I had my M1 out yesterday and there was a brass rat at the range so I was picking up my brass as I shot (instead of right before I left). What I noticed was that the brass was really hot to the touch. Like skin melting hot.
How hot should brass be?

It's going to absorb a lot of heat, dude. That's normal.
It's also why I suggest wearing a brimmed hat if you wear glasses. Having a spent shell land between them and your temple is not a fun time. I also always recommend women not wear low-cut shirts when shooting, lest one falls between their breasts.
Well it has (had) an explosion in it so it should be pretty fucking hot.
Why is this even a question?

the brass was REALLY fucking hot.
More so than any other gun I've dealt with

.30-06 has a lot of powder in it. If you aren't bending your op rod you're fine.

Why are brass bums still a thing? Ammo is well below panic prices now. Do they just enjoy giving up their dignity? It's just like eating the scraps from someone's plate.

I have a mark on my neck that's nearly healed from a few weeks ago- was playing with a friend's SCAR-17 and, being left handed, had a casing eject across me and this one in particular landed in the folds of my clothing against my skin and took ten seconds to fish out.
Brass from a decent sized rifle round gets pretty hot man

Well it's a pretty big casing with a lot of powder in it so I would hope so.

Yeah man hot brass will burn you if you try and pick it up right away. Are you using regular M2 ball?

It's only practical to load ammo for your M1, surplus is dried up and the ammo made for it is usually over a dollar a round.

My hot load falls on their breasts all the time, they don't seem to mind.
