SMLE is a good rifle. In fact, it's a great rifle. Don't get that one, though, because not only is it over priced it's damaged.

For over 1k USD you'd want something special, or in exceptional condition. Lithgow models, Holland and Holland conversions, very early serials, anything experimental or limited run.

About 17 million of them were made. It is not a rare weapon. It's a damn good one, and should be in any bolt action collection, but it's really worth looking elsewhere because they aren't going extinct any time in the next thousand years.

You can write off other things against it.

It varies from country to country, state by state but there are lots of small businesses around the world that keep a lot of old junk on the books to write off against their income and cheat tax. The IRS like this about as much as the ATF like your dog, but it is still possible in very limited and narrow instances. This may be one of them.

I made a thread about it, about a month ago. They had like 14 K98ks, and like 5 24/47s. I paid 240 after taxes for mine. Might sell it though cos I already have another one.
