My 7.62x39 AK after a select fire conversion, cerakote job in tan or multicam, a new chrome lined barrel, a suppressor I can quickly slap on, the grip replaced with a good MOE grip, and a PRS stock instead of the thumbhole. Fuck you I'm taking a spear too as one of my blades, no less than 7 foot long with the shaft at least 5'8". Something that can slice as well as stab deeply. A naginata/glaive-like thing with a boar spear style cross-bar, a scabbard that can simply be swung off, robust enough blade to use for bushwhacking and chopping, and can be broken down into two equal length halves if needed. Just say this replaces the axe and one knife.

Considering I'm descended from pioneers and got a couple of their diaries to base my strategy off of, I'd probably do a lot of prep work and stop by Baltimore and see if I can hire out some local help (either European or Native as most are rather friendly) and grab a hold of some extra supplies with some handy work, trading, and bartering such as extra alcohol and soap for antiseptic, furs for warmth, black powder and tools for reloading, and maybe some cooking supplies. Out in the wild, there are no gun repair kits. It'd last longer, be easier to clean, and be far more likely to be reliable in any of the weather conditions you'd encounter. Able to take most large game and hostile indians at long to mid range, and can even reload cartridges with black powder if needed by reclaiming lead from used rounds or extra stock bartered from european settlers or local indians. Maybe be a bit of a chemist and see if I can acquire some mercury and nitric acid to make some crude mercury fulminate for the primers.

Rifle: Probably something simple and straightforward in an intermediate caliber, like an AR-15. I'll say a Galil ARM in 5.56 for now, because I've got a fucking fetish for that gun.

Pistol: Either a revolver in .357 or .44 magnum, or an automatic chambered in one of the more powerful rounds, like 10mm or .357 Sig. The way I see it, the pistol would probably be the gun I reach for if I'm surprised by a pear or something, so I want something that can kill big critters reliably.

As stated before, either the Oregon or California Trail. Hit the Rockies a tad north near Wyoming, head through the main pass, and either decide to go through the deserts of northern Nevada and East California or the rainy mountains of Idaho and Oregon and getting awfully close to some of the more infamous Native American tribe territories, like the Blackfoot and Crow.

Considering there's no actual trails and it starts getting into some very uneven and rocky terrain once you hit South Pass, you may need to ditch the wagon if you built one and go straight for horseback. Best bet is to just simply find the Snake River and follow it to the ocean.
