shiny, I would want to remove it if possible and keep it smooth throughout

TL;DR: weird slightly raised whiteish staining/buildup in new shotgun mag-tube towards the loading gate side -- what is and how to get rid of plz

does it eject shells as far as ithaca?

I love my ithacas
Here is a little game to play with them
>you and you buddy stand about 5 yards apart.
>you shoot a round into the ground or air
>then you eject your shell with the action pointed up up in the air, angled away from you. Ithacas can eject the rounds at least 15 feet.
>your buddy then shoots the ejected shell out of the air
>then he ejects his shell the same way and you shoot his out of the air.

scale can be alot things but is usually oxidized iron that forms when a piece of metal is cooling off.

it could be anything to be honest.

I would use a brass brushes, but scotch-bright is easier to get and it shouldn't take off to much bluing...plus its the mag tube so who cares what the inside looks like.

Well that's one way, I suppose.
Molot stakes the grip screw at the factory.
The staking on mine was not perfect, so I just muscled mine out.
They are Izhevsk Masters, but mine are much lighter. Although I'm digging the dark ones on yours.
This is a much better pic of the color of mine, not from my shit cellphone.
Nice to know about the brake, I was thinking about one of them, but I like the 3 choke set even if I use the modified more than the others.
I know there are chokes that are threaded to be able to use a brake/muzzle device but they seem like a pain, having to time the choke and brake.

Is yours a fixed stock or folder?
I'm guessing fixed from that first pic.

thanks, will gradually try harder and harder scrubbing, should I use some solution to complement the scrubbing, like ballistol, hoppes or household cleaner?

I looked it up and hope it's not the mill scale sort that you need muriatic acid to remove, because I'm not going to go to that degree and I would probably do more damage trying to remove it in that spot to the rest of the shotgun, than good

does it have potential to do damage to the firearm in the future if I can't remove it?

If I can find one, I will. However, finding a new 590 will be easier where I live.

>A-5 is underappreciated
True, but my Savage is the second A-5 in my family. My grandfather owns a Belgian-made Browning Light 20, I'm just following the legacy apparently. I bought it for skeet shooting, actually did some research before buying instead of grabbing what looked like it would work well - last time I did that I walked out of Cabela's with a CZ 620 Big Game (Turkish tacticool bullshit with a removable rifled extended choke) with a 19" barrel and a rail completely blocking my sight picture.
